Hello Hive Gaming folks! Today I'm back with another part of Assassin's Creed Black Flag, but let me tell youâthere were no glorious boardings or islands full of buried treasure this time. This journey at sea was more of a quiet but necessary update for Edward and his loyal ship, the Jackdaw. I dedicated myself entirely to gathering the materials so badly needed to craft upgrades, customize the ship, and get ready for future battles that will no doubt be even more intense.
Sailing with no fixed course but with clear objectives, I suddenly found myself being chased by one of those annoying pirate huntersâcorsair ships flying red flags that scream trouble. Since I wasnât yet prepared for a full-scale confrontation, I chose a strategic retreat. And hereâs where the game gifted me one of those technical gems I love so much: it turns out that if you dock at a port while being pursued, the enemy ship simply stops, lowers its sails⊠but doesnât disappear.
And what did I do? I dove into the water, swam like my life depended on it, and reached the enemy ship to face them in hand-to-hand combat. To be honest, fighting this way is much easier than in the heat of a proper boardingânot to take any credit away from the combat, but the enemy AI gets a bit clumsy in those situations. And well, since the ship was stationary, it was a piece of cake.
Still, I was left with the nagging thought of not being able to take the helm of that ship. I donât know if the developers figured itâd be impossible without a crew or if they purposely left that feature out, but it wouldâve been amazing to hijack another vessel and use it, even just for a while. After swimming back to my shipâyes, swimming again, as if Edward were some kind of Olympic athleteâI set course once more.
On the island where I had initially docked, some pirates were under attack. I jumped into the fight, saved them, and in gratitude, they joined my crew. Not bad at all. With the Jackdaw ready, I took the helm and headed toward the area where the humpback whale roams. But of course, that corsair ship I had dodged earlier was still around, and curiosity got the better of meâI fired a broadside just to see what would happen. That was enough to trigger the boarding... and since there were no enemies aboard, everything happened automatically. Thanks for the assist, game, haha.
That allowed me to lower my wanted level without much effort. Along the way, I captured a few more ships, gathered resources, and made a strategic stop in Tulum. There, I hunted crocodiles and jaguars. With their hides, I crafted holster #4 (I now carry three pistols) and upgraded Edwardâs health. Now, I truly feel ready to hunt that humpback whale, in a mission that already feels like a scene straight out of Moby Dick.
It wasn't an epic day in terms of storytelling, but it was key to strengthening the character and fine-tuning the experience for what's to come. Sometimes, even at sea, maintenance days count too.
Until the next wind, corsairs.
