Creepy, cinematic, and gorgeous 🧟‍♂️🪐👨🏻‍🚀

If you know anything about my gaming history, I tend to avoid horror games. This is weird because I love horror movies. Games are just much more stressful because I feel like I'm actually in them when I play. Movies just feel like I'm watching something. I am almost certain I'll never play horror VR in my life.

When The Callisto Protocol was released at the end of 2022, I saw a lot about it, but was not tempted to play. It was compared to Dead Space, which again is a game I never took the time to play despite hearing a lot of great things about it.

The Callisto Protocol is a creepy sci-fi horror game that stars famous actor Josh Duhamel as the main character. I like it when games include familiar faces like this. Plus you can bet that the voice acting will be good usually and I can confirm that in The Callisto Protocol, it is.

The reason I'm randomly playing this game towards the end of 2023, almost a year after the game originally released, is because it got added to my library for free. This was the headliner game for the PS Plus Essential lineup during the month of October 2023. It is the perfect type of game for the month of Halloween. I had a feeling we'd get something horror-related and we thankfully did.

I was very impressed with the graphics and cinematics in this game. I couldn't imagine skipping any of the very well-done cutscenes. I even decided to play this in resolution mode rather than my typical choice of performance mode. Adding in the ray tracing with 4K visuals makes for some spectacular visuals.

The gameplay was pretty fun from what I've experienced so far too. It has a pretty basic melee combat system where you dodge and just bash the enemy's head in over and over. I can see that getting repetitive, but the story would make it worthwhile I think.
