Yes, you're seeing things right. I am making a post about something else that Diablo 4. Starting to feel a slight burnout from the eternal grind I decided to force myself to take a break from the game so that I don't end up in a full burnout. With the repetitive gameplay that Diablo 4 has I'm pretty sure that point isn't far away if I keep it going.
For that reason I decided it was time to return to Deep Rock Galactic to see what Season 4 has in store for me. Since I haven't experienced enough season 4 content yet to say much about it I'm going to dedicate this post to the promotion of my driller.
Who is the driller?
The drillers job is to drill. Need a tunnel? The driller will drill it for you. Need a hole? The driller will drill it for you. Need to blow something up? The driller will do it for you.
The driller is an expert at removing things. He's not as essential to the team as the Engineer but he will make sure you complete most of your missions faster as long as those missions are about mining and collecting resources. In combat focused missions he is pretty much deadweight. He can help take out swarms in a decent way but he can barely deal any damage to the different bosses in the game.
The main feature of the driller are his drills. These are basically giant gloves with drills on the ends that he can use to drill tunnels and make pathways for the rest of the team. Very helpful when moving from cavern to cavern as digging out a tunnel with the pickaxe can take a good minute while it's done in seconds with the drill. In terms of utility that is pretty much it. This is not an essential tool to have on your team but it will speed up your game.
In terms of weapons the driller is a bit of an elemental nut. His main weapons he can choose between are a flamethrower, a freeze gun and a sludge cannon. All great for taking out swarms of enemies and just as great at dealing damage to your own team. I've unintentionally fried one to many dwarf butts with that flamethrower in my time playing the driller.
Secondary weapons are more standardized. He has a pretty standard handgun, a plasma gun and I don't actually know what his third secondary is yet. Unlike with the engineer I reached level 25 and was able to promote the driller before unlocking all of his weapons after taking advantage of a double experience week a little while back. Luckily I can still unlock these while working towards promotion on the last two classes; the scout and the gunner.
Even though the driller isn't as strong of a class as the engineer I really enjoyed playing as him. The drills are a great utility tool both for personal reasons and for the entire team if used right even if they're not essential. There's so many times I've just tired of looking for the right path to the objective and instead just drilled my way there. I've also used this strategy when extracting with the droppod where I've just drilled straight at it instead of following Molly through the tunnels.
the driller is definitely a class I'm going to be returning to once I finish promoting all the classes. Once I have all of them promoted I'm going to just play whatever class I want while jumping a bit back and forth between them all. I've tried them all for a little bit and the only one I haven't enjoyed that much is the gunner. Then again I'm barely level 10 with the gunner which means I haven't seen anything past his starting gear yet. I've heard he gets a literal mini nuke at one point and with how fun it is to blow things up that might just be a turning point for me.
I should probably mention his C4 charges as well but what is there to say really? It blows things up. The environment. Enemies. Team mates. Yourself. It's C4.
I will most likely tackle the scout next so stay tuned for a post about the scouts promotion coming up somewhere down the line. I'll probably be back with a DRG post talking about Season 4 before that happens. Maybe even some other things as I do have quite a lot I want to talk about when it comes to this game.
