Square Enix is a company capable of making a simple title with a pseudo-attractive plot into a game that can be a work of art, I'm a fan of most of them and at the time I was mega hooked with games like Chrono Trigger, Kingdom Hearts and several FF. If you follow my blog, a few days ago I finished Dark Souls and the next on my list to complete was another game published by them, as you see in the title NieR Automata, a game that looks spectacular.
Some time ago I had it cold in my library, taking advantage of an offer I bought the YoRHa Edition which I tried to download to have it ready when I was more or less finishing DS so I had time to start with the story. I have also seen several posts from friends of mine who have played it and said that it is a great game, so as you can see I have high expectations with this title, but of course, I will have to see how it develops because it is never good to stigmatize a game before trying it, so let's get to it.
We start in a squad, in a scene of ships of a team which we are part of, which is called YoRHa, the main idea is to go to the island where they inhabit the machining center and kill the main core which is Goliath. The problem is that the machines themselves guard the island and therefore we will see how our platoon suffers to achieve this goal, showing us how from the beginning they usually die little by little until only we are left in command.
This part seemed quite curious to me because although I knew that the game itself is an adventure in the third person I did not know that at times we will understand other types of shots and cameras that will vary the gameplay. We have to make our way shooting like Space Race of the Atari, which with the theme of the shooting effects itself I found spectacular plus it is a part that can be handled quite smoothly along with the music at the beginning reminding me of the mentioned arcade title.
After a journey on the ship, I could see how it was progressively destroyed until we finally fall, we meet the long-awaited 2B, which many people who do not even know of the existence of this game will know for the many fanarts it has. In it we went from the camera we had in 2D from the top to a 3D where we know the combat system and how it works itself, which reminded me a lot of what we saw in DmC.
The combat system is simple, we have different types of attacks, finishing off when enemies are down and we can dodge if we time exactly the moment in which the enemy hits us, dividing us into parts. In addition, we have a robot with which we can shoot constantly which I find broken, although as I play on the controller I do not get used to the theme of the triggers while fighting to focus, shoot, etc. It's quite rare, to be honest.
Already after several fights, we realize that we are not alone -well, 2B- on the island, there is still a companion of our team who is there to help us in our journey which I could say is a male version of 2B called 9S. A giant robot makes a rather spectacular appearance and helps us a little to find information around the island as such, as well as at some point allows us to save ourselves later but before that I preferred to go exploring the environment.
After that, we'll be constantly exploring until we meet Goliath and fight with him in a pretty epic battle with a spectacular soundtrack. I'll be honest, I didn't know that when I died I had to repeat the entire prologue, so I ended up dying and my reaction was astonishment when I saw the credits and an ending and had to repeat it completely, but fortunately going fast I was able to get there and fight the epic battle as it should, having moments with bots, fly bots, giant bots, big mechanical arms, etc.
Another thing, I liked about the whole part of the perspectives, I think it's one of the things I love about NieR Automata is how it plays with the cameras and makes you feel in a different style of game. In it, we can go from perspectives from one side, like any Metroidvania, top-down (from above), from a ship like the Atari games, or in a typical third-person as I said which reminded me of a combat very similar to Devil May Cry, with spectacular effects.

I don't know if it's the intention of the game itself, to pay homage to other styles, but it's what I tend to project as I progress since I don't remember having played a title that had that abrupt change of perspectives. I honestly liked it a lot as I see it as something innovative, at least from my experience it is, as it gives me the feeling that the game itself is playing with this to give me a sense of constant change and not make the repetitive, combat, special effects, end and repeat which is pretty cool.
Also, something I did not know about was the open worlds, after the prologue, we are sent to earth in search of talking to the resistance and obviously, we are in the presence of an almost apocalyptic world, desolate, in which we have a presence of animals in it and neglected vegetation, along with abandoned buildings, destroyed in many ways and with lots of things all over the environment which I took the deliberate task of going exploring of course.
Also in it, there are enemies that we face and also machine points which are mostly attacked by bots, if we free them we can access them to get a piece of the map along with some objects that are in it. If you play online, on the map we will find players' corpses and we can decide whether to revive them to obtain resources, recruit them to help us or ignore them along with a message that they usually leave you on the way and if you die in it you can leave one to other players in their game.
After this I had no choice but to go looting, I could see some other enemy to the point on the map and the game warned me that it was quite strong so I decided not to face it to avoid dying at some point. I could also fish along the way to get things and by the sea, there is usually a niche of fishermen who are not hostile, something curious, and once we could explore the whole site we went to the place of resistance to finish my first hours of play here.
The game is awesome without a doubt, at least at the beginning I'm really hooked with intrigue to see how the story progresses because as I have been told the game has many endings and I'm intrigued to see how each one goes, but it's something I'll see. Without a doubt at least the first few hours seemed brutal, I think the best prologues I've ever seen, now it remains to see the story itself. Square Enix es una compañía capaz de hacer de un simple título con una trama pseudo-atractiva un juego que puede ser una obra de arte, yo soy un fan de la mayoría de ellos y ya en su momento quedé mega enganchado con juegos como Chrono Trigger, Kingdom Hearts y varios FF. Si siguen mi blog, hace unos días terminé Dark Souls y el siguiente en mi lista por completar era otro juego publicado por ellos, como ven en el título se trata de NieR Automata, un juego que luce espectacular.
Hace un tiempo que lo tenía frío en mi biblioteca, aprovechando una oferta que hubo compré la YoRHa Edition la cual de hecho procuré descargarla para tenerla lista cuando estaba más o menos terminando DS así que tocaba tiempo para empezar con la historia. También he visto varios posts de amigos míos los cuales lo han jugado y dicho que es un juegazo, así que como podrán ver tengo bastantes expectativas con este título, aunque claro está que tocará ir viendo.
