I recently discovered an indie video game on Steam called NETHER HEROES, which is heavily inspired by Minecraft visually, with practically all of its enemies and environments being pixel art versions of Minecraft elements. Its mechanics and objective are interesting and fun, with certain roguelike elements, although it also has the peculiarity of losing things when you die. However, it still feels like you are playing a copy of Minecraft.
The objective of this video game seems simple: an ancient adventurer gave in to the temptation of evil, and now the world seems to be full of enemies and evil, so our character must venture into different games to try to defeat all the enemies and put an end to evil. This video game has the mechanics of roguelike runs, where as we play and die, we can gradually gain more power to get further in each game, although we also have the downside that if we die, we lose our equipment, causing the next game to have the same difficulty.
The controls seem fairly simple: the typical movement controls, a jump, a somersault to dodge attacks, and an action button to collect objects or interact with the elements we obtain in each game. With the mouse, we can attack with our weapon and also block with our shield, although the shield has a recharge period once you block an attack, so if there are several enemies or very fast attacks, you will not be able to block them all. We have life hearts, where basic enemies cause us half a heart of damage and larger enemies or explosions cause us one heart of damage.
Each game starts at the surface level and we go deeper and deeper into the caves. At each level, the enemies that appear are random, so they will not always be the same enemies or the same number of enemies. We can also find traps throughout the levels that can be used to eliminate enemies, as well as chests with items or gold coins. Each time we defeat an enemy, it drops gold coins that we can use in the next game. They can also drop items such as a bone that can be used as a weapon, although we can only carry one weapon at a time. Each weapon's attack varies in both speed and range, so some weapons may be more comfortable to use than others.
Before starting a new game, before leaving the base, there is a shop that will sell us three items. These items seem to be random in each new game and will be a weapon, a shield, and armor. Some armor has quite useful effects, such as increasing health or giving us the ability to regenerate, which automatically recovers half a heart every so often. We buy these items with gold coins, although the downside is that when you die, you lose the items you have purchased and your character appears with the basic items. However, if you have enough gold, you can buy items again in the shop.
Every few levels, we will face a boss. As is customary in roguelike titles, your first battles against bosses are certain deaths. You don't know their attack patterns, and if you didn't manage to arrive with a good amount of health and strong enough items to ensure you can cause great damage or resist enemy attacks, you will practically be unable to defeat the boss. Personally, I managed to reach the first boss a couple of times, but I always arrived with very little health, meaning that practically the first blow I received ended the adventure and I had to start over from the beginning and go through all the levels to the boss.
Another interesting aspect is that we also have different skins to use, all with their own unique pixel art style. However, the most notable aspect, although it's precisely for the worse, are the bugs. You can expect an indie title to have some glitches, but in NETHER HEROES it's surprising how often there are bugs when you want to make a change in the options, such as changing the resolution. Even when you enter the menu to change the skin, you get stuck in a bug where there is no button to go back. You can change the skin, but the game won't let you go back, and you are forced to close the game window. Despite everything, it's entertaining enough to distract you for a while.

Un aspecto que siempre ha sido un poco cuestionable en los videojuegos, así como también en otras cosas es la Inspiración, que tanto puede inspirarse alguna obra en otra anterior, tener enfoques, mecánicas o estilos visuales parecidos, pero sin poder considerarse como una copia de la misma. Hace poco descubrí un videojuego Indie en Steam llamado NETHER HEROES el cual tiene una enorme inspiración visual en Minecraft en donde prácticamente todos sus enemigos y entornos son versiones Pixelart de los elementos de Minecraft, su mecánica y objetivo son interesantes y resultan divertidos al tener ciertos elementos Roguelike aunque también con la peculiaridad de perder las cosas al morir, aunque no deja de sentirse como si estuvieras jugando una versión copia de Minecraft.
