What is going on, guys! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! For those that don’t know WoW WoTLK classic server came online a while back, and after seeing @kaelci post about her adventures in classic, I got a huge hankering to play the game simply for nostalgia.
Back when I first started playing WoW ( You might remember I talk about how I became addicted to MMO’s in my early teenage years) it was WoTLK that I played. It was my introduction to WoW, and I loved every minute of it. Unfortunately, my parents were not willing to dish out the subscription fee for it, after two months, so I ended up hopping over to a private server ( I know young gamergeek was a little criminal!!)
However, it wasn’t long before I stopped playing WoW all together, and that was for a few reasons that I may get to in another post.
In recent years I started playing WoW again off and on, and admittedly it was the game that got me to start upgrading my PC, as I thought the reason why everything took so long load was because my PC was “outdated”. But that is another story, for another day!
To make a long Intro short, I decided to dive back into WoTLK, and boy, I was in for a treat!
First up is the hardest decision ever, what class/race to play. Back in the golden days of WoW, I loved playing as a Paladin, so naturally I went with a human pally ( I used to play as Horde, but found a certain fondness for the alliance).
Almost right off the back, I was faced with how much harder this game was than retail. After picking up the starter area quests, I went to smite some wolves and koblods, and by god it seemed like it took forever for them to die.
The starter area took me around 6 hours all together to get out of. And I loved it! One of the things I hate about retail, and with games like SWTOR, is that they took the grinding for levels out of the game. So you’re not really forced to explore to find quests to level. Instead, you just need to do a handful of quests to be on pair for the next area.
But in Classic, oh no. It’s different! I had to do almost every quest just to be a few levels unders the next area! Which I wasn’t that big of a deal as it gave me time to level up my Mining.
So as a Level 10 Ret Pally, I left the Goldshire area and headed for Westfall. This is where I got my ass handed to me! The first few quests I got were to kill some mobs, with the lowest level quest being for level 12s. I had to carefully navigate my way to where some of the lower mobs were because the area was full of level 15 Harvest Golems, and other enemies usually ranging from level 11-15.
I was able to complete a few quests but my damage output was horrible, and I kept getting killed. I came to the conclusion that it was because of my armor. Having a decent collection of copper ore I decided to head back to the city to do some blacksmithing.
This is where I got a kind of rude awakening. I leveled up my blacksmithing enough to craft a Claymore that would replace my mallet. The only problem was that I needed 1 light leather. So i headed to the auction house to see if I could nab 1 for a couple of silver… I couldn’t.
1 Light leather was going for around 90 silver, while a bundle of light leather was going for 9+ Gold. So I was SoL, but then I had an idea. After crafting a new set of armor, I still had two stacks of Copper Bars left. I decided to see how much they were going for on the AH and saw that they were selling for 10g a stack.
Wanting to make a quick buck I listed one of my stacks for 5 gold, and sure enough someone bought it.
After purchasing the light leather I needed, I crafted the weapon to replace my crappy, slow, mallet.
With a new set of gear I was able to survive more of Westfall, although for the first bit I did still have to cherry pick my targets. Once I hit level 13 ( which I am now) things became a lot easier. Right now I have a quest to kill two types of looters, of each, and the big pain I am facing right now is that one type are mages, and they rek me with their fireballs!
There is one thing I was really surprised about during my time playing classic again, and that was how much friendlier people were. More than once I had people wanting to team up with me in order to knock out a few quests. I even had a twinked out level 16 help me out at level 11 to complete some quests I needed to do to desperately level up.
It may sound stupid but these things made me smile. The past couple of days haven’t been the best ( Depression and stress goes together perfectly) so it was just a nice feeling to get helped out.

¡Qué está pasando, muchachos! ¡Espero que todos hayan tenido un fin de semana increíble! Para aquellos que no conocen WoW, el servidor clásico de WoTLK se conectó hace un tiempo, y después de ver la última publicación de Kaelci sobre sus aventuras en él, sentí un gran deseo de jugar el juego simplemente por nostalgia.
Cuando comencé a jugar WoW (quizás recuerdes que hablé sobre cómo me volví adicto a los MMO en mis primeros años de adolescencia), era WoTLK a lo que jugaba. Fue mi introducción a WoW, y disfruté cada minuto. Desafortunadamente, mis padres no estaban dispuestos a pagar la tarifa de suscripción después de dos meses, así que terminé saltando a un servidor privado (¡lo sé, el joven gamergeek era un pequeño criminal!)
