Planetary Life
Planetary Life is an upcoming God Sim game, reminiscent of Spore, with a deeper focus on the Planet itself.
Currently in a Demo Stage, the game will feature multiple stages, including cell and civilization stages.
100,000 Years of Evolution: A Simulation
I decided to run the simulation for over 10 real life hours and record evolution over 100,000 years.
Of course, having started from a barren planet, I had some work to do before it could sustain life.
Making the Planet Habitable
To start, I focused on gathering Cosmic Energy, which allows me to unlock skills. Cosmic energy is also essential to create life form later on, with less restrictions.
I launched comets, which on impact, create water. I then adjusted the planet configuration and let the simulation run until the temperature was stable enough.
Plant Lifeform
Before getting too excited in creating animals, I had to make sure that they would have a reliable food source. And yes, that would be in the form of plants.
Plants require a few features, particularly a short stem and roots to be able to spread to land. Once I had a few plants on land, I evolved one to a medium stem and longer roots, to ensure it can go all the way.
I also mutated different plants to have a varied temperature resistance, with colder and warmer plants.
Creature Lifeform
As soon as the planet had multiple plants spreading throughout, it was time to create creatures.
I had two strategies here:
First, I wanted to create some custom creatures with my cosmic energy. There, I created quite a complex creature with multiple body parts.
The second, which was the primary point of the video, was to create a set of random microorganism creatures and let them mutate by themselves over time.
End-Result
At Year 100,000, the planet was full of plant life. The plants had naturally mutated to grow tree leaves and become a better source of nutrition.
The planet also was populated by over 1,000 creatures across 173 species. Most were descendants of the first creature I created, but they varied in colour and features. In fact, some grew wings and were flying, whereas others evolved legs to be land creatures.
The simulation had also created a large number of flying turtles!
Game Info
Planetary Life will be released in Early Access later in the year, while currently a demo is freely available.
The game is already making waves and has gathered the attention of multiple youtubers. The game is ripe with potential, and for me, it's a guaranteed purchase on release.
