Seguimos hablando de la industria del videojuego, de cómo los conflictos políticos y externos a la industria afectan directa e indirectamente a los desarrolladores y creativos, es difícil hablar de una industria cuando esta no se deja ver, mucho de lo que he relatado acá solo se sabe por noticias en los periódicos o hilos populares en las redes sociales, en esta serie de post solo trato de agrupar todo, darle sentido y exponerlo para darle mucha más cobertura de la que suele tener. La industria en Venezuela y Latinoamérica parecen tener ese mismo problema, a pesar de tener estudios y talento no logran dar el paso adelante y ponerse en las primeras planas de algunos portales de noticias de videojuegos, España es un caso que se puede usar como ejemplo y que con su creciente popularidad en este entorno a podido recabar los recursos necesarios como para construir un entorno sostenible en los videojuegos teniendo tanto estudios como figuras capaces de innovar en el campo, pero, ¿qué le depara a Latinoamérica y sobre todo a mi país Venezuela?
Uno de los estudios que están instalados en el país parece tener una idea de hacia dónde apuntar aun en estas etapas tempranas del mercado de videojuegos Venezolano: los juegos móviles, 3D Avenue es una de las pocas empresas que he visto y que han encontrado una extraña estabilidad realizando proyectos para Android, los desarrollos móviles ofrecen una plataforma sin costo para el lanzamiento de apps así como un entorno mucho más fácil para poder lanzar el juego sin costo y subsistir por medio de la publicidad en la app, algo que en la empresa aprovecharon para sacar dos juegos: Nanomites que funciona como una especie de abrebocas o demo técnica para atraer inversionistas o nuevos prospectos de ventas y Spectrum que ya es su lanzamiento exitoso estando primero en Steam para luego pasar a ser un port en consolas, están desarrollando un nuevo juego también de nombre aun no anunciado pero mi punto es que estos muchachos han sabido darle un giro al como vemos la creación de videojuegos en mi país, enfocando su estrategia en hacer juegos pequeños pero adictivos para luego lanzarse plenamente a mercados más concurridos.
Por supuesto cuando hablo de uno de los pocos estudios visibles en el panorama nacional también tengo que mencionar con lo que pelean día a día para poder siquiera sacar un producto, 3D Avenue está ubicada en Maracaibo, Estado Zulia, una de las áreas más afectadas por los cortes de luz diarios que ponen en peligro no solo la productividad del estudio sino por el peligro de que algunos de estos cortes eléctricos pueda dañar alguna PC o algo que ponga en peligro el desarrollo del videojuego (en algunos casos incluso las algunos aparatos del hogar pueden resultar dañados y obliga a los creativos a retrasar aún más los proyectos para reponerlos), y eso es solo la punta del iceberg, la inseguridad es el pan de cada día en las zonas como esta, cada día el estudio está expuesto a ser robado debido a su ubicación en los barrios o zonas rojas del estado.
La industria en Venezuela avanza lento pero marca pequeños logros cada cierto tiempo, uno de los puntos para ser optimista es la reciente actualización del país con respecto a la red de fibra óptica, muchos estados centrales están experimentando por primera vez un internet de calidad y eso ciertamente abrirá muchas puertas a nuevos desarrolladores tanto para que puedan aprender a hacer videojuegos como para poder compartirlos con el mundo que al final es lo más importante, la normalización de la economía es un objetivo que está llegando lentamente y que puede aportar alivio tanto a los desarrolladores de a pie como a los grandes estudios que empiecen a pensar en Venezuela como un futuro centro de operaciones.
Un buen punto de comparación para el videojuego en Venezuela puede ser el de mirar a su hermano Colombia que ha podido poner a sus desarrolladores en el mapa de distintas conferencias y eventos de videojuegos dándole cierta libertad a las empresas tecnológicas para maniobrar y crear un modelo de negocios. También hay que resaltar que los youtubers y streamers de videojuegos han tenido un alza no solo en el país hermano sino en toda Latinoamérica, en general se ve un mercado creciente enfocado en la creación de contenido.
Pero aunque en muchos de estos países en la región se se vive otro tipo de papel de parte del videojuego, en Venezuela desde hace algunos años ha tenido un rol mucho más crucial en la vida de algunos habitantes, en muchas zonas hasta se ha convertido en una forma de trabajo para poder sobrevivir la creciente inflación del país, más adelante cubriré este lado oculto del videojuego en mi país, como miles de personas “juegan” para poder sobrevivir y buscar una mejor vida. One of the studios that are installed in the country seems to have an idea of where to aim even in these early stages of the Venezuelan video game market: mobile games, 3D Avenue is one of the few companies I've seen that have found a strange stability making projects for Android, mobile developments offer a platform at no cost for launching apps as well as a much easier environment to launch the game at no cost and subsist through advertising in the app, something that the company took advantage of to release two games: Nanomites which works as a kind of opening or technical demo to attract investors or new sales prospects and Spectrum which is already its successful launch being first on Steam to then become a port on consoles, are developing a new game also not yet announced name but my point is that these guys have managed to give a twist to how we see the creation of video games in my country, focusing its strategy on making small but addictive games and then fully launched to more crowded markets.
Of course when I talk about one of the few visible studios in the national scene I also have to mention what they fight with day to day to be able to even release a product, 3D Avenue is located in Maracaibo, Zulia State, one of the areas most affected by the daily power cuts that endanger not only the productivity of the studio but also the danger that some of these power cuts may damage a PC or something that endangers the development of the videogame (in some cases even some home appliances can be damaged and forces the creatives to delay even more the projects to replace them), And that's just the tip of the iceberg, insecurity is the daily bread in areas like this, every day the studio is exposed to being robbed due to its location in the neighborhoods or red areas of the state.
The industry in Venezuela advances slowly but marks small achievements every so often, one of the points to be optimistic about is the recent update of the country regarding the fiber optic network, many central states are experiencing for the first time a quality internet and that will certainly open many doors to new developers both so they can learn to make video games and to be able to share them with the world which in the end is the most important thing, The normalization of the economy is a goal that is slowly arriving and that can bring relief to both ordinary developers and large studios that begin to think of Venezuela as a future center of operations.
A good point of comparison for video gaming in Venezuela may be to look at its sibling Colombia which has been able to put its developers on the map at various video game conferences and events giving some freedom to technology companies to maneuver and create a business model. It should also be noted that youtubers and streamers of video games have had a rise not only in the brother country but throughout Latin America, in general there is a growing market focused on content creation.
But although in many of these countries in the region there is another type of role played by the video game, in Venezuela for some years it has had a much more crucial role in the lives of some inhabitants, in many areas it has even become a way of working to survive the growing inflation of the country, later I will cover this hidden side of the video game in my country, as thousands of people "play" to survive and seek a better life.