Sin embargo, no pasó mucho tiempo antes de que dejara de jugar WoW por completo, y eso fue por algunas razones que tal vez trate en otra publicación.
En los últimos años, comencé a jugar WoW de vez en cuando, y es cierto que fue el juego lo que me hizo comenzar a actualizar mi PC, ya que pensé que la razón por la que todo tardaba tanto en cargarse era porque mi PC estaba "desactualizada". Pero esa es otra historia, para otro día!
Para acortar una introducción larga, decidí volver a sumergirme en WoTLK, y vaya, ¡me esperaba una sorpresa!
Lo primero es la decisión más difícil de la historia, qué clase/raza jugar. En los días dorados de WoW, me encantaba jugar como un paladín, así que, naturalmente, fui con un compañero humano (solía jugar como Horda, pero encontré cierto cariño por la alianza).
Casi desde el principio, me enfrenté a lo mucho más difícil que era este juego que el minorista. Después de retomar las misiones del área de inicio, fui a matar a algunos lobos y koblods, y por Dios, parecía que les tomó una eternidad morir.
El área de inicio me tomó alrededor de 6 horas en total para salir. ¡Y me encantó! Una de las cosas que odio de la venta al por menor, y con juegos como SWTOR, es que eliminaron la molienda de niveles del juego. Así que no estás realmente obligado a explorar para encontrar misiones para nivelar. En cambio, solo necesitas hacer un puñado de misiones para estar en pareja para la siguiente área.
Pero en Clásico, oh no. ¡Es diferente! ¡Tuve que hacer casi todas las misiones solo para estar unos niveles por debajo de la siguiente área! Lo cual no fue un gran problema, ya que me dio tiempo para subir de nivel mi Minería.
Entonces, como Ret Pally de nivel 10, dejé el área de Goldshire y me dirigí a Westfall. ¡Aquí es donde me dieron el culo! Las primeras misiones que obtuve fueron para matar a algunas turbas, siendo la misión de nivel más bajo para el nivel 12. Tuve que navegar con cuidado hasta donde estaban algunas de las turbas inferiores porque el área estaba llena de Harvest Golems de nivel 15 y otros enemigos que generalmente oscilaban entre el nivel 11 y el 15.
Pude completar algunas misiones, pero mi producción de daños fue horrible y me seguían matando. Llegué a la conclusión de que era por mi armadura. Teniendo una colección decente de mineral de cobre, decidí regresar a la ciudad para hacer algo de herrería.
Aquí es donde tuve una especie de rudo despertar. Mejoré mi herrería lo suficiente como para fabricar un Claymore que reemplazaría mi mazo. El único problema era que necesitaba 1 cuero ligero. Así que me dirigí a la casa de subastas para ver si podía conseguir 1 por un par de monedas de plata... No pude.
1 cuero ligero costaba alrededor de 90 de plata, mientras que un paquete de cuero ligero costaba más de 9 de oro. Entonces yo era SoL, pero luego tuve una idea. Después de crear un nuevo conjunto de armadura, todavía me quedaban dos pilas de barras de cobre. Decidí ver cuánto costaban en el AH y vi que se vendían a 10 g por pila.
Queriendo ganar dinero rápido, enumeré una de mis pilas por 5 de oro y, efectivamente, alguien la compró.
Después de comprar el cuero ligero que necesitaba, elaboré el arma para reemplazar mi maloliente y lento mazo.
Con un nuevo conjunto de equipo pude sobrevivir más de Westfall, aunque para el primer bit todavía tenía que elegir mis objetivos. Una vez que llegué al nivel 13 (que soy ahora) las cosas se volvieron mucho más fáciles. En este momento tengo una misión para matar a dos tipos de saqueadores, de cada uno, y el gran dolor al que me enfrento en este momento es que un tipo son magos, ¡y me atacan con sus bolas de fuego!
Hay una cosa que realmente me sorprendió durante el tiempo que volví a jugar clásico, y fue lo mucho más amigable que era la gente. Más de una vez tuve gente que quería formar equipo conmigo para completar algunas misiones. Incluso tuve un nivel 16 que me ayudó en el nivel 11 para completar algunas misiones que necesitaba hacer para subir de nivel desesperadamente.
Puede sonar estúpido, pero estas cosas me hicieron sonreír. Los últimos días no han sido los mejores (la depresión y el estrés van de la mano a la perfección), así que fue una sensación agradable recibir ayuda.
