The best SNES genre, beat 'em up

Well, we know that retro games are the ones that have led us to what we are today, specifically in games, a genre that always seemed fun to me, and even, I enjoyed for quite some time, was the beat 'em up, or in its translation, me against the neighborhood, at first it seemed to me a game without any logic, it was just walking and go hitting everyone you meet, but then I understood that that was the fun of the game, hitting your whole neighborhood is one of the funniest things in the fucking world.

The truth is that there is too many beat 'em up games, many, old, new, intermediate, and even recent, but today I'm going to talk about Brawl Brothers, one of many games of this style, but I talk about this one because it was one of the first I tried when I started playing video games. This game comes from the '90s, obviously, at that time I didn't even think it existed, but it was around 2009-2010 that I was interested in playing it, that's why today I wanted to play it again and remember the old times.

When I started, I didn't even give myself the task of modifying the difficulty or anything like that, I just saw the controls and that's it, I embarked on an adventure that the truth is, I didn't have much hope XD. These games are generally hyper-difficult to play on PC, the reason is simple, in a controller we have the facility to make combos and move more intuitively, instead, here on PC, we have a crappy keyboard that really does not help us at all, and the combos become impossible to do because we must follow a pattern, which on the keyboard can not.

Even so, I started playing it, at the beginning I had no fucking idea of anything, they just kept punching me in the face xD. With the A key you punch, with the W key a hook, and with the D key a super punch, something I don't like about playing on the keyboard, is that the controls are super strange, I mean, we jump on the S key???? Sure, I know you can change them, but have you ever tried to control a SNES on a PC? it's disgusting to move between them XD. Well, after about 10 minutes I had learned the basics, punching and trying to dodge them.

Well, what I loved at first glance, are the graphics and music, the graphics basically transport you to another astral plane, another era, and the retro music that the game has, is simply an auditory orgasm. Something that I didn't love too much, is that the game is still super difficult, but at immense levels, the gameplay is cool, but I feel that it lacks some things, maybe better combos, and things like that, I don't know, anyway, whatever I say now will never fucking happen XD.

We have 5 characters in total to choose from, each one has a different fighting style, I love Slash and the green doll, Kazan. This time I tried the two mentioned above, and I did well, I managed to advance two levels, and, believe it or not, that's a very big achievement XD. This game apart from being difficult, the levels are also long, in fact, on some occasions, I had to repeat because I died, it's really difficult.

I like that the game is divided by zones, that is, you're walking and you can't advance until you eliminate all the enemies, sometimes many appear, and the worst thing is that they all attack you, I suffered a lot when moving and being able to run into them because they move a lot, and if you miss 1 hit, they will make you a mega combo xD. So, the truth is that it takes some getting used to if you don't have experience with these games, to be honest. The side-scrolling will always be something that marked this era.

The game seems very simple, but it is not, it has labyrinths, we could call it dungeons, where we must follow clues, a specific path to get out of there, and there are stages that usually take you even more than half an hour to complete them, here it is not only fighting, we must also use our heads. I love that in each level, we can get absolutely everything different from the others, new maps, new objects, new enemies, and even changing the ways to fight the enemies. Obviously, each level has a boss, this boss is accompanied by minions that will help him defeat us. Oh, I almost forgot, we can get items on the floor, life boosts, baseball bats, and even weapons, but the latter occurs in the advanced levels.

Overall Brawl Brothers is a gem, a game that any fucking person can enjoy, although you should be prepared because the difficulty will make you explode with rage. Bye!

El mejor genero de SNES, beat 'em up

Bueno, sabemos que los juegos retro son los que nos han llevado a lo que somos hoy en día, específicamente en los juegos, un género que siempre me pareció divertido, e incluso, disfruté por bastante tiempo, era los beat 'em up, o en su traducción, yo contra el barrio, al principio me parecía un juego sin nada de lógica, sólo era caminar e ir pegando a todo el que te encuentres, pero después comprendí que esa era la diversión del juego, pegarle a todo tu barrio es una de las cosas más divertidas del puto mundo.

