I've been enjoying my recent couple of days in Final Fantasy 14... I've almost gotten my Thaumaturge job to 30, I've just picked up Botany, Fishing, and Cooking, and I've spent more time at the casino than I care to admit.
Actually, I did that a lot on my very first playthrough at the start of the year too. I love triple triad, the card game embedded within the actual game, and spending all of my casino gains on acquiring more cards. I also go out into the wild and try to snatch them from NPCs who are playing cards too, but sometimes that's just frustrating.
I defeated Mother Miounne a good fifty times before she finally gave me her card. Wench.

I've just chosen the Grand Company I wish to become a part of - the Immortal Flames - and thanks to that, have just acquired my first mount: the illustrious chocobo!

I vaguely remember handing in event tokens or something to a moogle in order to get a pretty pink wolfie mount, when I last played. I will need to acquire that beautiful beast again on this character since I'm just forgetting the other character even exists.
When the Australian servers come out in coming months, this will be my only character. Goodbye Tonberry, you high-ping'd server.

So far I'm really enjoying the Thaumaturge job. It's fairly simple and you can't really go wrong with it. Although the cast times are a bit... eurgh. Especially with my high ping.
Throw out a lightning to put a DoT on something, fire, fire, fire, fire, shift-magic-to-ice-to-regain-mana, blizzard, blizzard, shift-magic-back-to-fire, throw more fireballs.
Reeeeeeeally simple. I'm assuming it'll get slightly more complex when I turn into a black mage? Maybe? Not that I really care about complexity. I care about ease and enjoyment of play.

Because I started as a Thaumaturge this time around instead of an Archer, I started in Ul'dah instead of Gridania. And I have to say that the story makes so much more sense this way.
For example, with this start you meet Thancred pretty much right off the bat so your character should feel more friendly with him thus more horrified later on when it turns out he's the bad guy. From what I vaguely remember.
My partner has been playing some expansion content too whilst I've been dabbling with my new character, and from what I've been overhearing the Sultana is heavily involved - more Ul'dah stuff that a character would probably care slightly less about if they originated in Gridania or in the pirate lands.

My personal goal at the moment is to reach the next stage of the Thaumaturge questline, which will then lead me on to the path of becoming a Black Mage, and then I'll focus on diddling about with other jobs.
An entire day of fishing and gathering botanical resources sounds like a grand idea!

Also... I may have indulged just before.

I was sick of my character looking dowdy when everyone else was shiny. So. I may or may not have browsed the store for something nice that suited my person. And then I may or may not have used my Aesthetician ticket for a quick make over!

I now fit in with everyone else! xD
Yes, I know that's more of a matrimonial frame.
No, I don't really care; it's pretty.
(I love photo mode. MOAR GAMES. PHOTO MODE. DEVELOPERS PLZ LISTEN.)
