Adventure games should always be adventures and deliver on this promise, filling the player with thrilling action, an intriguing story, and gameplay that keeps you hooked, figuring out what's happening and why. If you combine this with good optimization, great graphics, and smooth gameplay, then you have a game that's worth spending a few hours on.
I hadn't played a Tomb Raider since the PlayStation 2 title, which is a long time ago, so when I started playing this Tomb Raider, I was impressed by the huge leap and change in the game and in all its aspects in general. Despite the fact that this game isn't new since it came out in 2013, it feels like a modern game; it looks tremendously good at 1080p at full resolution and is incredibly enjoyable. The game also features a multiplayer mode, and some additional survival maps and online co-op content. Although it's currently only playable with friends, I'm sure that at the time it was something to be grateful for, as it could have extended the game's lifespan.
For this game, the artists in charge also decided to make a change to the character, moving quite a distance from the classic Lara Croft we had in the early 2000s. She is much younger, more realistic, and a novice in many ways, without conveying that feeling of a prepared and mature adventurer. Instead, here she is developing, learning, and it's like going to a prequel to the character. Now, this doesn't take her away from having the skills, abilities, and skills that allow her to be fierce, a fighter, and a cold-blooded killer in order to survive the dangers that surround her.
The game's narrative introduces us in a timeless way, first leading us to the central conflict of the character and her companions, and then gradually putting the pieces together in the midst of the adventure. Lara and her companions find themselves on a ship on the high seas, and an imminent disaster begins, where it seems virtually impossible for her or anyone else to survive. Miraculously, she and part of the crew manage to survive, shipwrecked on a seemingly desolate island, but where they will not be alone.
Although Lara manages to elude her companions, she is attacked by someone whose identity we don't know, and later appears in the island's catacombs. A completely terrifying, monstrous, and ritualistic scenario. It seems like a very well-constructed scene of cannibalism and sacrifice. We must escape and get going as quickly as possible. Hanging upside down, Lara sees that fire can be her best ally to escape from this place. And yes, in fact, fire will be an important character during the adventure, as it will allow you to burn objects, illuminate the place, and often warm you on the icy island. So, from the very beginning, this element will be extremely important for survival. Escaping the catacombs will be our main mission, as will understanding where we are and where we are. Obviously, we have no idea where we might be, or where we are. So, we don't know the location, much less the catacombs we're in. So, we'll instinctively discover the path that will lead us to the island itself. Escaping will be a truly enjoyable challenge to overcome, full of action, combat, and the occasional puzzle.
Once you're out of the catacombs and on one of the main sides of the island, the real fight for survival begins. It's then that you'll realize you're in a state of desolation and anguish, with the only thing the character can think of to do but search for his friends. So, our new objective becomes finding those who survived the crash, no matter what.
Here we'll realize that the desolate island is shrouded in mystery, death, and destruction all around it. We'll also realize that we're not the first boat to crash on the island. So our mission is to continue through the ruins and corpses to find signs of survival in what is the wreckage of the accident.
Once we start finding parts of the accident, we will be able to have a radio in our possession that will allow us to begin establishing communication with one of the survivors of the ship, so that will be in a certain way a relief because we will realize that we are not alone, in the same way we will establish what is the first camp of the adventure where we can rest, level up skills, change clothes and future craft items as we unlock the story.
So, gamers, Tomb Raider Game of the Year in its full version offers a tremendous adventure world with a few small advantages from this edition: unlocked skills and some outfits. Something that, well, may be a small advantage, but it isn't really one. The game has incredible gameplay and, well, without a doubt, an intriguing story that keeps us going deeper and deeper, eager to know what's going on. So, if you've played this game, let me know, or would you like to? See you in a next post.
