In today's video, watch my live reaction to the Need for Speed Unbound reveal trailer. I will be discussing every detail that we know about the game so far. I will be going over the full car list and giving my thoughts about this wild new take on NFS.
Long Live NFS 🏆🛞
The new Need For Speed game has finally been revealed and is coming sooner than we expected. NFS Unbound releases on Friday, December 2, 2022. This will be the first truly next-gen NFS game, as it will only be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The rumors have turned out to be true, the style of this game is something we haven't seen before and it seems like a great change. The visuals showcase realistic cars and an open world called Lakeshore mixed with graffiti-styled animations and characters that look straight out of an anime. It's pretty wild to witness, but if you're a big fan of color then you're sure to be pleased with the art direction.
The game will also feature famous Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky as a character in the story. He will also be involved with the soundtrack for the game, which is surely going to be one of the best music for a game in years.
Exact details on Lord Flacko's involvement in the story are still a bit vague. In the trailer, we see him challenging the player to a pink slip race. One can assume that he will be making regular appearances throughout the single-player experience.
As for multiplayer, no details about that have spilled yet. Most modern NFS games include some sort of multiplayer game modes though. It could be an open-world setup, but it also might just be an assortment of different party modes. I think we can agree that they really shouldn't make this an always-online game, but we will have to wait and see.
Cops are back in Unbound too. They have yet to confirm if you will be able to play as the police. More than likely you will be tasked with avoiding getting arrested and impounded for illegal street racing. Love it or hate it, you will be forced to deal with the law.
The full list of cars that will be available at launch has already been unveiled too. There is a total of 143 unique cars. It is a pretty solid list featuring many new rides such as the C8 Corvette and Nissan Z. The only noticeable exclusions that stuck out to me were Audi and Toyota, neither of which has a car in the game yet. You can find the entire list here.
The fact that this game is not going to be available on last-gen consoles like the PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch actually seems like a good thing. We've watched games such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Gran Turismo 7 get held back in some ways by trying to release on both generations of consoles. This will be NFS's first chance to fully unleash the power of their creativity. I don't know about you, but it has me super hyped!
The game is being developed by Criterion and published by EA. These devs are responsible for other racing games such as NFS Heat, NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered, NFS Most Wanted (2012), and Burnout Paradise/Revenge/Takedown. They have quite a bit of experience creating some of the best arcade-style racing games to ever exist.
The game is available for preorder now. You can find more information at https://www.ea.com/games/need-for-speed/need-for-speed-unbound
