Hi it's me El Chico HIVE! Today I want to talk about the gaming industry and where it can be headed. This is my own opinion and I'm not and expert, but I wann share my thoughts.
Video games are a great form of entertainment. I've been playing games since I can remember, it's my favorite hobby, but Blockchain and Crypto have ruined them for me... Games are no longer fun if you are investing for time for nothing. Yes, you can get digital achievements, set records and have fun playing with your friends, but at the end of the day of you are not good enough, win eSports tournaments, have a million followers on YouTube or Twitch you will never be able to monetize your time in games, at least not on a traditional way. If I'm not earning HIVE video games are not fun for me, not anymore.
I've talked about this several times and that's why I'm making another post of where the gaming industry should be going. I think that Blockchain and crypto games can be the future or at least part of the industry. In the upcoming years we may see many traditional games and platforms integrate tokenization or any other type of coin distribution. When you are playing to earn money the game becomes more fun and you challenge yourself more. That is the case with Splinterlands if you compare it with Hearthstone it is a much simpler game, but for me it is more fun and I prefer spending time there, because I know that at the end of the day I might be able to pull a great card or at least gather enough DEC and sell it on the market.
All the Blockchain games that I have played aare pretty simple, they are mostly run in browsers and have little interaction. There is still not a Call of Duty or Fortnite type of game, I wish we could have a game like Skyrim or Zelda that ran in blockchain anc could be played by Hive users for free or with a small fee and all the economics of the game could be tokenized. It's a little hard to think of something like that right now, How would it work? Who knows... Maybe in a couple of years.

Right now in the current state that we are I'm sure that more browser games can be built on Hive, Games like DCity, like HolyBread or NextColony. The other day I made a quick review of a WAX game that is basically an idle game, where you can earn a specific token for running and upgrading business and read about the game here. I'm not a developer, I'm still planning to learn how to code, but to be honest I've been more focused on building my Hive blog. What I wanna say is that it might not be very hard to build a game like that one (the WAX game) on Hive, and it would be more, more efficient than WAX. The hard part is to build a balance reward system and find ways to monetize the site and to find a way to incentivize your supporters. People are always looking for great ways to invest their coins and their time, the game must be fun and worthwhile at the same time, and I think that that may not be something easy to achieve.
Back to the future of gaming. Games as a form of entertainment and they are here to stay, but I believe that they have to evolve. People are tired of spending a lot of money on disposable entertainment, you buy a game in 60 dollars and in less than a month that game is worth only a fraction, sometimes you can finish the game in less than that time. Gaming consoles are becoming more expensive, especially in third world countries. In Mexico, where I live, the US dollar right now is almost 25 pesos, a few weeks ago it was below 18, imagine the impact that that is going to have in the gaming industry in my country. New games will be costing as much as 1,800 to 2,000 pesos... When I was a Kid games were about 500 to 600 pesos and gaming consoles were affordable, now you have to be a Hiver in order to be able to buy one ;).
In the future I see a platform that could host decentralized games, these games will be built by Blockchain developers and we as the users will have several options to chose and will be able to earn coins from most of them. This platform can be hive and I know that there are a lot of people working in game for this platform and I respect them and admire them, they are fulfilling an everlasting dream that I have.
In conclusion: Games will survive, games will thrive. I believe in a new era of entertainment where the best players will not only have their name on a record or achievement, they will also have coins that will be use to support their families. These coins will not only appear as a digital symbol on the screen, these coins will let us increase our influence in the Hive blockchain. The rewards from the games will help us thrive and if we achieve that goal we will gain control of our lives.
