Command & Conquer was a unique release in the mid 1990’s. Real Time Strategy (RTS) games were not new, just this game took off with fans. Was it the locale, military themed, or was it the improved approach to the genre? Command & Conquer touched base with many fans and went onto be a massive success. Now almost three decades later, Electronic Arts (EA) has released a remastered version of the first game, with expansions. They also included Red Alert just because they can.
Command & Conquer rocks
Anyone that played this series as it was released will probably agree. Command & Conquer rocks. What is different here is that this is EA, the butt of many Downloadable Content (DLC) jokes. Let’s face it, they earned that reputation. Here is where it gets weird – Command & Conquer Remastered Collection does not include DLC or microtransactions.
In this remastered collection you will get Command & Conquer and the various expansions. On top of all that, you will also get Red Alert. Anyone that remembers the beginnings of the Command & Conquer franchise will tell you, that is a lot of content.
That means Covert Operations, Counterstrike, and The Aftermath are included in this package. Plus, EA has apparently stated they will be remastering more Command & Conquer content.
Command & Conquer Remastered Collection updates
EA has saw fit to not only up the graphical detail but also music. Those improvements bring along another interesting option. You can switch between 4K remastered graphics and original. This can be done on the fly while playing single player modes.
Not only that, EA has saw fit to have the user interface upgraded and improved. Controls have also been updated as well as modding support. EA has even released a source code to GitHub.
Command & Conquer Remastered Collection is available right now on Steam and Origin. If you are a purist then check eBay for copies of the original games. Early on the franchise saw release on PlayStation, Sega Saturn and even Nintendo 64 if you prefer to play on a console. Head here for more real time strategy fun.0
