Although I consider myself quite young (21 years old), I was lucky to have an internet connection and a computer from a very early age, this allowed me to live many experiences online and thus witness in the front row how things have changed.
Nowadays, talking about browser games is almost archaic, with an increasing presence of mobile games, emulators and video game consoles, which are increasingly penetrating the mainstream market, it is unnecessary to go to the internet in search of simple video games.
For people of my generation it was not always like that, and we accumulate throughout some pleasant (and others not so many) memories of our life on the internet, trying to play.
Neopets is a title that may sound quite dark to many, but it was not exactly small, since 1999 it accumulated hundreds of thousands of loyal users who connected almost daily for an innovative experience.
The premise of Neopets is quite simple, it is a virtual world where you acquire a virutal pet (As its name implies) and you have a variety of activities to perform, to compare it with a familiar example: think of a dense version of Club Penguin .
It is a game that can be approached from different angles, you can feed your pet, dress it, or have it participate in contests ... The possibilities are almost limitless.
For most things we will need Neopoints, a currency that can be acquired in various ways, one of the main ones being to participate in the games offered by the platform. The Neopets games section are the soul of the page, one of the funniest parts of the experience ... All the games have these neopets as protagonists and pose quite simple mechanics, from titles that mimic classics like Snake or Pacman, to Tetris or Frogger, going through some more complex racing or fighting, the relationship between the games and the coins to be won create a feeling of deep addiction, it is easy to spend hours and hours without getting bored.
Neopets is easily surprising due to its complexity, we have the ability to set up virtual stores to sell our rare objects, or save money in the bank by receiving interest and the whole question, it is not exactly difficult to immerse yourself in its mechanics.
The existence of "neoforos" and "neomail" are the main focus of the neopets community, and although in my childhood I did not pay much attention to these sectors, they are one of the best parts to meet people and make friends who share your same passion for the game.
In a rather nostalgic plan, seeing that Neopets is still active, I wanted to try to open my last user (not the first one I believe, I lost that one years ago) to share it with you.
It should be noted that this user is relatively new, and curiously, I opened it just out of nostalgia, but my first activities on the page date from about 15 years ago. Of course, I did not remember my username or password, and thanks to my email I was able to recover both.
The first thing I noticed is that the experience is now slightly different, the layout of various portions of the page has changed, it has been modernized.
As you can see, my Neopets were completely abandoned, so true to my old experiences with the game, I decided to go to the bank to withdraw part of my savings. I had quite a bit of money in storage.
It's a bit difficult for me to find things with the new design, but I did.
After I had withdrawn my money I went to a couple of stores to buy food to feed my neopets, they required too much food.
While walking through the "maps" that are now nothing more than simple menus, I remembered many things that I used to do on the page, when you want to buy food there are shops that allow you to haggle, there are wheels of fortune throughout the entire universe and free prizes you can claim daily.
The only disappointment I got was in the game area, I don't know why apparently the number of available titles has been limited, I also played "Hit Kazh" for a while.
Neopets was a wonderful experience that as a child I was lucky to have lived, I am happy to see that it is available and that it still has a lot to offer, a new update for mobile phones is announced on the page, this could be the breath of fresh air that it needs the franchise to regain the strength of its glory years.

Aunque me considero bastante joven (21 años) tuve la suerte de contar con una conexión a internet y una computadora desde muy temprano, esto me permitió vivir muchas experiencias online y pues presenciar en primera fila como las cosas han cambiado.
En la actualidad, hablar de juegos de navegador es casi arcaico, con una presencia cada vez mayor de los juegos moviles, emuladores y consolas de videojuegos, que cada vez calan más y más en el mercado mainstream, es innecesario acudir a internet en busca de sencillos videojuegos.
Para la gente de mi generación no siempre fue así, y acumulamos a lo largo de los algunos gratos (y otros no tantos) recuerdos de nuestra vida en internet, tratando de jugar.
