Hace unos dos meses subí una reseña personal de la primera parte de este increíble juego de Naughty Dog, (si quieren verla hagan click aquí) y les prometí que hablaría de la parte II apesar de que sé que la mayoría de personas la odiaron, pero a mí me pasó todo lo contrario; la amé. Así que hoy quiero compartir con ustedes las razones por las cuáles no estoy de acuerdo con los haters de esta maravilloso juego que tuvo su lanzamiento el año pasado. ¡Espero que les guste!
Around 2 months ago I shared with you a personal review of the first part of this incredible Naughty Dog game, (if you want to see it click here, and I promised to you that I would talk about the part II even though I know many people hated it, but I feel the opposite; I loved it. So today I want to share with you the reasons why I do not agree with those haters of this amazing game released last year. Hope you like it!
Primero hablemos de las críticas mientras respondo a estas con mis argumentos, ¿por qué fue tan odiado por muchos?
First of all let's talk about the critics while I answer to this with my thoughts, why was it so hated by so many?
La mayoría de críticas se resumen en que el juego trata una temática social que según ellos no debería, ya que en esta segunda parte dejan más que claro que Ellie no es heterosexual, y el argumento de los haters es que es innecesario añadir este tipo de escenas en un juego y que lo hicieron "forzosamente" para complacer al mundo de la "inclusión".
Most criticism are summarized in people who think that the game shows some social themes that it should not, because in this second part the game clarifies that Ellie is not heterosexual, and the argument of haters is that it was not necessary to add this kind of scenes in the game and that it was "forcibly" made to please the world of "inclusion".
¿Qué pienso de esto? Pues la mayoría de esas críticas negativas no fueron objetivas, sino homofóbicas, porque en algunos países prohibieron el juego por tener escenas románticas entre personajes homosexuales, entonces ¿por qué lo prohíben por esta razón y no porque el juego entero es extremadamente violento? ¿cómo pueden considerar eso peor que la violencia y la sangre? No, no tiene sentido. Además, ¿acaso no jugaron The Last of Us: Left Behind? en esa corta secuela, que fue lanzada en 2014, cuando aún el tema de la inclusión no estaba generando tanto impacto, dejaron claro que Ellie sintió atracción por otra niña, quien fue su primer beso, de hecho. Así que no, no fue "inclusión", simplemente es un personaje humano y con sentimientos.
What do I think of this? A big part of this negative "reviews" were not objective but homophobic, because the game was banned in some countries due to its romantics scenes between homosexual characters, so why did they ban it for this reason and not because the whole game is extremely violent? How can they consider this worse than violence and blood? No, it just does not make any sense. Furthermore, didn't they play The Last of Us: Left Behind? Because in that short sequel released in 2014, when these stuff with inclusion were not so popular, the game shows that Ellie felt attracted to other girl, who was actually her first kiss ever. So don't, it was not "inclusion", this is about a human character with feelings.

- Se quejaron de la muerte del personaje favorito de muchos, Joel, y de que nos hicieran empatizar con Abby, la que lo asesinó de una manera brutal. En este punto es donde digo, si quieren que la trama se desarrolle como ustedes quieren ¿por qué se molestan en consumir contenido creativo? Se supone que la experiencia consiste en sorprendernos de las cosas que van pasando mientras vamos jugando. Además, dentro de la ficción debe haber un poco de lógica para que todo sea "creíble", y por eso no entiendo cómo a tantas personas les sorprende que muriera de esa manera un personaje que traficaba armas, mató a tantos inocentes y condenó a la humanidad entera quitándoles la posible cura. Sería más menos que no tenga enemigos en el mundo y que siempre sea indestructible, ¿no creen?
