Space Marine 2 was a game I absolutely loved when playing through the campaign. I continued playing it for a while but quickly dropped it when my friends got busy being parents all at the same time. Some games are just not as fun to play alone. There was a recent update to the game just a few days ago so I decided to boot it up and give it a go.
What is the Datavault?
The Datavault isn't some groundbreaking update but it adds something to the game that's very helpful to me. It adds ingame achievements and goals to complete in return for Research Data that can be spent to unlock cosmetics and lore descriptions of various things that exist in the game and in the Warhammer 40K universe as a whole. Very useful for me who has just started reading the Eisenhorn trilogy that is set in this universe. Instead of consulting a wiki to find out what an Astropath is I can now find out by playing this awesome game instead.
The update also adds a few things that I'm far away from being able to experience. A new maximum dificulty for operations and a new map in the PvP mode that I will most likely never try. There's also some paid cosmetics and new enemies.
Sniping for the Emperor
I've been playing a few hours since the update dropped and I've mostly been playing as the Sniper class. It's very different from the Heavy class that I've been used to playing as before. The Heavy is a frontline fighter focused on clearing hordes of minoris enemies, while the Sniper is more of a backline stealth fighter focusing on taking out bigger majoris type enemies. They both contribute to the team in different ways. The Sniper will most likely never top the kill meter but will instead be sitting on a high ranged damage number.
I'm only level 6 so far with the sniper and I'm just now starting to explore higher difficulties from the base difficulty. I think that's where I'm gonna have to start playing like a real sniper so I don't get downed all the time. The sniper has a stealth ability that lets him go invisible and deal extra damage for his next shot. I need to learn when the right moment to use it is. Right now I'm only using it whenever it's up to deal some extra damage, but there's most likely some tactical benefit to timing it better.
Trying this update has definitely rekindled my like for the game. I will be playing this a lot more going forward, killing filthy Xenos scum in the name of the God Emperor.
