Escuchame, conozco ese sentimiento, hay tantos juegos por jugar y salen decenas de lanzamientos excelentes cada mes que es muy dificil mantenerse al tanto de todos los juegos y como afectan esa corriente llamada la historia del videojuego, esa brecha se hace mas larga cuando te das cuenta que aun no has jugado y crees que no podras jugar nunca a esos juegos que han moldeado de una u otra forma las practicas en el sector de los videojuegos, pero yo estoy aqui para decirte que hay una esperanza, hay una tecnica milenaria que los antiguos gamers han estado usando para mantener viva la esencia de los clasicos y que a pesar de ser un tema incomodo en las juntas de desarrolladores se ha convertido en la mejor manera de preservar algunos de los videojuegos mas iconicos del medio, por supuesto hablo de la emulacion.
Los inicios de la emulacion datan desde la propia creacion del videojuego, muchos desarrolladores independientes con los años han logrado captar el codigo y la esencia de titulos como Sonic, Mario Bros o Donkey Kong para realizar sus propias versiones en sistemas en donde no llegaban estos juegos, pero se podria decir que el termino se popularizo con los años y con la perdida de muchos de estos titulos clasicos que usaban cartuchos y consolas que ya tienen decadas de haber sido descontinuadas, los usuarios en especial de pc han creado con los años diversos programas con los que revivir nuevamente estos juegos y aunque no es toda la experiencia completa (controles, resolucion etc) si que abre la puerta a que estos clasicos se preserven en la mente de los jugadores.
¿Que podemos emular hoy?
Aunque esta lista se va haciendo cada vez mas grande con el avance de la tecnologia podemos decir que todo lo que sea a partir de 2005 hacia atras es en teoria aceptable para emular en una pc de recursos medios, muchos de los emuladores que voy a poner en esta lista necesitan a veces del doble de potencia de procesador para ejecutarse y aunque a veces esto puede ser una desventaja creo que para los titulos de los 80s y 90s no tendremos ningun problema ejecutando algunos de los juegos que tienen estas consolas.
Megadrive de Sega: GENS
Este es uno de los primeros emuladores que logre instalar en mi pc hace ya bastante tiempo cuando tenia una laptop de un par de GB de RAM, los juegos de la Megadrive son bastante ligeros y hasta podria decir que muchos de ellos son mejores en cuanto a paleta de colores o rendimiento si los comparamos con la consola de esa epoca de Nintendo, con este emulador fue que empece a recorrer algunos de los clasicos como Sonic The Hedgehog y toda la saga del erizo. Es un emulador con un muy buen rendimiento y que podemos escalar bastante la resolucion en varios de los juegos que juguemos, para mi el mejor de lejos.
Nintendo Entertaiment System (NES): UberNES o FCEUX Emulator
Ambos emuladores son excelentes para jugar a una de las consolas mas iconicas de todos los tiempos, la NES tiene fama de tener juegos que son bastante faciles de emular al ser tan reconocidos por tanta gente asi que probablemente la mayor parte del catalogo de esta consola y quiza de la Super Nintendo la puedas hasta jugar desde el navegador en alguna pagina perdida en la web, juegos como Mario Bros, The Legend Of Zelda o Metroid son solo algunos de los titulos por las que la NES es reconocida no solo como una pionera en la industria sino tambien como LA CONSOLA que inicio todo el boom de los videojuegos, esta es una de las consolas mas faciles de emular en mi opinion.
Game Boy, Color y Advance: VisualBoyAdvance
Este es uno de mis favoritos porque aparte de ser uno de los que puedes ejecutar desde la PC tambien lo he podido usar para ejecutar juegos de la Game Boy y Game Boy Advance desde mi Wii, la verdad muchos de los emuladores que estoy compartiendo aca se podrian ejecutar en una consola cercana a la tercera generacion como la Wii U o incluso ciertas versiones de Xbox pero ya hablando un poco de este emulador no he tenido problemas ejecutandolo en mi computadora pero yo seria precabido con su version en Wii ya que algunos juegos (no todos) puedes llegar a experimentar algo de lag en algunos casos. Aun asi sigue siendo una muy buena oportunidad de volver a convertirte en un maestro pokemon.
La emulación es la forma de adulación más sincera°
Nintendo 64: Proyect64 y Mupen64
Aqui tengo dos recomendaciones que van a variar en algunos aspectos, el Mupen64 es el emulador ideal si quieres velocidad y estabilidad en la ejecucion de los juegos, es un emulador muy sencillo que no tiene demasiadas opciones pero que no me ha dado problema alguno salgo con la ejecucion de algunos archivos de juegos un poco mas raros, por otro lado el Proyect64 es el peso pesado de la emulacion de Nintendo 64 teniendo varias opciones de resolucion, para jugar en pantalla completa y modificar algunas especificaciones de los juegos acorde a lo que pueda correr tu pc asi como una mayor personalizacion en cuanto a controles o diseño.
