For most gamers, racing games are either awesome, or they make no sense. Similar to sports games. I am in the awesome camp, particularly the motorcycle-based ones. TT-64 by Gansteeth is a motorcycle racing game that recently found its way onto my radar. TT-64 is a work in progress with new footage recently posted to YouTube.
Rev Your Engines and Weave Through The Competition
I became a fan of motorcycle racing games with Super Hang-On, an early release for the Sega Genesis console. I had read about that game being in the arcades in magazines back in the day but having only one arcade near, I never saw it in person.
Since then, I have played more motorcycle racing games than I can count. PC is my favorite platform to play on due to the mods and such others create (usually more tracks) expanding the life of older releases.
Commodore 64 Still Alive and Well
So far there are cityscapes and country scenes to race through providing a bit of variety. While the roadside graphics are good for the power of the platform, the fact that Gansteeth was able to implement hills and valleys is beyond impressive. There are even night/day cycles as you race. I come from the time that those two things were considered nearly impossible, at least if using Mode 7 on the Super Nintendo.
While graphically TT-64 is nowhere near the same level as a Super Nintendo game, it is damn impressive compared to Commodore 64 racing games. Comparing this to a Super Nintendo game would be like comparing Atari 2600 games to Sega Master System or Nintendo Entertainment System releases. Unfair.
Head over to YouTube and show Gansteeth some support. A like, a share, a comment, it all goes a long way in showing developers doing these things for the love of creating that their work is seen and appreciated.
