Steam, link to the game.
Let me start by saying that I do not recommend anyone buying this game in 2022.
- it only supports d-input gamepads.
- 30 FPS.
- There are a lot of cars to choose from but I can count with one hand on which cars are viable.
- Throttle and brake, no handbrake. arcade as arcade can be.
But, it's a game I do want to talk about. and this because despite its glaring flaws, it's fun!.

"It just so happens" an airplane is crashing towards me.
Split/Second (Split/Second: Velocity) is an arcade racing videogame developed by Black Rock Studio and published by Disney Interactive Studios. the game was released in the mid 2010.
In the game, the player assumes the role of a contestant in a Reality TV program where participants race for money and fame. and if there is money there will also be 'it just so happen accidents.' see those competitors at the bridge? BOOM! explosions.
"Power Play" as the game calls it, are events triggered by competitors. these ranges from shortcuts, malicious explosives, to a collapsing tower that alters the race track.

A 'shortcut' Power Play prompt.

those rocky cliffs to the right are rigged with explosives, waiting for someone to use a Power Play.

the Story mode or 'Season' as the game calls it has a total of 12 episodes with 6 events each.
the types of events are as follows:
- Race = a typical race.
- Elimination = a typical race but the last car will be eliminated over a period of time.
- Detonator (Time Trial) = complete a lap time with Power Plays activating as you run pass them.
- Air Strike = Dodge helicopter missiles.
- Air Revenge = Dodge helicopter missiles and Destroy the helicopter.
- Survival = dodge exploding barrels and overtake trailer trucks.
- Elite Race = a typical race. but edgier.

It's hard to describe the game with pictures. lol it's hard to take a picture of exploding stuff.
and this is why I prepared two gameplay videos, the first one is the final 'elite race' of the story mode, the second one is a Detonator mode. 😆

hitting a red barrel in survival will result in a crash. Yeah I crashed.

Split-screen mode. <3

Probably the best car overall for me.

Completion!
and so the time has come to give my verdict.
When I rate things, I always use a three-point system.
1 for Bad
2 for Okay
3 for Great
I must point out that I have very low standards and is easily impressed.
so it's very hard for me to give a score of 1,
and very easy for me to give a score of 3.
Split / Second, 2010. 3/3. IT'S FUN! but I don't recommend buying it in 2022.
The Good!
- Action!
- Suspense!
- Exhilarating!
- Detonator (Time Trial) game mode is amazing.
- somewhat realistic death race scenario.
- Very cool Camera Controls.
- Explosions!.
- More Explosions!.
- Decent Eye Candy.
- Decent amount of cars to unlock.
- Has Split-Screen.
- Can play online via IP/VPN.
- Ultra Wide Monitor Support. 😊
- Awesome Music.
The Bad!
- Awful in everything else.
- Online is officially dead. mind you it was never meant to be in the first place.
- Most if not all cars on the list are viable.
- Only Supports D-inputs controllers.
- 30 FPS.
The Neutral.
- Racing rubber-banding feature, competitors whose position lags behind the lead competitor gets performance boosts.
- Steam Remote Play Together.

and that's pretty much it.
I just want people to know about it.
It's a fun arcade racing videogame.
hehe. cheers. 😆