Primera Xbox: CXBX-Reloaded
La consola de 2001 (y en general las consolas de Microsoft) tienen la fama de ser una de las mas dificiles de emular, quiza porque no se ha desarrollado demasiado sus emuladores a comparacion de otras consolas ya que la mayoria de su catalogo esta en PC y ademas se puede comprar un control de Xbox para jugarlo asi que no te pierdes demasiado, de todas formas si aun quieres echar un vistazo hacia atras y revivir a esta vieja amiga te recomiendo CXBX que es quiza el emulador mas avanzado para este tipo de consola, por lo que he visto en gameplays es bastante suave y optimizado asi que no tendras problema.
Esas son solo algunas de las consolas y sus emuladores, quiero hacer una serie de post sobre todo el arte de la emulacion asi que por eso solo he cubierto algunas consolas basicas que seguramente muchos han querido revivir, en el proximo post estare comentando un poco mas sobre como usar bien algunos de estos programas y quiza tambien de algunos tips secretos para que tu experiencia sea lo mas limpia posible con estos programas.

Listen to me, I know that feeling, there are so many games to play and dozens of great releases coming out every month that it's very hard to keep up with all the games and how they affect that stream called the history of gaming, that gap gets longer when you realize you haven't played yet and you think you will never get to play those games that have shaped in one way or another the practices in the gaming industry, but I am here to tell you that there is a hope, there is a millenary technique that old gamers have been using to keep alive the essence of the classics and that despite being an uncomfortable topic in the boards of developers has become the best way to preserve some of the most iconic video games of the medium, of course I speak of emulation.
The beginnings of emulation date from the very creation of the video game, many independent developers over the years have managed to capture the code and the essence of titles like Sonic, Mario Bros or Donkey Kong to make their own versions on systems where these games did not reach, but you could say that the term became popular over the years and with the loss of many of these classic titles that used cartridges and consoles that already have decades of having been discontinued, especially pc users have created over the years various programs with which to revive these games again and although it is not the full experience (controls, resolution etc) if it opens the door to these classics are preserved in the minds of players.
What can we emulate today?
Although this list is getting bigger and bigger with the advancement of technology we can say that everything from 2005 onwards is theoretically acceptable to emulate on a pc of average resources, many of the emulators that I will put on this list sometimes need twice the processor power to run and although sometimes this can be a disadvantage I think that for the titles of the 80s and 90s we will not have any problem running some of the games that have these consoles.
Megadrive by Sega: GENS
This is one of the first emulators that I managed to install on my pc quite some time ago when I had a laptop with a couple of GB of RAM, Megadrive games are quite light and I could even say that many of them are better in terms of color palette or performance when compared to the console of that time of Nintendo, with this emulator was that I started to go through some of the classics like Sonic The Hedgehog and the whole saga of the hedgehog. It is an emulator with a very good performance and we can scale quite the resolution in several of the games we play, for me the best.
Nintendo Entertaiment System (NES): UberNES or FCEUX Emulator
Both emulators are excellent for playing one of the most iconic consoles of all time, the NES has a reputation for having games that are quite easy to emulate as they are so well known by so many people so probably most of the catalog of this console and perhaps the Super Nintendo you can even play from the browser on some lost page on the web, games like Mario Bros, The Legend Of Zelda or Metroid are just some of the titles for which the NES is recognized not only as a pioneer in the industry but also as THE CONSOLE that started the whole video game boom, this is one of the easiest consoles to emulate in my opinion.
Game Boy, Color and Advance: VisualBoyAdvance
This is one of my favorites because apart from being one of those that you can run from the PC I have also been able to use it to run Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games from my Wii, the truth many of the emulators that I am sharing here could run on a console close to the third generation as the Wii U or even certain versions of Xbox but speaking a little of this emulator I have not had problems running it on my computer but I would be cautious with its version on Wii as some games (not all) you can get to experience some lag in some cases. Still it is a very good opportunity to become a pokemon master again.
Emulation is the sincerest form of flattery°.
Nintendo 64: Proyect64 and Mupen64
Here I have two recommendations that will vary in some aspects, the Mupen64 is the ideal emulator if you want speed and stability in the execution of the games, is a very simple emulator that does not have too many options but that has not given me any problem with the execution of some game files a little rarer, on the other hand Project64 is the heavyweight of the Nintendo 64 emulation having several resolution options, to play in full screen and modify some specifications of the games according to what your pc can run as well as a greater customization in terms of controls or design.
First Xbox: CXBX-Reloaded
The 2001 console (and in general Microsoft consoles) have the reputation of being one of the most difficult to emulate, perhaps because it has not been developed too much emulators compared to other consoles as most of its catalog is on PC and also you can buy an Xbox controller to play it so you do not miss too much, Anyway if you still want to take a look back and revive this old friend I recommend CXBX which is perhaps the most advanced emulator for this type of console, from what I've seen in gameplays is quite smooth and optimized so you will have no problem.
Those are just some of the consoles and their emulators, I want to make a series of post about the whole art of emulation so that's why I have only covered some basic consoles that surely many have wanted to revive, in the next post I will be commenting a little more about how to use some of these programs well and maybe also some secret tips to make your experience as clean as possible with these programs.
