This dude was tough

Well, I finally had made it to the Fire Giant. Well, I made it to him early yesterday, but I finally beat him about 30 minutes ago. This game is notorious for throwing extremely difficult bosses at you, but one of the best things about Elden Ring is there is no order to do anything. So if you come to a boss that is way too hard, you can go and kill some other bosses to level up your character or get some new gear or talismans to make you stronger for when you return to them.

The first 10 times or so that I fought him, I was trying out some different ranged magic spells on him and wasn't getting anywhere. He has some extremely hard hitting abilities that can kill you in a couple hits and kill your horse in one hit. So instead of dying over and over forever, I decided to go out and do some exploring and hopefully I will find some new gear to get stronger.

I set out on an adventure to find Mohg, the Lord of Blood. The area that he is in is pretty scary because everything is so powerful. I had originally set out for this area in search for some materials to upgrade my staff to level 10, but once I got to that area and got the material I needed, I was right next to where you fight Mohg, so I figured I would stop in and say hello to him.

When you enter his arena, blood starts dripping out of this hand that is poking out of an egg or something and then Mohg appears from the blood. One of the coolest things about this game is the level design and boss design. It is never really just entering an area and fighting a boss. There is always a pretty cool scene and buildup to the fight when you come across one of these legendary bosses.
I love the lore behind the characters in this game and one of the people I follow on YouTube and Tik Tok is Miss Chalice, who has been deemed the "Lore Mommy" from the community.

There is a lot of speculation between Mohg and Miquella's relationship, but from what I have gathered, it seems that Mohg wanted to help Miquella rise to godhood and be sort of his right hand man. Mohg and Miquella may have also been lovers, which is right up George R.R. Martin's alley as well. It will be interesting to see if more of this weird storyline unfolds later in the game.

This fight against Mohg was pretty tough. He does a mass AOE spell that shoots blood all over the place and does pretty substantial damage over time, but I adjusted my flasks and kept like 10 HP flasks to get me through the fight.
If you heal through the blood and stay clear of a lot of his attacks and distract him with your mimic tear, he isn't too terrible. It still took a while to get the timing of everything down, but I eventually got him. He does drop about 400k runes, which is a huge amount to help you level up.

So now with a level 10 staff and a few levels higher, I headed back to the Fire Giant. I also wanted to try a new technique where I stay in melee range and just attack his left foot.

Turns out when you are smacking his left ankle, he has a really hard time hitting you. If you stay mounted on your horse you can easily move out of the way from his attacks. He still ended up smashing me a few times but I eventually got the hang of it. I even had to revive my horse because he smashed the shit out of us and killed my horse.

When I got him down to about half health, his poor little leg broke or something. It almost made me feel bad for him that I was picking on his ankle.

Then he did something that I wasn't expecting at all. Dude set his leg on fire and began to rip it off of his body.

This was some of the craziest shit I have ever seen in a boss fight.

After he rips his leg off, you know he was going to get serious because the huge eyeball on his chest opens up. The rest of the fight was a lot easier than I expected. He shoots fire all over the place in front of him, but I summoned my mimic tear to keep him occupied while I ran behind him and kept smacking him until he died.

Then you head up the to the giant's cauldron and talk to Melina.

She asks you if you are prepared to commit a cardinal sin, and of course I was ready. So I took her hand and she put me to sleep or something while she set the Erd Tree ablaze.

So now the Erd Tree is on fire and I have no idea how this is going to impact the world. One of the greatest things about this game is just experiencing the story instead of being told a story like what many other games do.
This game does such an amazing job at not telling you anything and then you find bits and pieces of the story along the way and it just unfolds so beautifully. This is the type of game that when I finish playing, I want to forget everything about it and just play through it again to just experience it all once more.

So now I am off to continue my adventure to see what damage I have caused this world. I am sure it is in chaos, but I will rise through the chaos and become the Elden Lord.
