I've been practicing a speedrun of one of the hardest sidescrolling action-adventure games of all time: Hollow Knight. This particular speedrun is riddled with small (even embarrassing) errors but there were no major fuckups so I ended up beating my personal best time by a full minute. I'm still over ten minutes behind the world record so there is a ton of room for improvement, but I'm not sure how much more practice I have to give this game. Maybe one day I'll buckle down and get sub 40. Maybe not.
I also found an absolutely HIDEOUS EDM track that seems to go perfectly with this particular run. Specifically: deadmau5: The Godly Mau5mix
I needed a fast paced video-game-sounding track with very little dialog, and Electronic Dance Music seems to fit the bill even though many consider the genre to be absolute trash (myself included?). This particular mix meshes up well with most of the timings in the game. It even has a ticking clock in places and warp noises around the time you get warped into the dream world. Then it has creepy "WAKE UP" dialog when you start killing dreamers and other extremely uncanny coincidences that seem to magically match the speedrun. Also I smoked weed for the first time in like 3 years on my first couple playthroughs so that must have something to do with it.
At first the plan was to upload this to my derelict youtube account because I figured it would be more convenient and consistent and I have very little experience with YouTube... but right off the bat they wanted me to KYC with a phone number just to post a video longer than 15 minutes... which was honestly kind of enraging. Kudos to 3speak for maintaining this service for all these years. This is the first video I've ever uploaded in any serious capacity, and the first game I've ever speedrun in my life, and the first time I've ever used LiveSplit. All interesting experiences.
There are many more comments I'd like to add to the run itself (like talking about Queens Garden Acid skip being the hardest timing ever, and playing the game in Chinese takes a minute off my time)... but it would seem to be difficult and counterproductive to do that with text out of context with the game time in which I am referring... I may have to farm another personal best and do a voiceover to give it the proper commentary.... although I absolutely abhor the sound of my own recorded voice; unnatural uncanny valley vibes. Oh well maybe I'll have to get over it.
Hm yeah so enjoy the speedrun (or don't) and tell me what you think in the comments. I may have to post subsequent runs on my @hextech witness account so I'm not farming autovotes with similar content over and over again, but the first round is fine I'm sure.
