A new update dropped for World of Warcraft introducing a brand new zone called the Undermine. This entire update is focused around Goblins, with the Undermine being the capital city of the Goblins. I'm excited to delve deeper into Goblin lore over the coming weeks. That's something that's been lacking in World of Warcraft for the last 20 years.
D.R.I.V.E-ing around
One of the main acquisitions in the Undermine is the new D.R.I.V.E. mount that we get access to shortly after coming to the zone. This is a race car that we can use to traverse the zone. It's got crazy speed and makes going from anywhere to anywhere in the Undermine lightning fast. Quite fitting with the time as Goblins are all about speed and efficiency.
While the D.R.I.V.E. is a fun addition to the game it's also entirely impossible to steer. It uses a similar system as the classic Mario Kart where you have to drift to build up boost but the drift is just entirely out of control. Boosting makes it impossible to turns so people are just hitting the walls all the time. It's quite comedic bit also frustrating. There's parts that can be installed on the car to change the cars behavior so I hope that will make it easier to steer.
The Cartels of the Undermine
The story bit of the Undermine focuses on the four big goblin cartels. This is actually huge as we've heard about all of these cartels since World of Warcraft released in 2004. There's the Bilgewater Cartel, Steamwheedle Cartel, Blackwater Cartel and the Venteru Co. All of these has been around in the game for 20 years so it's cool to finally learn more about each of them.
We learn a lot about them through the zones main and side quests. Each week we also get to pick a cartel to side with for that week, earning us reputation towards the cartel to unlock rewards. Each cartel has unique cosmetics and mounts that we can get. Some of the mounts are crazy cool as well. Goblins always had the coolest stuff.
There's more to come
World of Warcraft is a constantly changing game and there' still more to come with this update. This week we were introduced to the open world content of the update. On Wednesday the new season will start which will introduce a new dungeon, a new raid and a lot of new seasonal content to tackle and rewards to chase.
I'm very happy that World of Warcraft has come to a point where I'm excited to return to it for each update. I hope it continues for years to come.