Empezamos en un escuadrón, en una escena de naves de un equipo el cual formamos parte, que es llamado YoRHa, la idea principal es ir a la isla donde habitan el centro de máquinas y acabar con el núcleo principal que es Goliath. El problema es que las propias máquinas resguardan la isla y por lo tanto veremos como nuestro pelotón sufre para poder lograr este objetivo, mostrándonos como desde el principio suelen ir muriendo poco a poco hasta sólo quedar nosotros al mando.
Esta parte me pareció bastante curiosa ya que si bien sabía que el juego en sí se trata de una aventura en tercera persona no sabía que por momentos comprenderemos otro tipo de planos y cámaras que variarán el gameplay. Tenemos que ir haciéndonos paso disparando como Space Race del Atari, el cual con el tema de los efectos de disparo en sí me pareció espectacular además de que es una parte que se puede manejar bastante fluida junto a la música del comienzo, algo muy cool.
Ya luego de una travesía en nave, pude ver como progresivamente se fue destruyendo hasta que caemos por fin, conocemos a la tan esperada 2B la cual muchísimas personas que ni si quiera sepan de la existencia de este juego la conocerán por muchísimos fanarts que tiene. En él pasamos de la cámara que teníamos en 2D desde el punto de arriba a una 3D donde conocemos el sistema de combate y como funciona en sí el mismo, el cual me recordó bastante al que veíamos en DmC.
El sistema de combate es sencillo, tenemos distintos tipos de ataque, remates cuando los enemigos están caídos y podemos esquivar si timeamos exactamente el momento en el que el enemigo nos da el hit, dividiéndonos en partes. Además, de tener un bot con el que podemos disparar de forma constante, aunque como juego en mando no me acostumbro al tema de los gatillos mientras peleamos para focusear, disparar, etc. Es algo que es bastante raro honestamente.
Ya luego de varias peleas nos damos cuenta de que no estamos solos -bueno, 2B- en la isla, aún hay un compañero de nuestro equipo que está para ayudarnos en nuestra travesía el cual podría decir que es una versión masculina de 2B llamado 9S. Desde un robot gigante hace una aparición bastante espectacular y nos ayuda un poco a encontrar información alrededor de la isla como tal, además de en algún momento permitirnos salvarnos más adelante.
Ya luego de ello será ir explorando constantemente hasta encontrarnos con Goliath y pelear con él en una batalla bastante épica con un soundtrack espectacular. Seré sincero, no sabía que al morir debía repetir todo el prólogo por lo cual terminé muriendo y mi reacción fue de asombro al ver lo créditos y un final y el tener que repetirlo por completo, pero afortunadamente yendo rápido pude llegar y librar la épica batalla como se debe, habiendo momentos con bots, brazos mecánicos, etc.
Otra cosa, me gustó toda la parte de las perspectivas, creo que es una de las cosas que me encantan de NieR Automata es el cómo juega con las cámaras y te hace sentir en un estilo de juego diferente. En él podemos pasar desde perspectivas desde un lado, a lo de cualquier metroidvania, top-down (desde arriba), desde una nave como los juegos de Atari o en un típico ARPG como ya dije el cual me recordó a un combate muy parecido a Devil May Cry, con efectos espectaculares.

No sé si es la intención del juego en sí, homenajear a otros estilos, pero es lo que suelen proyectarme conforme voy avanzando ya que no recuerdo haber jugado a un título que tuviera esos cambio de perspectivas. Sinceramente me gustó mucho ya que lo veo como algo innovador, al menos desde mi experiencia lo es, ya que me da la sensación de que en sí está jugando con esto para darme una sensación de cambio constante y no hacer el repetitivo, combate, efecto y repetirlo.
También algo que no sabía era los mundos abiertos, luego de el prólogo somos enviados a la tierra en busca de hablar con la resistencia y obviamente, estamos en presencia de un mundo casi que apocalíptico, desolado, en el cual tenemos presencia de animales en él y una vegetación descuidada, junto con edificaciones abandonadas, destruidas en muchos sentidos y con montones de cosas por toda la ambientación las cuales me tomé la tarea de ir explorando claro está.
También en ello hay enemigos que enfrentamos y además puntos de máquinas los cuales en su mayoría son atacados por bots, si los liberamos podemos acceder a ellos para obtener un pedazo del mapa junto con algunos objetos que se encuentren en el mismo. Si juegas en línea, en el mapa encontraremos cadáveres de jugadores los cuales podremos decidir si revivir para obtener recursos, reclutar para que nos ayuden o ignorar junto con un mensaje que ellos suelen dejarte en el camino.
Luego de esto no me quedó más que ir looteando, pude ver algún que otro enemigo al punto del mapa el cual el juego me advirtió que era bastante fuerte por lo que decidí no enfrentarlo para evitar morir en algún punto. También pude pescar en el camino para obtener cosas y junto al mar suele haber un nicho de pescadores que no son hostiles, algo curioso, ya una vez pudimos explorar todo el sitio fuimos al lugar de la resistencia para acabar mis primeras horas de juego aquí.
El juego es una locura sin duda, por lo menos de principio me tiene muy enganchado con intriga de ver como progresa la historia ya que como me han dicho el juego posee muchísimos finales y tengo intriga de ver cómo va cada uno, pero es algo que iré viendo. Sin duda por lo menos las primeras horas me parecieron brutales, creo que de los mejores prólogos que he llegado a ver, ahora quedará ver la historia en sí.
