There is something that disturbs me about nintendo and surely many people too, despite being one of the most innovative video game companies (see the wii, the switch or even the Gamecube) is one of the most conservative, something has to do that is founded in one of the most conservative and culturally closed countries that exist, the point is that nintendo only opens up and innovates when forced by other developers, particularly xbox and playstation, although sega came before, have been the ones that have put the great nipponese company in a state of survival in recent years, and that is why they have always prioritized playing it safe when it comes to games.
and I'm not talking about mechanics, there we can see Mario Odissey and even more Breath Of the Wild being some of the most innovative games of the moment, but many times there are just that, recognized ips that we all recognize since we started this journey with videogames, rarely nintendo bets on novelties or even some of their most beloved ips.
F-Zero stands out for its focus on speed and action, with high-speed racing on futuristic tracks that include ramps, platforms and obstacles. Players control flying craft known as "Blue Falcons" and compete against other pilots in a series of races. Several of its games have been praised by critics for their unique and exciting gameplay style, as well as their impressive graphics and soundtrack. However, it seems that the merit it has today is being an initial sketch for Mario Kart, which was created using some assets and technologies from this game.
The only fact of releasing the Mode 7 technique, which was a precursor of traditional 3d makes this game one of those that surely nintendo would not leave abandoned, but guess what, that was exactly what happened, Nintendo panicked after seeing that Sega was the least of their problems, they had already spent enough fighting him in the first war of consoles and the budget was only enough to innovate mario and continue improving the consoles, but what would happen when a vastly superior competitor is presented? well it enters in a crisis of two generations of consoles losing studies first with the decision to continue with the cartridges in the Nintendo 64 and then with the great royalties and the small discs of the Gamecube.
And there you have the perfect recipe for nintendo to go into a crisis and survival mode, being Nintendo the main contributor of quality games to their console they had to prioritize projects, I'm talking about the Mario and Zelda to maximize profits d their next consoles, although F Zero had a small comeback in the Game Boy Advance with a title that remastered the first version of the game I think that those of us who know the game and the characters are probably because of the Smash Bros, and I say, that's a good thing but seriously, such a great theme can't go more than 20 years without Nintendo giving it a chance.
Nintendo would have to have, as always, a playable novelty to even think about bringing back this series, and that doesn't seem to happen soon since they have more than enough projects to complete, plus the racing genre is not that much to nintendo's liking, yes, they can make the best Mario Kart ever but relaunching a series will give the expectation of more and better games, and bringing out another franchise I think is something that the company doesn't want to do for the time being.
But what about the third party studios? they could lend the series to a studio that has the ideas to launch this series, the futuristic setting is surely something that will attract many people and the theme of racing with space bolides even more, I think this would be the scenario to take into account, although at the moment I have not seen serious collaborators I think the recent release of Kirby with his new game gives me hope to see this return.
