Although they are no longer as common as they were in the 80s and 90s, shoot 'em up video games are still popular among their fans, and we can even find modern titles that recreate this old but iconic mechanic, albeit with some additional features or slightly different mechanics to give the adventure more variety. Sky Racket is a video game that was available for free on the Epic Store for a while, and after trying it out, I must say that it evokes a slight feeling of nostalgia combined with colorful and eye-catching visual styles, as well as combining the agility to dodge enemy attacks necessary in any Shoot 'em up with the precision to attack at the right moment.
The theme of Sky Racket is quite peculiar. We must go through different levels where we even pass through what appear to be different planets, all with our protagonist, who can be a boy or a girl wearing a sports suit, a helmet similar to a space helmet, and most importantly, their favorite weapon, a tennis racket. We must use this super racket to hit enemy projectiles and defeat them, while dodging multiple projectiles that cannot be returned, a peculiar mechanic.
The controls in Sky Racket are quite simple: the typical four-way movement controls of a side-scrolling shoot 'em up game, a control to hit with the racket, a button to roll that allows us to move a little faster, although while rolling we cannot hit with the racket and it does not grant us invulnerability, so we cannot use it to dodge attacks. Instead, we must dodge all projectiles simply by moving. There is also a button to use the special ability of one of the possible pets or aids that we can obtain throughout the adventure.
The enemies and all the visual aspects of Sky Racket are quite peculiar and striking. Many enemies have cubic appearances, while others are shaped like animals or similar creatures. The mechanics of hitting projectiles with your racket reminded me a lot of typical brick breaker games, an interesting mix between both styles of play. There is also the typical combo counter, although it does not seem to provide any benefit in the adventure. The projectiles that you can return with your racket are clearly different from those that you cannot, so there are not many problems with taking hits thinking that you could return an attack, However, you can end up taking hits by hitting too early and missing the enemy projectile, which then hits you.
Our character's health is based on hearts. We have three hearts, although in most cases each enemy hit only takes away half a heart of health, so you could consider that we have 6 health points. Every certain number of levels, we face a boss level which will have a large amount of health, and complicated attack patterns where it can easily cover a large part of the screen with its attacks, increasing the difficulty and making it impossible for you to dodge all of its attacks. One advantage is that there is a period of invulnerability after taking a hit. It is not a very long time, but it can help you get out of an area full of projectiles without losing all your health in an instant. We can also get levels with mini-bosses at the end, and although they may not be as complicated as bosses, having to face them after an extensive level can make them much more difficult than a boss.

In each world, we can get a creature or pet that helps us in the levels, although it may be a very brief help and in most cases we will not have it. We can ask each pet to accompany us, but only one can accompany us at a time. From time to time, its ability is charged, and each pet has different abilities, from attacking enemies to generating a very brief shield. The downside is that the first time we take a hit, we lose the pet and have to wait for it to randomly appear in a level and rescue it in order to use its ability again, although the fact that we lose it when it takes damage means that we often find it useless. In the end, Sky Racket is a modern title with many nostalgic touches that can be a lot of fun.

Aunque ya no sean tan frecuente como en la década de los 80´y 90´, los videojuegos Shoot 'em up siguen siendo populares entre sus fanáticos e incluso podemos encontrar títulos modernos que recrean esta antigua pero icónica mecánica, aunque con algunos aspectos adicionales o mecánicas un poco diferente para darle una mayor variedad a la aventura. Sky Racket se trata de un videojuego que hace un tiempo estuvo gratuito en la Epic Store y luego de probarlo debo decir que te genera una ligera sensación de nostalgia combinada con estilos visuales coloridos y llamativos, además de combinar la agilidad para esquivar ataques de los enemigos necesaria en todo Shoot 'em up junto con la precisión para atacar en el momento justo.
Le temática de Sky Racket es bastante peculiar, deberemos ir recorriendo diferentes niveles en donde incluso pasamos por lo que parece diferentes planetas, todo esto con nuestro protagonista que puede ser un chico o una chica quien cuenta con un traje deportivo, un casco similar a los espaciales y lo más importante su arma predilecta, una raqueta de tenis. Deberemos usar esta super raqueta para poder golpear los proyectiles enemigos y de esa manera derrotarlos, al mismo tiempo de esquivar múltiples proyectiles que no se pueden devolver, una mecánica peculiar.
Los controles de Sky Racket son bastante sencillos, los típicos controles de movimiento en las cuatro direcciones de un juego Shoot 'em up de scroll lateral, un control para golpear con la raqueta, un botón para rodar que nos permite movernos un poco más rápido aunque mientras rodamos no podemos golpear con la raqueta y tampoco nos otorga invulnerabilidad por lo cual no la podemos usar para esquivar ataques y en su lugar todos los proyectiles los debemos esquivar simplemente moviéndonos, también hay un botón para usar la habilidad especial de una de las posibles mascotas o ayudas que podemos conseguir por la aventura.
Los enemigos y todos los aspectos visuales de Sky Racket son bastante peculiares y llamativos, muchos enemigos tienen aspectos cúbicos y otros con formas de animales o parecidos. La mecánica de golpear los proyectiles con tu raqueta me recordó bastante a los típicos juegos brick breake, una mezcla interesante entre ambos estilos de juego, además hay el típico contador de combos, aunque parece que no aporta algún beneficio en la aventura, los proyectiles que si puedes devolver con tu raqueta se diferencian claramente de los que no por lo cual no hay muchos problemas por recibir golpes pensando que podías devolver un ataque, pero si puedes terminar recibiendo golpes por golpear antes de tiempo y fallar el proyectil enemigo para que luego te golpee.
La salud de nuestro personaje se basa en corazones, contamos con tres corazones aunque en la mayoría de los casos cada impacto enemigo solo nos resta medio corazón de salud por lo cual se podría considerar que tenemos 6 puntos de salud, cada cierta cantidad de niveles nos enfrentamos a un nivel de jefe el cual tendrá una gran cantidad de salud, patrones de ataques complicados en donde fácilmente puede cubrir gran parte de la pantalla con sus ataques aumentando la dificultad y provocando que no logres esquivar todos sus ataques, un ventaja es que existe un tiempo de invulnerabilidad luego de recibir un impacto, no es un tiempo muy extenso pero te puede ayudar a salir de una zona repleta de proyectiles sin perder toda la salud en un solo instante. También podemos conseguir niveles con Mini jefe al final del mismo y aunque puede no ser tan complicado como los jefes, el hecho de tener que enfrentarlo luego de un extenso nivel puede hacer que resulta mucho más difícil que un jefe.

En cada mundo podemos conseguir una criatura o mascota que nos ayuda en los niveles, aunque puede resultar una ayuda muy breve y en la mayoría de los casos no contáremos con ella. Podemos pedirle a cada mascota que nos acompañe, pero solo nos puede acompañar una a la vez, cada cierto tiempo se carga su habilidad y cada mascota tiene habilidades diferentes, desde atacar a los enemigos como generar un escudo muy breve, el aspecto negativo es que al primer golpe que recibamos perdemos la mascota y debemos esperar a que salga de forma aleatoria en un nivel y rescatarla para poder volver a usar su habilidad, aunque con el aspecto de perderla al recibir daño provoca que muchas veces no le encuentres utilidad. Al final Sky Racket es un titulo modernos con muchos toques de nostalgia y que puede resultar muy divertido.
