When it comes to shooters, one game can make me sleepy, while another one can become my favorite thing for weeks, each one has its pros and cons, good and bad things, and honestly I wasn't planning to do this post, because the game came literally out of nowhere while I was looking for deals on Steam, I saw 5 seconds of gameplay... and I bought it, I didn't need to know more.
I must point out that it's an Early Access game, and it shows in some things, so the things I showed here could change in the future, that said, it's time to talk about ULTRAKILL.
Ultrakill is one of those shooters where nothing makes sense, there is little or no story (or mostly there is only lore) and the important thing is the shooting, and it shows a lot, I come from playing Ion Fury and it's frantic, but this is the next level.
As I say in the title, the game reminds me a lot to Doom Eternal in several aspects, and if you're like me, you're dying to play it but your pc is a toaster, I highly recommend you to try Ultrakill, it has its differences, but even in Early Access I can tell you that it's a game that promises a lot.
The protagonist of this story is V1, a robot that for some reason is descending into the depths of hell, it's funny how all these frantic shooters usually have some kind of demonic connotation, or involve a lot of the color red, but in any case, V1 starts his journey unarmed, as soon as he finds a gun, the massacre begins.
There are a lot of mechanics to explain, so I'll try to go little by little to make it as understandable as possible.

First, the healing, there is only one way to heal yourself, you must literally bathe in the blood of your enemies, for some reason V1 works with blood, and heals when blood falls on him, either with physical attacks, or shooting very close, in a few places on the map there are red orbs that temporarily increase the maximum health, but apart from that there is no other way to heal yourself.
Now, the weapons, all weapons have a primary and a secondary shot, for example, the initial gun has a piercing shot that works to break glass surfaces, the game design teaches you to use this to take out multiple enemies at once, and just as each weapon has a secondary shot, they all have "alternative" modes that change how that shot works, in the case of the gun, V1 flips a coin, and if you shoot it in the air the attack will do a lot of damage to an enemy.
So far I've found a shotgun that also has two firing modes, and a kind of minigun with the same characteristics, all designed to cause as much havoc as possible, but none of this is what makes the game addictive, that's up to my favorite part, the mobility.

I've always been attracted to those games where the characters have a superhuman mobility, in shooters can be compared to that boom of exo-suits almost 10 years ago, one of the games I played the most of this style is CoD: Advance Warfare (mostly because it's the only thing my nephew plays on his PS3 day and night), but in that particular case, the movement although cool at the beginning, feels heavy, as if the exo-suit could barely with your weight, in Ultrakill this is completely solved.
V1 has an absurd mobility, he can jump, slide infinitely on the ground, lean up to three times on the walls after jumping, and finally, dash to where he's aiming, the latter consumes a stamina bar that recharges over time, but it does it pretty fast so it's not a resource you should save too much, in fact, dashing is essential to avoid damage because it makes you completely invulnerable unlike sliding on the ground or jumping.
Only one thing remains, the physical attacks, as such you only have two, the first is a blow that works to break obstacles and make enemies bleed to heal you, you can also use it to make parrys to some attacks or shots, but if an enemy is going to attack and gives off a blue glow, that means you can't parry them. The other move is a stomp that you can do in the air, it also serves to do damage to enemies, as well as lift them in the air to shoot them or just move away while they fall, both moves are quite versatile and it will depend on each player how to use them.
Let's move on to the enemies, I would mainly divide them into two types, melee and long range, the first are the most common and will constantly be chasing you to hit you, the others shooting in constant intervals trying to hit you (and to which it's very convenient parry), obviously the enemies aren't always so binary and as we progress new and stronger ones will appear, in addition to the bosses, which are another strong aspect of the experience.
I could complete many of the levels without much difficulty, until a boss came and made me try and retry until I FINALLY managed to defeat it, certainly make you use all your arsenal to the maximum and that is spectacular, in terms of difficulty levels, there are several, from fairly easy to quite difficult, so although you can tell that the game is intended to be difficult, there is the possibility of lowering the challenge, which is perfect.
A graphic detail that I like a lot (and that helps if your pc is below the standard "toaster" like mine) is the option to "pixel" the graphics to resemble those of a game of the first PlayStation, it's not very noticeable in this image but I leave it here to give you an idea, in my case the difference in performance is very noticeable.

Additionally the game has a mode called The Sandbox to practice, and another called The Cyber Grind, which is in short an infinite mode where the better you perform the more points you'll accumulate, I have not tested this mode in depth so I can't give you many more details, everything I tell you in this post have been my first impressions, and my conclusion is that if you are interested in knowing more don't wait for another post or a video, just go play it, if you like shooters you are missing out on a pretty good one haha, I don't have much more to add so thank you very much for reading, I hope you liked it.

