Yo, it's me, the guy who isn't a moldy corpse and keeps coming back to review video games for digital currency tokens because he's got an addiction. I'm back today to go over the newest entry to a series I'm sure most of anyone into gaming is familiar with, at least if you aren't a 9 year old obsessed with Minecraft, anyways. It's called Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the 16th (Yes, that's right, apparently they've made 16 fucking entries into this series somehow) game released around the titular characters. There has been a shit ton of hype for this game on social media platforms, and, I'm sure it's brought us an entire new generation of furries. So, I'll have to dock some points for that, I suppose. However, the real question is this: Can you get a wet spot in your underwear even if you aren't a furry over this game?
And, the answer is abso-fuckin-lutely.

The first thing I have to say about this game is it is honestly one of the best looking games I have ever played. I genuinely would have never thought the first real next gen gaming experience I would have would be with Ratchet and Clank, but, fuck. This game is absolutely stunning to look at. The ray tracing really does take shit up a notch, where I basically reenacting that awooga gif of a cartoon wolf. You know, if he also had a raging erection at the same time. I honestly dunno what else to say about the graphics, beyond they're absolutely beautiful and a huge highlight of the game. There's not a single console game that can compete in terms of looks with it, and, even on PC I'm not sure what could give it a run for its money.
The visuals are great in pretty much everyway as well. The cut scenes are action packed, making you feel like you're just watching a short CGI film or something. The character designs are solid, the universe design and world designs are fantastic. Pretty much everything is just great and looks amazing in the visuals. There is so much vibrant color and cool colorful effects in this game, it just feels like a breathe of fresh air. It feels like most games that have dropped in recent times have just been very dull or gritty with the colors, and this game is the total opposite instead using a bold, bright color palette. Lots of phosphorous pinks, chemical blues, toxic greens, just awesome color out the ass without making you feel like you're drowning in it.

Beyond the amazing visuals, the gameplay is pretty god damn solid as well. The weapons you get through the game are all super fun, and all the gameplay mechanics are kind of the same as what we got in the 2016 Ratchet and Clank reboot. Which is good, because that games gameplay was fucking great. The movement is smooth and fluid, and everything flows well. Load times are non existent and pretty much seamless throughout. Going from cut scene to gameplay or vice versa is transition-less and flows perfectly, if you die and respawn it just happens immediately without any kind of black screen or anything. I've genuinely never thought I'd see the day where we would get games that literally never have to load. This feature is genuinely huge, and I think it is a game changer. I have to give a big over the pants handjob to insomniac games on what they've done here, it's so impressive.
I do have some issues with the game though. Mainly due to the lack of a variety of enemy types. You never really have to think about how you're going to fight anyone, meaning it doesn't matter what type of play style you go for because nothing will change up for you, because the game doesn't challenge you in that way. There are only around 5 enemy types for you to fight throughout the game, and the only one that requires you to not just shoot with the same gun is a shield type, and after you deal with that it all just goes back to being a bullet sponge. It's not bad exactly, but, I just wish there was more there that required all of your attention, since you just kinda turn your brain off for combat.

Now, having said that, the enemies do have pretty good AI. Meaning the game can be challenging still and it can feel rewarding once you clear out a wave that spawns. But, once you clear that wave and get to one of the mini boss fights, they're just underwhelming as fuck. It's the same 3 bosses every time, so after your first encounter with each type you've seen it all. You'll know exactly what to expect every time, and exactly what to do every time. It just feels like they said fuck it, we need extra time to watch girls do farting ASMR on Twitch. Just reuse the same assets here and move on. I find that very lazy, and definitely the biggest issue I've had with the game which sucks, since I feel like it wouldn't have been that much harder to do more variety with them.
The game has a pretty good narrative, that does tug on your nustack with a bit of nostalgia and throwback stuff sometimes. But, it introduces a ton of new stuff and new characters to get attached to. And, a lot of the characters have a good amount of personality to them that sets them apart and makes them memorable enough. They're all pretty fun, as is the writing for the dialogue and narrative of the game. Nothing that'll make you cry and twist your nipples, but enough to be very entertaining. If you do some side quests and a bit of grinding while running through the narrative, you can expect to clear the game in about 10-12 hours which is a pretty normal game length these days. But, thankfully, this game has some replay value to it to add on more bang for your buck. As there is a challenge mode that will unlock once you do beat it, where you can upgrade your guns in some fun ways that make them more fun to use. And, with the gameplay being as fun as it is it's definitely worth putting some time into.

Overall, I highly recommend this game for everyone to play. I think this game sets the gold standard for what we should be expecting when it comes to next gen games, in terms of looks and quality. It's absolutely gorgeous, it's fun as hell to play, it has good combat and entertaining characters with a fun story. The haptic feedback system for the controller worked really well with this game and added in with the enjoyment for me, and there's not really anything I can say is bad about this game beyond the lack of enemy variety. I never found a moment of being bored where I just wanted it to end. This is a great game, and I would say it is well worth the $70 it cost. (Though, that was an easier pill to swallow for me since I had a $25 gift card laying around that I needed to use.)
So, that'll do it. Until next time you succulent slutterbutts.
Later!
