One of the games I have been looking forward to has been Gotham Knights, and it was released yesterday! I went ahead and bought this game right away. There are a couple of reasons why I was excited for this game,1 because it was a “batman” game, and 2. Because it has coop which meant I could play it with my cousin! Being a few hours into the game, I figured I’d give you guys my first impressions of it!
Right off the back I think it is important to acknowledge that this game isn’t tied into the arkham series, like the Suicide squad game will be. The opening cinematic for this game is pretty sweet, but unfortunately it feels so goddamn long! The opening scene is of Batman and Ras al Ghoul fighting in the Batcave, which leads to Batman’s death. One of the things that would have made this not feel as long would have been if we got to fight Ra's as Batman. It would be an impossible fight and it would be an awesome moment as we could feel how helpless Batman actually is.
And then right after we get a shot of Bruce’s funeral, followed by the bat family getting one final message from Batman, which is him leaving Gotham in the hands of his adopted children.
The next part is where you can pick who you want to play as, Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, or Robin ( Tim Drake). Now my first choice would have been Nightwing, but as my cousin more or less called dibs on him, I decided to go with Red Hood.
Now I’m not going to dissect every single mission I did, because I did a few of them, but I will say that the first mission is what leads the bat family down the Rabbit Hole, and is what causes them to discover the Court of Owls.
What I will say here is that I love Jason Todd. I don’t really like him in combat as he uses his pistols as melee weapons, like one would use brass knuckles, but everything else about him, I enjoy. His interactions with the other members of the bat-family, his personality, and generally his character development.
When it comes to Jason Todd, he isn’t the classic Jason Todd that we know. He was killed by the Joker then brought back two years later using the Lazerous Pit. I haven’t uncovered much more about his backstory other than it seems like he was a sort of brainwashed by the Pit. Somehow he broke this conditioning, and was later reunited with the bat family.
The story is also intriguing to me. Like I said before, you start off following up a lead that eventually leads you down the rabbit hole and leads to the discovery of the Court of Owls( where I am currently at in the game). Every mission I have done so far has been fun. I think a part of the reason why I think so is that with each mission we see the Bat Family adapting more to their new roles of protectors of Gotham.
Then there is the open world. At night you do patrols, which means that you solve random crimes, to find clues about other crimes and to level up, there are side activities such as completing “races” to unlock batman’s hidden stashes, collecting collectibles, unlocking fast travel points, completing side missions which are amazing as we have to deal with characters like Mr.Freeze, and Harley Quinn!!
And traveling around Gotham on the Bat-Cycle. Now the Bat-cycle is something I do not like. For some reason, it feels like it doesn’t go fast at all. I’m not sure if this is because of the way the camera is positioned behind it or what. But it kinda feels like a drag. Most of the time I find myself using Jason Todd’s special Jump ability to get around the map.
The combat too can be sort of lack luster. One thing I didn’t like about it was that it didn’t have a counter system like the Arkham series had, instead when you counter you just do extra damage. One thing I did like was the RPG element added to this game. As you level, you unlock more skills and the enemies around you level too!
Then there is the gear! One of my big fears about this game was that the gear would be like Marvel Avengers, in the sense that it wouldn’t actually change the way your guy looks, but that isn’t the case! Different gear has different looks!
One big thing that kind of pissed me off was that the Join/Invite option on Steam wasn’t working for this game. Apparently you could join random matches, but can’t have a friend join yours. This felt like a kick to the nuts and I do hope they get it fixed!
You might have seen all the low review scores this game has been getting, but in all honesty, those people must be smoking crap. This game isn’t a 5/5, but it certainly isn’t 2/5. If I had to rate this game as of now, I’d have to say that it is a solid 3.5/4.

Uno de los juegos que esperaba con ansias era Gotham Knights, ¡y se lanzó ayer! Seguí adelante y compré este juego de inmediato. Hay un par de razones por las que estaba entusiasmado con este juego, 1 porque era un juego de "Batman" y 2. ¡Porque tiene cooperativo, lo que significa que podía jugarlo con mi primo! Después de unas horas en el juego, ¡pensé en darles mis primeras impresiones!
Desde el principio, creo que es importante reconocer que este juego no está vinculado a la serie Arkham, como lo estará el juego Suicide Squad. La cinemática de apertura de este juego es bastante dulce, ¡pero desafortunadamente se siente tan condenadamente larga! La escena de apertura es de Batman y Ras al Ghoul peleando en la Baticueva, lo que conduce a la muerte de Batman. Una de las cosas que habría hecho que esto no se sintiera tan largo habría sido si pudiéramos luchar contra Ra's como Batman. Sería una pelea imposible y sería un momento increíble, ya que podríamos sentir lo indefenso que es Batman en realidad.

Lo que diré aquí es que amo a Jason Todd. Creo que una parte de la razón por la que pienso así es que con cada misión vemos a la Familia de Murciélagos adaptándose más a sus nuevos roles de protectores de Ciudad Gótica.
Luego está el mundo abierto. Por la noche haces patrullas, lo que significa que resuelves crímenes aleatorios, para encontrar pistas sobre otros crímenes y para subir de nivel, hay actividades paralelas como completar "carreras" para desbloquear los escondites ocultos de batman, recolectar coleccionables, desbloquear puntos de viaje rápido, completar ¡Misiones secundarias que son increíbles ya que tenemos que lidiar con personajes como Mr.Freeze y Harley Quinn!
Y viajando por Gotham en el Bat-Cycle. Ahora el Bat-ciclo es algo que no me gusta. Por alguna razón, parece que no va rápido en absoluto. No estoy seguro de si esto se debe a la forma en que la cámara está colocada detrás o qué. Pero se siente como un lastre. La mayoría de las veces me encuentro usando la habilidad especial de salto de Jason Todd para moverme por el mapa.
El combate también puede ser una especie de falta de brillo. Una cosa que no me gustó fue que no tenía un sistema de contraataque como el que tenía la serie Arkham, sino que cuando contraatacas solo haces daño adicional. Una cosa que me gustó fue el elemento RPG agregado a este juego. ¡A medida que subes de nivel, desbloqueas más habilidades y los enemigos a tu alrededor también suben de nivel!
Luego está el equipo! Uno de mis grandes temores sobre este juego era que el equipo sería como Marvel Avengers, en el sentido de que en realidad no cambiaría la apariencia de tu chico, ¡pero ese no es el caso! ¡Diferentes equipos tienen diferentes looks!
Una gran cosa que me molestó un poco fue que la opción Unirse/Invitar en Steam no funcionaba para este juego. Aparentemente, podrías unirte a partidas aleatorias, pero no puedes tener un amigo que se una a la tuya. ¡Esto se sintió como una patada en las nueces y espero que lo arreglen!
Es posible que hayas visto todos los bajos puntajes de revisión que ha recibido este juego, pero con toda honestidad, esas personas deben estar fumando basura. Este juego no es un 5/5, pero ciertamente no es un 2/5. Si tuviera que calificar este juego a partir de ahora, tendría que decir que es un sólido 3.5/4.