La verdad es que existen demasiados juegos beat 'em up, muchísimos, viejos, nuevos, intermedios y hasta recientes, pero hoy les vengo a hablar de Brawl Brothers, uno de tantos juegos de este estilo, pero hablo de este porque fue uno de los primeros que probé cuándo empecé a jugar esto de los videojuegos. Este juego viene de la época de los 90, obviamente yo en esa fecha ni siquiera tenía pensado existir, pero fué por ahí en el 2009-2010 que me interesó jugarlo, por eso es que hoy también quise volver a jugarlo y recordar viejos tiempos.

Al comenzar, ni siquiera me di la tarea de modificar la dificultad o algo así, solo vi los controles y listo, me embarqué en una aventura que la verdad, no tenía mucha esperanza XD. Estos juegos generalmente son hyper-difíciles jugarlos en PC, la razón es sencilla, en un mando tenemos la facilidad de hacer combos y movernos más intuitivamente, en cambio, acá en PC, tenemos un teclado de mierda que la verdad no nos ayuda en nada, y los combos se vuelven imposible de hacer ya que debemos seguir un patrón, cosa que en el teclado no se puede.

Aún así lo empecé a jugar, al principio no tenía ni puta idea de algo, solo no paraban de darme puñetazos en la cara xD. Con la tecla A se da puñetazo, con la W un gancho, y con la D super puñetazo, algo que no me gusta de jugar en teclado, es que los controles son super extraños, o sea, saltamos en la tecla S??? Claro, sé que se pueden cambiar, pero alguna vez han intentado manejar una SNES en una PC? da asco moverse entre ella XD. Bueno, después de unos 10 minutos ya había aprendido lo básico, pegar puñetazos e intentar esquivarlos.

Pues, lo que a primera vista me encantó, son los gráficos y música, los gráficos básicamente te transportan a otro plano astral, otra época, y la música tan retro que el juego tiene, es simplemente orgasmo auditivo. Algo que no me encanto demasiado, es que el juego sigue siendo super difícil, pero a niveles inmensos, la jugabilidad del juego está cool, pero siento que le faltan algunas cosas, tal vez mejores combos, y cosas así, no sé, igual todo lo que diga ahora nunca en la puta vida pasará XD.

Tenemos 5 personajes en total para elegir, cada uno tiene un estilo distinto para pelear, a mi me encanta Slash y el muñeco verde, Kazan. En esta ocasión probé a los dos antes mencionados, me fué bien la verdad, logré avanzar dos niveles, y, aunque no lo crean, eso es un logro muy grande XD. Este juego aparte de difícil, los niveles son largos también, de hecho, en algunas ocasiones me tocó repetir porque moría, es realmente difícil.

Me gusta que el juego se divide por zonas, o sea, vas caminando y no puedes avanzar más hasta que eliminas a todos los enemigos, algunas veces aparecen muchos, y lo peor es que todos te atacan, sufrí bastante al a hora de moverme y poder toparme con ellos, ya que se mueven bastante, y si fallas 1 golpe, ellos te harán un mega combo xD. Entonces, la verdad es que cuesta acostumbrarse si no tienes experiencia con estos juegos, la verdad. El desplazamiento lateral siempre será algo que marcó esta era.

El juego parece muy simple, pero no lo es, tiene laberintos, podríamos llamarlo mazmorras, en dónde debemos seguir pistas, un camino específico para poder salir de ahí, hay etapas que te suelen tomar incluso más de media hora completarlas, acá no solo es luchar, también debemos usar la cabeza. Me encanta que en cada nivel, podemos conseguir absolutamente todo distinto a los demás, nuevos mapas, nuevos objetos, nuevos enemigos, incluso cambian las formas de pelear en los enemigos. Obviamente cada nivel tiene un jefe, este jefe viene acompañado de secuaces que lo ayudarán a derrotarnos. Ah, casi lo olvido, podemos conseguir objetos en el piso, boosts de vida, bates de beísbol, e incluso armas, pero esto último ocurre en los niveles avanzados.

En general Brawl Brothers es una joya, un juego que cualquier puta persona puede disfrutar, aunque eso sí, deben preparase, ya que la dificultad los hará explotar de la rabia. Un saludo!
