I'm sure many of you have already heard about what a mod is, but for those of you who haven't, I'll explain it quickly. So, in a nutshell, a mod is a modification created by fans for a specific video game, these can be as simple as changing the costume of our protagonist, up to being so elaborate that they could be confused as part of the official game.
With all that explained I think I can move on to the point I want to address.

We have all come to try a mod in our life, usually when we have already completed a video game in order to be able to experience in a much more optimal way all the changes they bring us.
As I have already mentioned, such changes can be simple like the typical mod that changes the appearance of some things, better known as "Skin mods". Generally they usually cover things like costumes, armor, weapons, etc. Although other times users often create little gems like this one:

Then we also have the mods that usually modify some graphical aspect of the games in order to make them look better, or give a completely different look to their visual section. I think one of the best known examples of this is Skyrim.
And last but not least, we have those mods that add totally new content to a game, and by new I mean NEW. You may be wondering what kind of content I'm talking about, and to answer that I'll tell you everything you can imagine.
Weapons, characters, missions, maps, levels, mechanics, and even completely different stories are just some of the things that this type of mods can give us. These are the best known because they allow us to enjoy a totally different experience from the one that the base game can offer us. And you know what the best thing is? You can get all this for free because they are created by users out of pure love for their favorite video games, without any profit motive.
Dude, have you ever gone to a Minecraft mod page? They have a ton of mods that add new things to the game that make you wonder if what you're seeing is something made by a user or if Mojang is secretly creating unofficial mods for their own game XD.

It is well known that a videogame is nothing without its community, because it is the users who are in charge of playing it, which may sound super obvious but it is much more important than it may sound at first, after all you can create the most perfect title that exists, but if there is no one to play it do not expect much recognition from people.

Let's look at games like GTA San Andreas. As a tremendous game it already has a huge amount of things to do, but with mods all that is multiplied, giving you a reason to play it once again.

It's a demo of a simple rhythm game but users have dedicated themselves to creating elaborate mods to it, adding new songs and characters that could very well pass as official content.

Todos hemos llegado a probar un mod en nuestra vida, generalmente cuando ya hemos completado un videojuego con el fin de poder experimentar de una manera mucho más óptima todos los cambios que nos traen.
Como ya he mencionado, dichos cambios pueden ser simples como el típico mod que le cambia la apariencia a algunas cosas, mejor conocidos como "Skin mods". Generalmente suelen abarcar cosas como los trajes, la armadura, armas, etc. Aunque otras veces los usuarios suelen crear joyitas como esta:

Armas, personajes, misiones, mapas, niveles, mecánicas, e incluso historias completamente distintas son solo algunas de las cosas que pueden brindarnos este tipo de mods. Estos son de los más conocidos debido a que nos permiten disfrutar de una experiencia totalmente diferente de la que nos puede ofrecer el juego base. ¿Y sabes que es lo mejor? Que todo eso lo puedes conseguir de manera gratis debido a que son creados por usuarios por puro amor a sus videojuegos favoritos, sin fines de lucro.
Amigo, ¿Alguna vez has entrado a alguna página de mods de Minecraft? Tienen una cantidad de mods que añaden cosas nuevas al juego que te hacen preguntarte si lo que estás viendo es algo hecho por un usuario o si los de Mojang en secreto se la pasan creando mods no oficiales para su propio juego XD.

Entonces, hemos visto que un mod es una modificación que le añade contenido al juego, eso está muy bonito y todo, ¿Pero por que es la comunidad de mods importante para los videojuegos?
Bueno, sabemos que los títulos cuentan con un tiempo de vida limitado, el cual es directamente proporcional a la cantidad de cosas que este nos pueda llegar a ofrecer. Es lógico si lo piensas, un juego que tenga un montón de zonas por explorar te va a tomar más tiempo de completar al 100% que otro que tenga menos escenarios.
¿Con los mods? Contenido ilimitado.
Es bien sabido que un videojuego no es nada sin su comunidad, pues son los usuarios quienes se encargan de jugarlo, lo cual puede sonar super obvio pero es muchísimo más importante de lo que puede sonar en un principio, después de todo tu puedes llegar a crear el titulo más perfecto que exista, pero es que si no hay nadie que lo juegue no esperes mucho reconocimiento de parte de la gente.
Es por esto que cuando un videojuego cuenta con una base de fans bastante dedicada, los mods se vuelven algo bastante común.
Miremos a juegos como GTA San Andreas. Como tremendo juegazo que es este ya cuenta con una cantidad de cosas por hacer bastante grande, pero con los mods todo eso se multiplica, dándote una razón para jugarlo una vez más.
¿Otro ejemplo? Minecraft. Tienes cosas tan simples como los paquetes de textura que cambian el apartado visual de todo lo que te puedas encontrar en este cúbico mundo, hasta modificaciones que añaden mazmorras, armas, y jefes totalmente nuevos que te invitarán a jugar con el fin de descubrir todo lo nuevo.
Demonios, incluso Friday Night funkin' es un gran ejemplo de como una comunidad puede mantener un juego que ni si quiera está completo a flote. Se trata de una demo de un simple juego de ritmo pero los usuarios se han dedicado a crearle mods muy trabajados, añadiendo nuevas canciones y personajes que perfectamente podrían llegar a pasar como contenido oficial.

La comunidad de mods de un videojuego es de las cosas más importantes que pueden existir. Con todo lo que le pueden añadir a nuestra experiencia, estos ayudan a mantener vivo a un titulo incluso muchísimos años después de su lanzamiento, y todo ello gracias a los usuarios que tienen un amor profundo hacía sus juegos favoritos.
Es por ello que muchas veces debemos recibir con los brazos abiertos a las modificaciones, pues sino fuera por estas, estoy muy seguro de que muchos juegos estarían enterrados 8 metros bajo tierra a día de hoy...
