Another year, another game to obsess about (and to not finish! just kidding). I just wanted to take a break from Dying Light for now since I haven't really continued playing yet since we got back from vacation (I know). I wanted to play something fun yet not too long of a game and a different genre as well.
I remember @acidyo showed me Cuphead before and I wanted to play it since I like 2d platformers as well. I checked the reviews on Steam and oh my, it got a lot of positive reviews so I gotta check it out.
I'm playing this one on an Xbox controller cos I can't imagine playing this on a keyboard lol. I don't think I've played any 2d platformers on keyboard.
Anyway, this game is popular mostly because of the difficulty. It's dubbed as 'the Dark Souls' of platformers because it's hard lol. Even at the first level it is already difficult.
I honestly don't know how many times I died in this. I played for hours and only completed a few. This is also because I wasn't used to the controller and to the default settings. The default button for dash is Y and in most cases you'll need to shoot continuously while also jumping simultaneously. Having the default controls just makes it extremely difficult to do since you have to lift up your thumb just to press another button. I tried to get used to it but even after hours it's just not working so I changed it anyway.
I was already getting frustrated of the game since I kept on dying and can't beat the boss but the moment I beat them it's just so rewarding. The gameplay is also satisfying cos it's so smooth and addictive, so I just kept on trying again and again.
It is difficult but it is something that you'd want to do again because there are patterns that you can just memorize so it's not completely random and stupid.
I also kept on zoning out a lot and wasn't paying much attention so there was a time I could not understand what to do since I forgot an important detail in the tutorial. I realized it later in the game. :P
It's a really really fun game and I love it.