There were complains about the death of the favorite character of many, Joel, and some others because they want us to empathize with Abby, who murdered him in a horrible way. In this point I tell you, if you want the plot to develop as you want, why do you take your time to consume creative content? It is supposed that the experience consists of surprising us with events that happen while we are moving forward. Besides, within fiction and all I think it should be more logic in order to make the story "realistic", and this is why I do not get why so many people are surprised of the way Joel's death was executed, I mean he was a character who trafficked weapons, he killed innocent people and he condemned humanity by taking away the possible cure. It would be less realistic if he were indestructible and he would not have some enemies, don't you think so?

Cabe destacar que el juego dura 12 horas, y estas críticas negativas comenzaron a viralizarse cuando aún no tenía 12 horas de ser lanzado, así que la mayoría de estas vinieron de personas con la mente muy cuadrada que no habían terminado de jugarlo o que lo vieron a través de streams, es decir, ni siquiera lo jugaron. Incluso tengo un ejemplo muy claro, le dije a un amigo que lo iba a jugar porque me lo prestaron y su respuesta fue: "no lo juegues, es muy malo, no vale la pena", seguidamente le pregunté si ya lo había jugado y su respuesta fue: "no, pero vi las críticas y casi todas son negativas". ¿Qué opinan? Sé que seguramente hay personas con argumentos sólidos a las que no les gustó el juego, pero tenemos que aceptar que la mayoría de haters son como mi amigo.
You must know that the game lasts 12 hours, and this negative reviews started going viral before its 12 hours of released, so a big part of these critics came from close minded people who had not reached the end of the game or watched through streams, so they did not even play it. I also have a clear example, I told a friend that I was going to play it and his answer was: "don't play it, it is pretty bad, it isn't worth it", so I asked him if he had already played it and he told me: "no, but I saw some critics and almost all of them al negatives". What do you think about it? I know there are people who disliked the game and have solid arguments, but it is time to accept that most haters are like my friend.
Ahora sí, ¿por qué me gustó tanto el juego?
So now I will tell you why did I like so much the game?
Jugabilidad - Playability
Los controles cambiaron un poco en relación a la primera parte, y es algo completamente lógico ya que esta vez no jugamos con Joel, sino con Ellie, quien no tiene las mismas condiciones físicas, y es algo que se nota cuando juegas. Incluso cuando jugamos con Abby se siente diferente, porque esta es más rápida, pero menos sigilosa. Debido a estos cambios hay nuevos mecanismos, en este podemos arrastrarnos por el suelo y además podemos esquivar a nuestros enemigos en medio de combates cuerpo a cuerpo. Pero también nuestros enemigos son mucho más inteligentes y peligrosos que en el juego anterior, así que nuevamente la agilidad y la astucia a la hora de jugar son herramientas claves.
The controls changed a little related to the first part, and it is something completely logic because we are not playing with Joel but with Ellie, who does not have the same physical conditions, and it is something noticeable when you are playing. Even when we play with Abby it feels different because she is faster but less stealth. Due to these changes there are new mechanisms, now we can crawl on the ground and we can dodge our enemies in close combat. But our enemies are also more dangerous and smarter than the previous game, so the agility and cunning are key tools again.
Visibilidad - The view
Está entre los juegos con mejores gráficos hasta el momento, tiene una cantidad de detalles en los diferentes escenarios que hace que quieras explorarlo todo. Nuevamente nos muestra la belleza de lo abandonado, pero también la escenografía e iluminación de los momentos tenebrosos está tan bien hechas que pueden hacernos sentir sensaciones nada agradables.
This is one of the games with the best graphics till the moment, it has so many details in the different scenarios that it makes you want to explore everything. It shows us again the beauty within the chaos, but also the scenography and illumination in gloomy moments are so well done that make us feel unpleasant sensations.
Personajes - Characters
A pesar de que muchos criticaron el desarrollo de personajes a mí me parece uno de sus puntos fuertes, el cambio que hay en los personajes desde el principio hasta el final es drástico, pues a lo largo de la historia es inevitable no conectarse con sus emociones si todo lo vivimos a través de sus ojos.
Some critics talked about the characters development but I really think that this is one of the strongest points of the game, the change that the character experiment from the beginning to the end is drastic, because throughout the history is unavoidable not connecting with their feelings since we live everything through their eyes.

