I was surprised to find out about a new game on Hive, called Crownrend, that started out only a couple of hours ago. It is an incremental game coupled with PvP (you can attack other players).
The game has been developed by @deathwing and @mrtats, and at first impression one could associate it as a genre to the early days Golem Overlord or TerraCorre, which have been quite successful on Hive.
I believe it's important to start early in these type of evolutive/incremental games, that's why I'm writing this post practically as soon as I found out about it myself and joined, a couple of minutes ago.
There is a fee of 10$ worth of Hive to start, but if GO and possibly TerraCore (but I'm not as "advanced" over there to compare) are any indication of the potential success of the game (not guaranteed obviously), then you should be able to recoup the fee and then play from profit after a while. It's up to you, your consistency, and your compatibility with games where you may get attacked by other players and lose some of your unclaimed resources.
Personally, I love this type of games. Not too time-consuming, with a sense of progress, and with some unexpected introduced due to attacks, both positive and negative.
The success of the game will probably depend on many factors, from balancing rewards so that there isn't created a huge discrepancy between players, to avoiding constant farming of the same players by the same people (sometimes unintentional), especially as they start out, to finding the economic incentives for players to keep/burn a good part of their rewards instead of dumping them on the market as soon as they are claimed, to incentivizing people to level up instead of farming lower levels, and so on.
I'd better go claim my rewards, lol. And maybe raid a few people.

P.S.: Here's a beginner's guide for the game from one of its creators. I've just discovered it myself.
