Prince of Persia is a video game franchise built around a prince that goes through some magical adventures, set in ancient Persia.
There are five main games in this franchise, as shown above. The number of all Prince of Persia games is a lot more, somewhere around 17 to 19 games in total, but these five games are the best and most significant ones.
The first Prince of Persia game was released in 1989, which was one of the very first video games ever created.
The story of this game is revolved around a prince that is trying to save his princess from evil hands. It had simple 2D gameplay. No one would have thought this game was the beginning of a massive franchise.
The next title was Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, which was another 2D adventure game.
Then, Prince of Persia 3D was released, as one of the very first 3D games, created in 1999.
Two years after that, another game was released: Prince of Persia: Harem Adventures:
All of the Prince of Persia games that were released up until 2003 were only the beginning of a massive franchise. The next title came in 2003, which is the first of the five main games that I mentioned at the beginning of the post.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time:
The game follows an unnamed Prince. The Prince obtains an artifact called the Dagger of Time, while his father's army captures an hourglass containing the mysterious Sands of Time. Visiting the palace of the Sultan of Azad to present the Sands as a gift, the Vizier tricks the Prince into releasing the Sands, transforming the people of Azad into savage monsters under his control. Together with Farah, a young Princess who knows the power of the Sands, the Prince works to correct his mistake and foil the Vizier's evil plans. The gameplay revolves around the Prince's platforming abilities, broken up by fights with the creatures created by the Sands. A key mechanic in the game is using the Dagger to rewind time if the Prince makes a mistake while platforming and use it to kill and freeze enemies.
Our story starts here. I'm going to post the full gameplay of all five Prince of Persia games. I'll try to narrate the story as best as I can. I hope you enjoy itthem.