Abby: Sí, al principio es duro empatizar con ella después de que matara a Joel, pero a medida de que vamos avanzando en la historia mientras la controlamos entendemos muchas cosas de su pasado, nos muestran que era muy unida con su padre, revivimos constantemente su muerte mediante flashbacks, literalmente nos ponemos en su lugar y ahora sabemos por qué pasó tanto tiempo buscando a Joel para matarlo. Él estaba haciendo grandes contribuciones a la humanidad en busca de la cura, y de repente un hombre desconocido lo mató, siendo él inocente. Además, Abby siempre cuida a los suyos y ayuda a los demás.
Abby: Yes, at the beginning is hard to empathize with her after she killed Joel, but while we are moving forward controlling her we understand many things about her past, they showed us that she had a stretch relationship with her father, we constantly revive his death through flashbacks, we are literally on her feet and we understand we already know why she spent so many time looking for Joel to kill him. He was making great contributions to humanity finding out the cure, and suddenly an unknown man appeared and killed him, being an innocent. Furthermore, Abby always looks after her people and helps others.
Ellie: Ya le tenemos cariño desde el juego anterior, ahora vivimos su sufrimiento con ella, en especial al ver que ni siquiera tuvo tiempo de despedirse de la persona que más amaba y admiraba en el mundo. Luego queremos ayudarla a proteger a las personas que tanto le importan a toda costa, porque al igual que Abby, tiene sus razones para desear una venganza.
Ellie: We already have an affection for her since the previous game, now we live her hurt with her, specially because we know that she could not say goodbye to the person she loved and admired the most in the world. After this we want to help her to protect each person she cares about at all costs, because just like Abby, she has her reasons to wish a revenge.

Trama - Plot
Hay innumerables quejas de que convirtieron la historia en una novela solo porque agregaron romance y mucho drama. Yo pienso que una de las cosas que diferencia a este juego de los demás es el hecho de que Naughty Dog quiere que de verdad nos sintamos parte de este mundo, y esto lo logran por medio de experiencias, ¿cómo te sientes parte de un mundo en el que no entiendes los sentimientos y las vivencias de los personajes que manejas o con los que interactúas? Siendo realistas en medio de la ficción, es inevitable que una persona no trate de vivir su vida, es imposible que deje de tener sentimientos y que quiera sentirse humano de vez en cuando, especialmente cuando esta generación de personajes no ha conocido nada más, eso no significa que no puedan tener intereses. No se trata solo de matar "zombies" y ya. A veces encontramos en la trama pequeños rayitos de luz y tenemos que vivirlos para entender mejor la crueldad de ese universo, el cual es realista al plantearnos tantas situaciones que pueden llegar a parecer una "novela".
There are countless complains about the plot being turned into a "soup opera" because they added some romance and drama. I think one of the things that makes this game different from others is that Naughty Dog really wants us to feel ourselves part of that world, and they manage this adding experiences, how could you feel part of a world in which you can not understand the feelings and experiences of the characters you play or interact with? Being realistic within fiction, having people trying to live their lives is unavoidable, not having feelings is something impossible, they eventually should wish to feel like humans, especially if this new generation of characters have not known anything else, it does not mean that they can not have hobbies. It is not all about killing "zombies". Sometimes we find some light in the plot and we have to experience it to understand better the cruelty of that universe, which is realistic with these situations that seem like a "soup opera".
El tema central es la venganza, y eso no quiere decir que moralmente sea algo bueno, pero es un sentimiento que no está alejado de la realidad, estamos hablando de personas que han crecido con muchos traumas, no son personas emocionalmente estables, su realidad es diferente, están acostumbrados a la violencia desde que nacieron, tienen ataques de ira más fuertes y en medio de este contexto lo más normal es que sean capaces de viajar por todo un país con un solo objetivo: vengarse, aunque esto implique sumergirse en una aventura tan peligrosa. ¿Cómo podríamos identificarnos con un mundo tan ajeno al nuestro si no añaden drama?
