Broken Age is not the sort of game I enjoy or wish to dwell on for a long period of time, but there's one thing going for it - the fact that the intro part of the game is quite literally a pun on the title of the game.
Broken Age sees you get into the shoes of a young man (or young woman) of varying maturity levels, voiced by a fairly up-market and well known cast of actors.
The twist? Well, for the young man, he's a space-ship captain being babied by his computer / mother - and it is... well, strange; but it is clear that this is Double Fine (of Psychonauts fame) doing what they want because a whole bunch of people threw money at them to see them do whatever they wanted to do.
And they did that. It is in the spirit of Lucas Arts style adventure games, with gorgeous hand-drawn art, excellent writing, great humour, and a timeless visual style; but to me, the presentation betrayed the deeper themes and meaning hinted at (sometimes cleverly, sometimes buntly) by the game.
It isn't what I look for in a game; and that's okay, not everything is for everyone, but I failed to get engaged into the game. I know its gotten thousands of rave reviews from fans, but interfering with the thought patterns of Double Fine Productions fans is a bit like trying to badmouth Teslas in front of Elon fanboys - you're gonna end up with a headache.
This game isn't for me, but it might be for you or your children. I'm not your boss. Do what you want, but know this: I didn't enjoy, or engage very deeply with this game. Does that make me less than human? You decide.
