Backbone es un juego basado puramente en su línea argumental, diálogos y personajes, es una experiencia entretenida y muy bien elaborada, cada vez parece haber menos títulos de los que se pueda decir eso sin tener que hacer concesiones o excepciones, realmente recomiendo que pruebes este juego antes de leer esta reseña porque el prólogo está disponible de manera gratuita en steam, se puede completar en una hora y media o dos horas tranquilamente, créanme cuando digo que no tiene desperdicio alguno, es una obra magnífica de principio a fin y es una manera muy creativa de mostrar lo que tendrá el juego para ofrecer en un futuro, el capítulo uno está previsto para este año, es sin duda uno de los títulos que espero con más ansias para este periodo.
Pongámonos en situación.
Backbone es un juego desarrollado por Raw Fury, el prólogo fue lanzado por primera vez en 2019 para presentar de que se trataba el proyecto, la versión completa del capítulo uno estaba prevista para ser lanzada en 2020 sin embargo ya todos sabemos las complicaciones que presentó aquel nuestro año favorito, el desarrollo se pausó y ahora se encuentra en etapa final, es por ello que ha vuelto a llamar la atención, y de que manera.
Backbone es un juego basado en la mecánica point and click (la más adecuada para este tipo de juego llevado por su guion y narrativa) para investigar y su principal enfoque es la indagación a través del diálogo y la interacción con los demás personajes (npc), jugamos desde la perspectiva de Howard Lotor, un mapache que se dedica a ser investigador privado en una ciudad distópica ambientada en Vancouver, con claras distinciones entre clases sociales, Howard es un ciudadano de menor categoría que sabe moverse y sobrevivir en las calles.
La historia del prólogo se centra en un caso que aparentaba ser sencillo para Howard, la señora Odette se acerca a su despacho para contratar sus servicios de investigador privado bajo la sospecha de que su esposo le es infiel, a lo que Howard decide ir a conseguir información con sus compañeros de trabajo, sin saber que estaba por enterarse de unas movidas muy oscuras que están ocurriendo en la alta sociedad dentro de la ciudad.
Un juego con mucha personalidad.
La ambientación gráfica de este juego está en mayor parte basada en un pixelart excelente y bien acomodado, muy buenas animaciones y estampas de escenarios, basta ver una imagen del juego para saber que se trata de un desarrollo gráfico de calidad.
Es para mi uno de los aspectos más cautivadores del juego, se contrasta a la perfección con la atmósfera grunge y barrio bajera de las calles de la ciudad, hay elementos que le otorgan vida y personalidad a los escenarios, el humo que sale de las alcantarillas, los reflejos de la lluvia en la calle, el neón reflejado en la bruma que impregna las aceras y sin duda la personalidad bien marcada de los personajes que resuenan acorde con la narrativa.
Howard Lotor.
El personaje principal e hilo conductor de la historia del juego, ingenioso y apático como los investigadores privados de los 90's en los que está inspirado, a lo largo de la campaña Howard se encuentra con muchos personajes con los que tiene que interactuar y utilizar para conseguir pistas para seguir investigando, el espectro de opciones de diálogo que se presentan para que escojas al momento de las interacciones es bastante amplio y sorprendentemente no encausan todos de la misma forma.
Una amplia variedad de opciones para conseguir información, aunque todas presenten tintes similares con respecto a la información a adquirir, cada una está imbuida en las distintas personalidades con las que puedes conseguirla, sea de forma más directa, agresiva o pidiéndolo con amabilidad.
La personalidad de Howard está tan bien diferenciada que aunque el juego no presenta actuaciones de voz es fácil imaginar una voz que le quedaría bien a su personaje, dejo a criterio de cada uno la voz que quieran adjudicarle sin embargo para mi sería una voz como la de Bill Pullman, con ciertas semejanzas en algunos de sus papeles.
Tanto es así que las pantallas de carga transcurren mientras se fuma un cigarrillo como buen detective de los 90.
Es realmente agradable a la vista los escenarios y personajes desarrollados con pixelart, efectos y juegos de luces preciosos, sin duda una obra de arte que requirió muchísimo esfuerzo.
El gran finale.
Para continuar con la historia, Howard debe infiltrarse en un club exclusivo de la alta sociedad para conseguir información sobre el esposo de la señora Odette, luego de muchas artimañas y a punta de ser escurridizo (como buen mapache), parece que se acerca al sujeto que está investigando sin embargo y debido al argumento secundario que transcurre en paralelo, descubre a la hija de una señora que le pidió ayuda, Jessie, una joven coneja que se suponía trabajaba como camarera en el club.
Luego de resolver unos cuantos puzzles con cierto nivel de dificultad, Howard se encuentra en una de las salas más alejadas del club,
No se aprecia muy bien, pero basado en las palabras del carnicero que se encontraba en esa sala justo antes de nuestra llegada, sabemos que es Jessie, siendo seccionada para luego ser cocinada y comida.
El señor Green es el esposo de la señora Odette, quien acabamos de descubrir, está apunto de ser llevado a la carnicería, así es, están comiendo personas.