The main theme is the revenge, and it does not mean that it is not morally wrong, but it is a feeling which is not far away of reality, we are talking about people who have grown with traumas, they are not emotionally stable, their reality is different, they are use to violence since their are children, they have hardest fits of anger and taking into consideration the context it is normal if they are able to travel the entire country with one goal: the revenge, even though this means pungle into a dangerous adventure. How could we identify ourselves with a world some different to our if there is no drama?
Los enemigos - The enemies
Esta parte aún conserva sus viejas amenazas, pero por supuesto que quisieron aumentar su dificultad añadiendo nuevos enemigos más difíciles de derrotar.
This part still keeps its old threats, but of course they wanted to increase the difficulty level by adding new enemies and this time is more difficult to beat them.
Los serafitas o "scars": Son grupos de religiosos que viven usualmente en los bosques, tienen cicatrices en sus caras y no usan armas de fuego, pero son sumamente ágiles con arco y flecha y muy peligrosos porque siempre andan en grupos grandes.
Seraphites or scars: They are religious groups that usually live in forests, they have scars in their faces and do not use firearms, but they are incredibly agile with bow and arrow, and very dangerous because they are always in big groups.
Los perros: Los humanos enemigos apodados Los Lobos no solo cuentan con muchas armas de fuego, ahora también los acompañan perros que son rápidos y en cuestión de minutos pueden rastrear tu ubicación, así que esconderse por mucho tiempo ya no es una opción, porque los perros son rápidos y difíciles de matar, y siempre andan con grupos grandes de humanos.
Dogs: Human enemies called Wolves do not only have firearms, they also are accompanied by dogs and these can track your location in just one moment, so hiding for a long time it is not an option anymore, because dogs are fast and strong, so killing them is hard, and they are always in big groups with humans.
Los acechadores: Un nuevo tipo de infectados que tienen como especialidad el sigilo, así que son más inteligentes, mucho más fuertes y rápidos, y por supuesto, más difíciles de matar. Normalmente te das cuenta de que te rodean porque escuchas sus rugidos, pero es difícil verlos a simple vista.
Stalkers: These are new types of infected which have the stealth as their special ability, so they are smarter and much more stronger and faster, of course it is harder to kill them. You usually realize they are around you because you can hear their roars, but it is difficult to see them with the naked eye.

Los tambaleantes: Muy similares a los gordinflones pero su capa de hongos es más exagerada y es más peligroso acercarse porque tienen nubes de esporas mucho más tóxicas.
Shamblers: They are similar to bloaters buy their mushroom layer is more exaggerated so it is more dangerous to have them close, because they have big clouds of spores and these are more toxic.
El rey rata: Sin duda el más terrorífico de todos, es una especie de gordinflón compuesto también por chasqueadores y acechadores, todo en un solo cuerpo, esto lo hace más grande y lento, pero más fuerte y peligroso. Matarlo fue un reto para mí, en especial porque el contexto hizo que mis manos estuvieran temblando todo el tiempo.
The rat king: This is the scariest without any doubts, this is a kind of bloater and it is also composed by stalkers and clickers, all in one body, so it is bigger and slower, but stronger and more dangerous. Killing it was a challenge to me, especially because the context makes my hands shake all the time.

Banda sonora - Soundtrack
Nuevamente Gustavo Santaolalla participó en esta, así como también incluyeron cover de canciones reconocidas, pero muy al estilo de The Last of Us, lo cual hace la banda sonora inolvidable. Tengo en mente hacer cover de estas canciones en el violín, siento que lo valen, así que ¡estén atentos!
Gustavo Santaolalla took part in this one too, but they also included cover from some recognized songs, but with a The Last of Us style, of course, and this is why the soundtrack is so unforgettable. I am thinking in making a cover of these songs soon on my violin, I feel like they are worth it, so stay tuned!