Cuando se trata de shooters, un juego puede darme sueño, mientras otro puede convertirse en mi cosa favorita durante semanas, cada uno tiene sus pros y contras, cosas buenas y malas, y sinceramente no tenía pensando hacer este post, pues el juego salió literalmente de la nada mientras buscaba ofertas en Steam, vi 5 segundos de gameplay… y lo compré, no necesitaba saber más.
Debo destacar que es un juego en Early Access, y se nota en algunas cosas, así que las cosas que enseñe aquí podrían cambiar a futuro, aclarado eso, es momento de hablar de ULTRAKILL.
Ultrakill es uno de esos shooters donde nada tiene sentido, hay poca o nula historia (o mayormente solo hay lore) y lo importante son los disparos, y se nota muchísimo, yo vengo de jugar Ion Fury y es frenético, pero esto es el siguiente nivel.
Como digo en el título, el juego me recuerda bastante a Doom Eternal en varios aspectos, y si al igual que yo, te mueres por jugarlo pero tu pc no da para tanto, te recomiendo bastante probar Ultrakill, tiene sus diferencias, pero aún en Early Access puedo decirles que es un juego que promete mucho.

Primero, la curación, solo hay una forma de curarte, debes literalmente bañarte en la sangre de tus enemigos, por algún motivo V1 funciona con sangre, y se cura cuando le cae sangre encima, ya sea con ataques físicos, o disparando muy de cerca, en contados lugares del mapa hay orbes rojos que aumentan temporalmente la salud máxima, pero aparte de eso no hay ninguna otra forma de curarte.
Ahora, las armas, todas las armas tienen un disparo primario y otro secundario, por ejemplo, la pistola inicial tiene un disparo perforador que funciona para romper superficies de cristal, el diseño del juego te enseña a usar esto para acabar con varios enemigos a la vez, y así como cada arma tiene un disparo secundario, todas tienen modos “alternativos” que cambian el funcionamiento de dicho disparo, en el caso de la pistola V1 arroja una moneda, y si le disparamos en el aire el ataque hará mucho daño a un enemigo.
Hasta el momento he encontrado una escopeta que también tiene dos modos de disparo, y una especie de minigun con las mismas características, todas diseñadas para causar el mayor estropicio que te sea posible, pero nada de esto es lo que hace adictivo al juego, eso le corresponde a mi parte favorita, la movilidad.

Siempre me han llamado la atención esos juegos donde los personajes tienen una movilidad sobrehumana, en los shooters puede compararse con ese boom de los exo-trajes hace casi ya 10 años, uno de los que más he jugado de este estilo es el CoD: Advance Warfare (más que nada porque es lo único que juega mi sobrino en su PS3 día y noche), pero en ese caso particular, el movimiento aunque cool al principio, se siente pesado, como si el exo-traje apenas pudiese con tu peso, en Ultrakill esto está completamente solucionado.
V1 tiene una movilidad absurda, puede saltar, deslizarse infinitamente por el suelo, apoyarse hasta tres veces en las paredes después de saltar, y finalmente, hacer “dash” hacia donde esté apuntando, esto último consume una barra de “stamina” que se recarga con el tiempo, pero lo hace bastante rápido así que no es un recurso que debas guardar demasiado, de hecho, hacer dash es fundamental para evitar daño pues te hace completamente invulnerable a diferencia de deslizarte por el suelo o saltar.
Solo resta una cosa, los ataques físicos, como tal solo tienes dos, el primero es un golpe que funciona para romper obstáculos y hacer sangrar a los enemigos para curarte, también puedes utilizarlo para hacer parrys a algunos ataques o disparos, pero si un enemigo va a atacar y desprende un brillo azul, significa que no se le puede hacer parry, el otro movimiento es un pisotón que puedes hacer en el aire, también sirve para hacer daño a los enemigos, así como levantarlos en el aire para dispararles o solo alejarte mientras caen, ambos movimientos son bastante versátiles y dependerá de cada jugador cómo usarlos.
Pasemos a los enemigos, principalmente los dividiría en dos tipos, melee y largo alcance, los primeros son los más comunes y constantemente te estarán persiguiendo para golpearte, los otros disparando en intérvalos constantes intentando atinarte (y a los cuales conviene mucho hacerles parry), obviamente los enemigos no son siempre tan binarios y conforme avancemos irán apareciendo otros nuevos y más fuertes, además de los jefes, que son otro aspecto fuerte de la experiencia.
Muchos de los niveles pude completarlos sin mucha dificultad, hasta que llegaba un jefe y me hacía reintentar y reintentar hasta que FINALMENTE lograba derrotarlo, ciertamente te hacen utilizar todo tu arsenal al máximo y eso es espectacular, en cuanto a niveles de dificultad, hay varios, desde bastante fáciles hasta bastante difíciles, así que a pesar de que se nota que el juego tiene intención de ser difícil, existe la posibilidad de bajarle al reto, lo cual está perfecto.
Un detalle gráfico que me gusta mucho (y que ayuda si tu pc está por debajo del estándar de “tostadora” como la mia) es la opción de “pixelar” los gráficos para que se asemejen a los de un juego de la primera PlayStation, no es muy notorio en esta imagen pero se las dejo para que se hagan una idea, en mi caso la diferencia de rendimiento es muy notable.

Adicionalmente el juego tiene un modo llamado The Sandbox para practicar, y otro llamado The Cyber Grind, que es en resumen un modo infinito donde mientras mejor te desempeñes más puntos acumularás, no he probado este modo en profundidad así que no puedo darles muchos más detalles, todo lo que les cuento en este post han sido mis primeras impresiones, y mi conclusión es que si te interesa saber más no esperes a otro post o un video, solo ve a jugarlo, si te gustan los shooters te estás perdiendo de uno bastante bueno haha, no tengo mucho más que agregar así que muchas gracias por leer, espero les haya gustado.
