Let's start this post with my reaction to seeing myself as an NPC!
So how did I become an NPC in my favourite game?
Obsession with Creature Collecting Games
For those who don't know me, I'm autistic! I've always gravitated to Creature Collecting games, starting with Pokemon and Digimon games since childhood.
In 2020, I joined Temtem, which I played for over 5,500 hours! Through Temtem, I discovered Kickstarter platform.
In early 2021, I backed my first game on Kickstarter: Ova Magica. I immediately was drawn to the game and knew that I would love it, three years before I was able to even play.
Content Creation for Demo
My real experience started in early June 2024 when the demo was released on Steam. That month, I gathered over 50 hours of gameplay on just the demo.
During the demo, I recorded 10 videos, focusing on early gameplay and guides.
As I was releasing these videos, I already started gathering trust with the developer and community.
Release and Admin for Gaming Wiki
Shortly after release, I was ecstatic with creating content and helping players in the official Discord. I also dove deeply into cross-breeding and created a Pink Ballerina Blob!
Within a week of release, I decided to do something completely new.
I start building the Ova Magica wiki! It was my first time contributing seriously to a wiki, and it took a month's of hard work. I built databases, learned how to rip images from the game files, edit the CSS... and within 1 month, the wiki was released!
One of my favourite things that I was able to accomplish is to show the breeding colors, including the hidden colours for some of the blobs.
It was a completely overwhelming task to create everything, and it was thanks to community members helping with gathering data for me to include.
Update 0.7 and new NPC
When the latest Early Access update released, I messaged the dev that I cannot play it right away and need a few days. She notified me that when I build the Dye Centre, I will see a surprise.
That excited me, even though I had no idea what.
Lo-and-behold, whilst I was recording myself entering the building, I saw another PinkGeeRough. Myself as an NPC! And my Pink Ballerina Blob!
It was truly a surprise that I completely cherish. At best, I was expecting a reference to pink blobs or something cute, but this blew me out!
It's nice to see indie devs appreciating the community effort. I continue looking forward to working more on the wiki and contributing to the game, hoping it becomes a super success towards it's 1.0 release.
