Cowboys + Vampires = Evil West 🤔

Evil West is a third-person action-adventure game developed by Flying Wild Hog (creators of Shadow Warrior) and published by Focus Home Interactive. Set in a dark, supernatural version of the Wild West, the game offers an intriguing blend of Western themes and supernatural elements. Players assume the role of Jesse Rentier, a lone gunman tasked with eliminating hordes of monsters and beasts that have overrun the land. With its immersive world, intense combat, and slick visuals, Evil West delivers an exciting and unique linear gaming experience.

The game features a variety of weapons and abilities that players can utilize to take down the monstrous enemies they encounter. From traditional firearms like revolvers, rifles, and shotguns to more mystical weapons imbued with supernatural powers, such as the ultra-powerful electrical gauntlet that leaves vamps in shock and awe. Additionally, Jesse can harness dark magic and supernatural abilities, allowing for creative and strategic approaches to combat scenarios. Evil West offers a wide range of options for players to experiment with and it's up to you which abilities and weapons you want to rely on most.

One of the standout aspects of Evil West is its atmospheric setting. The game combines the rugged landscapes of the Wild West with eerie, supernatural elements. From desolate towns and dusty canyons to haunted forests and ancient, cursed ruins, Evil West presents a visually stunning and captivating world for players to explore. With its intriguing storyline, intense combat mechanics, and immersive setting, Evil West looks to be a promising addition to the action-adventure genre.

If I had to describe what the combat is like, I would advise you to think of God of War and God of War Ragnarok. It feels very similar to those games, but also has several aspects of the gameplay that make Evil West stand out as its own thing.

One other major bonus for this game is the fact that you can play all of it in co-op with a friend. The only negative about that is that progress only counts for the host. It's good if you have somebody who just wants to play every once in a while and never plans to finish the game. If you are like me though, you will always want to be the host so that your game progresses.

Although this game does have some solid graphics, it doesn't run as well as I was hoping it would. The high framerate modes on PS5 cause the resolution to stoop extremely low to a level that I felt to be unplayable. Thankfully, the 4K mode does look great and feels good to play even at only 30 fps.

Let's go ahead and get into my first impressions of Evil West. I've wanted to play this game for a long time and the day has finally come.