Lo cual nos lleva a una de las mejores escenas animadas en pixelart con una energía poderosa sobre lo que siente Howard por lo que acaba de descubrir.
Cierran los créditos y de vuelta a la pantalla del título, dejándonos con nada más que especulaciones, ¿se tratará de un culto que solo incluye a los miembros de la alta sociedad?, ¿se estará usando una de las nuevas drogas que circulan en la ciudad para acorralar y matar a animales de menor categoría?, ¿Howard tendrá el valor de decirle a la señora Odette lo que está por ocurrirle a su esposo, el señor Green?.
El primer capítulo promete muchísimo para desarrollar esta historia, se tenía previsto para este mes (mayo de 2021) sin embargo se pueden esperar complicaciones con los detalles finales, esperemos poder disfrutar de esta magnífica obra pronto.

Backbone is a game based purely on its plot line, dialogues and characters, it is an entertaining and very well elaborated experience, there seem to be fewer titles than before that can be said without having to make concessions or exceptions, I really recommend that you try this videogame before reading this review because the prologue is available for free on steam, it can be completed in an hour and a half or two hours easily, believe me when I say it has no waste whatsoever, it is a magnificent work from start to finish and it has a very creative way of showing what the game will have to offer in the future, chapter one is scheduled for this year, it is undoubtedly one of the titles that I look forward the most for this period.

Our favorite year, development was paused and is now in the final stage, which is why it has attracted attention again, and in what way.
Backbone is a game based on the point and click mechanics (the most suitable for this type of game carried by its script and narrative) to investigate, and its main focus is inquiry through dialogue and interaction With the other characters (npc), we play from the perspective of Howard Lotor, a raccoon who is dedicated to being a private investigator in a dystopian city set in Vancouver, with clear distinctions between social classes, Howard is a lowe class citizen who knows how to move and survive on the streets.
The story of the prologue focuses on a case that seemed to be simple for Howard, Mrs. Odette approaches his office to hire his services as a private investigator on the suspicion that her husband is unfaithful, to which Howard decides to go get information with his co-workers, not knowing that he was about to find out about some very dark moves that are happening in the high society within the city.
A game with a lot of personality.
The graphic setting of this game is mostly based on an excellent and well arranged pixelart, very good animations and scenery pictures, just look at an image of the game to know that it is a quality graphic development.
It is for me one of the most captivating aspects of the game, it contrasts perfectly with the grunge atmosphere and the lower neighborhood of the city streets, there are elements that give life and personality to the scenarios, the smoke that comes out of the sewers , the reflections of the rain on the street, the neon reflected in the mist that permeates the sidewalks and, without a doubt, the well-marked personality of the characters that resonate in accordance with the narrative.
Howard Lotor.
The main character and thread of the game's story, witty and apathetic like the private investigators of the 90's in which he is inspired, throughout the campaign Howard encounters many characters with whom he has to interact and use to achieve clues for further investigation, the spectrum of dialogue options that are presented for you to choose at the time of interactions is quite wide and surprisingly they do not address all in the same way.
A wide variety of options to obtain information, although they all present similar tints with respect to the information to be acquired, each one is imbued in the different personalities with which you can obtain it, be it in a more direct, aggressive or asking kindly way.
Howard's personality is so well differentiated that although the game does not present voice acting, it is easy to imagine a voice that would suit his character well, I leave the voice that you want to assign to him, however for me it would be a voice like that from Bill Pullman , with certain similarities in some of his roles.
So much so that the loading screens take place while smoking a cigarette like a good 90s detective.
The scenes and characters developed with pixelart, effects and beautiful lighting are really pleasing to the eye, without a doubt a work of art that required a lot of effort.
The great finale.
To continue the story, Howard must infiltrate in an exclusive club of high society to get information about Mrs. Odette's husband, after many tricks and on the verge of being elusive (like a good raccoon) , It seems that he approaches the subject he is investigating however and due to the secondary argument that runs in parallel, he discovers the daughter of a lady who asked him for help, Jessie, a young rabbit who was supposed to work as a waitress at the club.
After solving a few puzzles with a certain level of difficulty, Howard finds himself in one of the furthest rooms of the club,
It is kinda hard to see, but based on the words of the butcher who was in that room just before our arrival, we know that it is Jessie, being sectioned to be cooked and eaten.
Mr. Green is Mrs. Odette's husband, who we just found out, he's about to be taken to the butcher shop, that's right, they're eating people.
Which brings us to one of the best animated pixelart scenes with a powerful energy about how Howard feels about what he just discovered.
The credits close and back to the title screen, leaving us with nothing but speculation, is it a cult that only includes members of high society? Is one of the new drugs circulating in the city being used to lure and kill lower class animals? Will Howard have the courage to tell Mrs. Odette what is about to happen to her husband, Mr. Green?
The first chapter promises a lot to develop this story, it was planned for this month (May 2021) however complications can be expected with the final details, we hope to be able to enjoy this magnificent work soon.