El objetivo de este videojuego parece sencillo, un antiguo aventurero cedió ante la tentación del mal y ahora todo el mundo parece estar repleto de enemigos y maldad por lo cual nuestro personaje debe aventurarse en diferentes partidas para tratar de derrotar a todos los enemigos y poner fin al mal. Este videojuego tiene la mecánica de Runs de los roguelike en donde a medida que vayamos jugando y muriendo podremos conseguir poco a poco mas poder para de esta manera conseguir llegar mas lejos en cada partida, aunque también tenemos la negativa de que en caso de morir perdemos nuestro equipo provocando que la siguiente partida tenga igual su dificultad.
Los controles parecen bastante sencillos, los controles de movimiento típicos, un salto, una voltereta para esquivar ataques, un botón de acción para recoger objetos o interactuar con los elementos que consigamos en cada partida. Con el mouse podemos atacar con nuestra arma y también bloquear con nuestro escudo, aunque el mismo tiene un periodo de recarga una vez bloqueas un ataque por lo cual si son varios enemigos o ataques muy rápidos no podrás bloquearlos todos, contamos con corazones de vida en donde los enemigos básicos nos causan medio corazón de daño y los enemigos mas grandes o las explosiones nos causan un corazón de daño.
Cada partida comienza desde el nivel de la superficie y vamos entrando cada vez mas profundo en las cuevas, en cada nivel los enemigos que aparecen son de forma aleatoria por lo cual no siempre serán los mismos enemigos ni la misma cantidad de enemigos, también podemos encontrar por los niveles tanto trampas que nos pueden servir para eliminar a los enemigos, como también cofres con objetos o monedas de oro, cada vez que derrotamos a un enemigos este nos suelta monedas de oro que nos servirán para la próxima partida. También nos pueden soltar objetos como un hueso que se puede usar de arma, aunque solamente podemos cargar un arma a la vez, al ataque de cada arma varia tanto en su velocidad como en su rango por lo cual puede haber armas más cómodas de usar que otras.
Antes de comenzar una nueva partida antes de salir de la base tenemos una tienda que nos venderá tres objetos , estos objetos parecen ser aleatorios en cada nueva partida y estos serán un arma, un escudo y una armadura, algunas armaduras tienen efectos bastante útiles como aumentar la salud o darnos la habilidad de regeneración la cual cada cierto tiempo nos recupera de forma automática medio corazón, estos objetos los compramos con las monedas de oro aunque la una negativa es que al morir pierdes los objetos que habías comprado y tu personaje aparece con los objetos básicos, aunque si tienes suficiente oro puedes volver a comprar objetos en la tienda.
Cada cierta cantidad de niveles nos enfrentaremos a un Jefe, como suele ser costumbre en los títulos roguelike tus primeras batallas contra los jefes son muertes aseguradas, no conoces sus patrones de ataques y si no lograste llegar con una buena cantidad de salud y objetos bastante fuertes que te aseguren causar gran daño o resistir bastante los ataques enemigos, prácticamente no podrás derrotar al jefe, en lo personal logre llegar un par de veces al primer jefe pero siempre llegaba con muy poca salud haciendo que prácticamente al primer golpe que recibía se terminaba la aventura y debía volver a comenzar desde el principio y recorrer todos los niveles hasta el jefe.
Otro aspecto interesante es que también contamos con diferentes Skins para utilizar, todas con su estilo pixelart peculiar, aunque el aspecto que más resalta, aunque precisamente lo hace para mal son los Bug, se puede esperar que un titulo Indie pueda tener algunos fallos, pero en NETHER HEROES es sorprendente como suelen haber bugs cuando quieres hacer algún cambio en las opciones como cambiar la resolución, incluso al entrar al menú para cambiar de Skin te quedas atrapado en un Bug donde no hay un botón para regresar, puedes cambiar la Skin pero el juego no te deja retroceder y te vez obligado a cerrar la ventana del videojuego, a pesar de todo resulta entretenido para distraerte un rato.
