Hello everyone!
There are two figures that will always be present at video game events.
Useless advertising and Geoff Keighley
The beloved Doritos as many in the community call him has been a constant figure in gaming for a long time, he has been present at industry changing events and mythical releases such as Half-Life and the Game Awards, he is a journalist and TV presenter who was one of the first to take a stab at serious video game journalism and ultimately take it to a more formal level for the public eye.
Starting out writing articles and video game reviews for digital magazines as well as platforms such as Gamespot where he began conducting interviews related to the medium, over the years Geoff became interested in producing TV shows and events about video games.

It was during this period that he started working with Spike TV on all sorts of industry focused shows, there was extensive coverage of both new announcements and developer interviews and previews but what started to put Geoff on the mainstream map was the VGA (Spike Video Game Awards) which was an annual event held to award the best video games of each year, a precursor to what would become the Game Awards years later.
Mmmm.. seems like this man has done one or a couple of pretty cool things to put gaming on the map, many enthusiasts and reporters put him as one of the most important public figures in the medium, but that's where we start to tread on shaky ground, why is he so hated these days?
Hate is a strong word and in many of these cases I find it unjustified in many ways, when I first started researching this issue I had that mentality and although I still do I think there are a few points to understand this constant dislike of Geoff.

The creator of the Game Awards has also had a couple of decisions that are not in his favour, this one is a bit old but the creative decisions in events like the GA and others like it where you see much more publicity than the awards themselves, also the integration of categories or the little stylization of these events if we compare them with other media where they are supposed to have less budget (remember that the video game industry moves more money than the film, tv and music industry combined).

Although he has been appeasing them with a couple of events that undoubtedly changed the format and gave him a bit more of what fans were asking for there is still that aura about Geoff where he seems to have some favouritism, hey, we all have tastes and it's fair enough that he has them too, but when you are a proclaimed independent journalist and you favour certain practices it doesn't make you look good especially with a community that judges any step you take.

With all this I still get to thinking, this man is making an effort for decades to put the video game in the public eye, and I do not avoid the question of why we have to be so unfair to people who in general have done well to the medium, if I think that appears in too many events and it seems that in all just want to look good and keep getting paid, there I think you can have a point, but I still think he does a good job and with some time will be refined and improving everything he is building.

Hay dos figuras que siempre estaran presentes en los eventos de videojuegos

El querido Doritos como le dicen muchos dentro de la comunidad ha sido una figura constante que ha acompañado al videojuego durante mucho tiempo, ha estado presente en eventos que cambiaron la industria y en lanzamientos miticos como Half-Life y los Game Awards, es un periodista y presentandor de TV que fue uno de los primeros en apostar a hacer periodismo serio con los videojuegos y ultimamente a llevarlo a un nivel mas formal para el ojo publico.
Comenzo redactando articulos y reseñas de videojuegos en revistas digitales asi como en plataformas como Gamespot donde empezo a realizar entrevistas relacionadas al medio, con el paso de los años el querido Geoff se intereso en la produccion de programas de television y eventos sobre videojuegos.

Fue en este periodo cuando empezo a trabajar con Spike TV en todo tipo de programas enfocados a la industria, habia una amplia cobertura tanto de nuevos anuncios como de entrevistas con desarrolladores y avances pero lo que empezo a poner en mapa mainstream a Geoff fueron los VGA (Spike Video Game Awards) que fueron un evento anual realizado para premiar los mejores videojuegos de cada año, un precursor para lo que luego se convertiria en los Game Awards años mas tarde.
Mmmm.. parece que este hombre ha hecho una o un par de cosas bastante cool para poner al videojuego en el mapa, muchos entusiastas y reporteros lo ponen como una de las figuras publicas mas importantes del medio, pero es ahi cuando empezamos a pisar terreno inestable, ¿Por que es tan odiado actualmente?
Odiar es una palabra fuerte y en muchos de estos casos me parece injustificada en muchos aspectos, cuando empece a investigar sobre este asunto tenia esa mentalidad y aunque la sigo teniendo creo que hay algunos puntos por los cuales se puede entender este disgusto constante hacia Geoff.

El creador de los Game Awards tambien ha tenido un par de decisiones que no le favorecen demasiado, esta es un poco vieja pero las decisiones creativas en eventos como los GA y otros parecidos en donde se ve mucha mas publicidad que los premios en si, tambien la integracion de categorias o la poca estilizacion de estos eventos si los comparamos con otros medios en donde se supone que tienen menor presupuesto (recordemos que la industria del videojuego mueve mas dinero que el del cine, la tv y la musica combinados).

Aunque estas las ha estado apaciguando con un par de eventos que sin duda cambiaron el formato y le dieron un poco mas de lo que pedian a los fans todavia queda esa aura en geoff en donde parece que tiene algunos favoritismos, oye, todos tenemos gustos y es justo que el tambien los tenga, pero cuando eres un proclamado periodista independiente y favoreces ciertas practicas pues no es que te deje bien parado sobretodo con una comunidad que juzga cualquier paso que des.

Con todo esto aun me pongo a pensar, este hombre esta haciendo un esfuerzo desde hace decadas en poner al videojuego en el ojo publico, y nno evito hacerme la pregunta de por que tenemos que ser tan injustos con personas que en general le han hecho bien al medio, si creo que aparece en demasiados eventos y parece que en todos solo quiere quedar bien y que le sigan pagando, ahi creo que puedes tener un punto, pero sigo pensando que hace un buen trabajo y con algo de tiempo ira refinandose y mejorando todo lo que esta construyendo.