Neopets es un título que para muchos puede sonar bastante oscuro, pero no era precisamente pequeño, desde 1999 acumuló cientos de miles de usuarios fieles que se conectaban casi a diario para una experiencia innovadora.
La premisa de Neopets es bastante sencilla, es un mundo virtual en donde adquieres una mascota virutal (Como su propio nombre lo implica) y tienes una variedad de actividades a realizar, para compararlo con un ejemplo familiar: piensa en una versión densa de Club Penguin.
Es un juego que puede abordarse desde distintos angulos, puedes alimentar a tu mascota, vestirla, o ponerla a participar en concursos... Las posibilidades son casi ilimitadas.
Para la mayoría de las cosas necesitaremos Neopuntos, una moneda que puede adquirise desde diversas maneras, siendo una de la principales el participar en los juegos que ofrece la plataforma. La sección de juegos de Neopets son el alma de la pagina, una de las partes más divertidas de la experiencia... Todos los juegos tienen a estos neopets como protagonistas y plantean mecánicas bastante sencillas, dese titulos que mimican clásicos como Snake o Pacman, hasta Tetris o Frogger, pasando por algunos más complejos de carreras o lucha, la relación entre los juegos y las monedas a ganar crean un sentimiento de adicción profunda, es fácil pasar horas y horas sin aburrirse.
Neopets sorprende facilmente por su complejidad, nosotros tenemos la capacidad de montar tiendas virtuales para vender nuestros objetos raros, o ahorrar dinero en el banco recibiendo intereses y toda la cuestión, no es precisamente difícil sumergirse en sus mecánicas.
La existencia de "neoforos" y "neomail" son el principal foco de la comunidad neopets, y aunque en mi infancia no prestaba tanta atención a estos sectores, son una de las mejores partes para conocer gente y hacer amigos que comparten tu misma pasión por el juego.
En un plan bastante nostálgico, al ver que Neopets sigue activo, quise intentar abrir mi ultimo usuario (No el primero que cree, ese lo perdí hace años) para compartirlo con ustedes.
Cabe destacar que este usuario es relativamente nuevo, y curiosamente, lo abrí solo por nostalgia, pero mis primeras actividades en la página datan de hace unos 15 años. Por supuesto, no recordaba mi usuario ni mi contraseña, y gracias a mi correo pude recuperar ambas cosas.
Lo primero que noté es que la experiencia ahora es ligeramente distinta, el diseño de varias porciones de la página ha cambiado, se ha modernizado.
Como pueden observar, mis Neopets se encontraban absolutamente abandonados, así que fiel a mis antiguas experiencias con el juego, decidí acudir al banco a retirar parte de mis ahorros. Tenía bastante dinero guardado.
Es un poco complicado para mi encontrar las cosas con el nuevo diseño, pero lo logré.
Luego de haber retirado mi dinero acudí a un par de tiendas a comprar comida para alimentar a mis neopets, requirieron demasiada comida.
Mientras paseaba por los "mapas" que ahora no son más que simples menús, recordé muchas cosas que solía hacer en la página, cuando quieres comprar comida hay tiendas que te permiten regatear, existen ruedas de la fortuna a lo largo de todo el universo y premios gratis que puedes reclamar diariamente.
La única decepción que me llevé fue en el area de juego, no sé por qué al parecer se han limitado la cantidad de títulos disponibles, de igual forma jugue "Golpea Kazh" un rato.
Neopets fue una experiencia maravillosa que como niño tuve la suerte de haber vivido, me alegra ver que esta disponible y que aun tiene mucho que ofrecer, en la página se anuncia una nueva actualización para teléfonos moviles, este podría ser el soplo de aire fresco que necesita la franquicia para recobrar la fuerza de sus años de gloria.
Espero hayan disfrutado mi aventura recordando mi vieja cuenta de Neopets, quizá más adelante les muestre un poco más de ella.
