A little while ago I made a post praising how good the new Diablo 4 season was. I've put roughly 10 hours more into the season since then and I've been having a great time with it. That was until, as if it was the click of a button, I just didn't anymore.
Fantastic season mechanic
When I wrote my last post I had just unlocked world tier 3 which meant I was able to access the seasonal mechanic and event that took place in hell. I was quite excited for that and with good reason. It's a really good and fun mechanic mostly based on just killing heaps and heaps of enemies as fast as you can. Killing heaps and heaps of enemies is what this game is about after all.
The short version of the event is that you're thrown into a small room where you have to survive a certain amount of waves. During the waves lesser events will be spawning that grant a certain amount of aether when you complete them. These events are stronger elites or special kind of structures that need to be defeated. Between waves you get three choices that strengthen the enemies in a way while also giving you a reward of more aether for each event, adding a bit of a roguelite element to it all. When you make it through the waves you have to fight a trio of bosses before you get to spend your aether by opening chests.
It was great fun for the first few runs but the fun fell of rather quickly. I think it ties into the issues I'm having with the class I chose, seeing as my build mostly consists of holding the right mouse button to have enemies crumble before me. I have other skills but I don't really need them to smelt enemies and I'm even fighting enemies 10 levels above my own.
And I guess that just sums up why my excitement for this season dwindled this quickly. I can still grow in power and take on even greater challenges but in the end I'll still be holding the right mouse button just to see stronger enemies die to a different kind of spell or effect.
Diablo 4 is definitely moving in the right direction, however. There's a lot more fun to be had now than back when the game launched. There's also way more build variety going around thanks to the crazy amount of new legendary aspects and unique gear effects they've added to the game.
I spent around 10-15 hours playing this season which isn't to bad seeing as I didn't have to spend any money to play it. I do hope they can add even more variety to the game in the future to keep me around even longer in future seasons.
