Uno de los logros de los ultimos años por parte de Nintendo creo que sin duda ha sido el mantener vivo y en constante innovacion su catalogo de IPs, en especial cuando el anuncio de su nueva consola (Switch) trajo dudas a muchos de sus inversionistas por una apuesta tan arriesgada, ya ellos habian visto este tipo de jugadas con el fracaso de la Wii U, pero Nintendo tenia claro lo que le habia faltado a su predecesor: Un catalogo de juegos amplio y atractivo que no solo se jueguen unicamente en su consola si no que desafie todos los parametros establecidos en el videojuego. Una apuesta rotunda a revolucionar los mercados que primero se materializo con los primeros avances de The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild y despues remato con la salida de este juego tan innovador para el genero de las plataformas: Super Mario Oddyssey, un autentico comienzo de oro para la nueva consola de Nintendo.
Esta nueva entrega del fontanero favorito de todos tiene como gran objetivo el solo no ser como sus anteriores entregas, demasiado teimpo habia pasado desde que Super Mario Galaxy supusiera un punto de quiebre para disparar las ventas de la Wii original pero desde ese entonces Nintendo se habia atascado demasiado en juegos de segunda mano, El equipo de Miyamoto buscaba volver a la esencia de los aniguos lanzamientos como Super Mario 64, y lo iba a lograr modificando la mecanica basica de los videojuegos de plataforma: El Salto.
Si has tocado alguna vez un videojuego de Mario sabras que el salto es la mayoria de la experiencia que tendras en un juego de Mario, es ineludible siquiera pensar en quitar esta mecanica pero muchos juegos indie han transformado de maneras interesante el simple hecho de saltar. Mario Oddyssey lo reinterpreta de otra manera completamente distintaç: tienes mil maneras de saltar, escoge una y experimenta con ella, el escenario esta adaptado a tus necesidades pero no necesariamente es una regla que debas seguir para finalizar el juego, esta entrega del fontanero hace muy bien en expandir los horizontes al jugador para invitarlo a resolver sus mundos de maneras mas creativas.

¿Como se salta en Super Mario Oddyssey?
Desde el inicio de la primera cinematica nos dejan bien en claro que nos espera otro viaje hacia lo desconocido, por suerte tenemos un nuevo acompañante para no solo servir de prenda de Mario si no tambien como mecanica jugable sin precedentes: Capi es ahora nuestra gorra y la que nos va a permitir poseer cualquier enemigo o personaje que nos encontremos en el juego, la mecanica es simple, la profundidad y lo acertado que logra implementar este elemento en el juego es toda una odisea, porque no solo podremos controlar diversos enemigos que nos vayamos encontrando en los mundos que exploremos si no que tambien cada uno de esos personajes nos abre un abanico nuevo de posibilidades, no solo poseeremos, si no que tambien podremos "jugar" con las habilidades de la multitud de personajes que encontraremos en un sandbox que le sobra espacio pero lo rellena con muchas misiones secundarias muy entretenidas.
Tambien hay que aclarar que este es un videojuego por capas, la primera capa nos presenta un juego facil de abordar y facil de completar, deberemos explorar los mundos en busca de las semilunas para asi poder darle combustible a nuestra nave para poder viajar a otro mundo y repetir el proceso, un diseño muy al estilo de Super Mario Galaxy pero con una brutal diferencia que encontramos en su segunda capa, que nos recuerda que la verdadera odisea de este titulo es recolectar absolutamente todas las lunas que estan esparcidas en los mundos, y algunas tareas son de una dificultad digna de cualquier otro videojuego que se considere complicado.
Es una sensacion que me recuerda mucho a Breath Of The Wild, tenemos un mundo a nuestra disposicion asi como unos objetivos claros, pero Nintendo da la total libertad al jugador para decidir cuando quiere hacer ciertas cosas, tenemos todos los elementos a nuestra disposicion desde el primer minuto de juego, ahora solo hay que aprender las mecanicas y disfrutar.

El mundo definitivo de Mario
Quiza sea muy apresurado decir que esta entrega ha revolucionado el genero de las plataformas en el videojuego, pero los mundos de Oddyssey no han dejado de sorprenderme desde el primer dia con su choque de originalidad a caa paso que doy. La mayoria de los mundos estan orientados hacia la verticalidad o horizontalidad y el videojuego aprovecha cada espacio para ponerte un detalle o un nuevo reto para ganarte una Luna, hay diferentes reinos que rebosan de tanta personalidad que es dificil concentrarse en salvar a la princesa. Nunca habia visto a Nintendo experimentar asi con sus escenarios sobre todo en un producto estrella como Mario, que lleva ya varias decadas cambiando las reglas y siendo un referente en los videojuegos.
Quiza no hable demasiado de la originalidad de sus conceptos si no de lo gigantesco que llega a ser una vez lo pruebas, cada detalle esta cuidadosamente ordenado para poder expresar un ambiente diferente a cada paso que das, los controles de Mario en cada una de sus transformaciones se sienten frescos a la vez que llegan a ser desafiados por los retos mas dificiles.

Enfrentado a sus precedentes, Odyssey es un splo de aire fresco a una IP que lo necesitaba, no solo abre el mundo a las amplias posibilidades de sus jugadores, tambien explora cada una de esas posibilidades hasta lo mas profundo, haciendo que este videojuego sea una verdadera odisea en todos los sentidos.

If you have ever played a Mario game you will know that jumping is the majority of the experience you will have in a Mario game, it is inescapable to even think about removing this mechanic but many indie games have transformed the simple act of jumping in interesting ways. Mario Oddyssey reinterprets it in a completely different way: you have a thousand ways to jump, choose one and experiment with it, the scenario is adapted to your needs but it is not necessarily a rule that you must follow to finish the game, this installment of the plumber does very well in expanding the horizons of the player to invite him to solve his worlds in more creative ways.

How do you skip around in Super Mario Oddyssey?

It's a feeling that reminds me a lot of Breath Of The Wild, we have a world at our disposal as well as clear objectives, but Nintendo gives total freedom to the player to decide when he wants to do certain things, we have all the elements at our disposal from the first minute of play, now we just have to learn the mechanics and enjoy.

The ultimate Mario world
It may be too hasty to say that this installment has revolutionized the platforming genre in video gaming, but Oddyssey's worlds haven't ceased to amaze me since day one with their shock of originality at every turn. Most of the worlds are vertically or horizontally oriented and the game takes advantage of every space to give you a detail or a new challenge to earn a moon, there are different realms that are full of so much personality that it is difficult to concentrate on saving the princess. I've never seen Nintendo experiment like this with their scenarios, especially in a flagship product like Mario, which has been changing the rules and being a benchmark in video games for several decades.
Maybe I don't talk too much about the originality of its concepts but about how gigantic it becomes once you try it, every detail is carefully arranged to express a different atmosphere at every step you take, Mario's controls in each of his transformations feel fresh while becoming challenged by the most difficult challenges.

In contrast to its precedents, Odyssey is a breath of fresh air to an IP that needed it, it not only opens the world to the wide possibilities of its players, it also explores each of those possibilities to the very depths, making this video game a true odyssey in every way.
