La PlayStation 1 fue una de las consolas que trajo un inmenso catálogo, juegos de carreras, peleas, aventuras, plataformas, simuladores, RPG y muchos más, pero uno de los géneros donde más destacó dicha consola fue los Survival Horror, donde brillaron títulos como Silent Hill o Resident Evil, sin embargo, existieron otros juegos que muy pocos tuvieron la oportunidad de jugar, por tales motivos son considerados infravalorados, este es el caso de Echo Night.

The PlayStation 1 was one of the consoles that brought an immense catalog, racing games, fights, adventures, platforms, simulators, RPG and many more, but one of the genres where this console stood out the most was Survival Horror, where titles like Silent Hill or Resident Evil shined, however, there were other games that very few had the opportunity to play, for such reasons are considered undervalued, this is the case of Echo Night.

Echo Night es considerado una gema oculta dentro del catálogo de la PSX, a pesar de no traer una jugabilidad única, tiene una esencia que lo hace especial, además es uno de los títulos que desarrolló la empresa From Software, actualmente conocida por la creación de títulos muy famosos como Dark Souls, es decir, este y otros juegos más formaron a la mítica empresa que todos conocemos en la actualidad.

Echo Night is considered a hidden gem within the catalog of the PSX, despite not bringing a unique gameplay, has an essence that makes it special, it is also one of the titles developed by the company From Software, currently known for creating very famous titles such as Dark Souls, ie this and other games formed the legendary company that we all know today.

Lo que hace especial a Echo Night es su ambiente solitario, oscuro y silencioso, donde la luz juega un papel muy importante, ya que gracias a ella podemos controlar a un fantasma que nos acecha constantemente, por lo que debemos mantener la mayoría de zonas iluminadas a través de interruptores, si por algún motivo estamos en un lugar oscuro es cuando más debemos estar alertas, debido a que nuestra vida corre peligro.

What makes Echo Night special is its solitary, dark and silent environment, where light plays a very important role, since thanks to it we can control a ghost that is constantly stalking us, so we must keep most of the areas illuminated through switches, if for some reason we are in a dark place is when we must be more alert, because our life is in danger.

El desarrollo de dicho título se realizó en Japón, lugar que tuvo la exclusividad de tenerlo durante un año (1998-1999), luego se lanzó en occidente con la finalidad de aumentar sus ventas, sin embargo, el mercado de este tipo de juegos estaba dominado por otras compañías como Capcom o Silent Hill, esto tuvo como consecuencia que sus ventas no fuesen muy buenas, ocasionando que su secuela solo fuese exclusiva en país de origen.

The development of this title was carried out in Japan, place that had the exclusivity of having it during one year (1998-1999), then it was launched in the west with the purpose of increasing its sales, nevertheless, the market of this type of games was dominated by other companies like Capcom or Silent Hill, this had as consequence that its sales were not very good, causing that its sequel was only exclusive in country of origin.

Echo Night sirvió como base para la creación de múltiples juegos del género del terror en Japón, entre ellos podemos encontrar a Kuon, Echo Night 2: The Lord of Nightmares y Echo Night: Beyond, este último fue lanzado en PlayStation 2 en el año 2004. A pesar de ser juegos medianamente decentes, la crítica los aplastó en su momento, ya que carecían de originalidad, alegaban sus mecánicas, puzzles, entre otros factores, se parecían mucho a otros juegos de diferentes franquicias.

Echo Night served as the basis for the creation of multiple games in the horror genre in Japan, among them we can find Kuon, Echo Night 2: The Lord of Nightmares and Echo Night: Beyond, the latter was released on PlayStation 2 in 2004. Despite being fairly decent games, the critics crushed them at the time, since they lacked originality, claimed their mechanics, puzzles, among other factors, were very similar to other games from different franchises.

A pesar de que ya han pasado más de 22 años, vale la pena probar por un par de horas Echo Night, un juego ayudó en aquellos años a impulsar desde las sombras a la evolución del género de terror, además de ser unos de los primeros juegos de From Software, un tema muy interesante que podemos abarcar en una futura ocasión.
