Mage and Monsters is a game about raising an army to fights hordes of enemies and you use your magic abilities to help shift the tide of battle in your favor.
Pretty Simple aye? Yes. it is. ...in my opinion.š
And it's also cheap.
Gameplay Breakdown

Choosing a mage is the same as choosing your first ability and perk.
Procellus has access to the [Chain Lighting] spell and 6% cooldown reduction to all spells.

My favorite is Sinon, because he starts +70 gold.
and the Spell [Impending Doom] is really good. makes one of your units run towards the enemy.
then it explodes, dealing tons of damage.

After you press [Next], you get to pick your starting units.
The first thing you will notice is probably the gold, choosing 8 archers will only net you a bonus of 3 gold while choosing the 4 dwarven warrior will net us a bonus of 26 gold. Of course we are going to choose 4 dwarven warriors.

Before we proceed. I would just like to point out that you can change the Combat Speed in the [Options].

I definitely did use [Impending Doom] to one of my dwarves to kamikaze on those frog people.

After every encounter you get rewarded with an [Upgrade]. I decided to choose the +6 archers as it also gives +19 gold.

After choosing an upgrade you are presented with this screen.
It shows the summary of your army and its composition.
The [Shop] on the right is where you buy stuff with your gold.
The first row increases the amount of unit's you can field.
The second row lets you roll an [Upgrade].
The third row unlocks tier 2 spells that you can acquire in [Upgrades].
The fourth row unlocks Tier 2 units that you can acquire in [Upgrade]. (removes tier 1 units.)
The fifth row increases the amount of units per [Upgrade].
The sixth row increases the damage of all your melee units by a percentile.

Now we proceed to the second page of the [Shop].
The first row increases the damage of all your ranged units by a percentile.
The second row increases the health of all your units.
The third row increases the damage of your spells by a percentile.
The fourth row reduces the cooldown of your spells by a percentile.
The fifth row increases the choices in the [Upgrade] menu by 1.

On the right side of the screen you can see a series of stacked coins. you get bonus gold depending on how much gold you hoard.
And finally at the bottom of the screen you can see the next round's invading horde's composition.

I decided to unlock Tier 2 units.

Even with this pixel art, I can really see the the Priest has a smug look on her face.

Fight! Fight! Fight!

Uhhhh...

I lost. I lost because I didn't spend enough.
Now when you get defeated you are rewarded with [Blood Shards].

You can spend [Blood Shards] to unlock mages and spend boons in the [Power Up] Menu.

Here you have a maximum of 1200 [Blood Shards] to spend on bonuses.

Fast forward and we are back to the start, Boom! [Impending Doom] spell is nice.

This time I'm spending for my army.

Even went to get tier 3 units early, Gladiators are really good at dealing damage.

Knights are really good at taking damage with their ability reduced incoming range damage.

The same round that I lost earlier.

Unlocked Tier 4 units.

Level 21. fighting a dragon.

And finally Tier 5 units. this is the last and the strongest tier of units available.

Level 30, four Dragons. last level of the normal levels.

beating level 30 starts the endgame levels, there are 9 endgames levels. you also have to spend all your gold now.

I have maxed out Melee and Range Summon Spells, 18 rock throwing Cyclopes and a number of tier 5 meat shields.

It gets really chaotic really fast.

Once you defeat the 9 endgame levels, you are then allowed to increase the difficulty, and once you beat that, you unlock the next level of difficulty.
When I rate things, I always use a three-point system.
1 for Bad
2 for Okay
3 for Great
I must point out that I have very low standards and is easily impressed.
so it's very hard for me to give a score of 1,
and very easy for me to give a score of 3.
Mage & Monsters. 2022. I give it a score of 3/3. It's great.
The Good.
- Cheap.
- Mindless Fun.
- Good Music and SFX.
- Mages are unique from each other.
- You can win while only using tier 1 units.
- Game Speed Modifier.
- as Auto-battlers go, fun to watch.
The Bad.
- The higher difficulties are ridiculous.
- The levels are static and there's no way to mix them up.
The Neutral.
- Tier 4 units are undesirable.
What's up! Nowadays I have been pretty busy, at my spare time I have been playing Battletech, I really like it. Mechs and Turn Based Combat, it's nice. I'm planning on making a vid about HDMI Capture Device as I have my friend's PS4 here with me. He pawned it to me due to a Covid-19 emergency years back, and since then it has been sucking up dust. So I want to atleast use it.
Oh. and this game is gifted to by my buddy @akumagai. Thanks bro!
Thank you for reading.
Cheers!
