Super Metroid in my opinion is a very special game, it is a game that I liked from beginning to end and never bored me, it has a spectacular atmosphere, memorable enemies, an excellent soundtrack, a pixel art like the gods and one of the closings that I liked the most on a general level in video games. It is the third game in this saga, and it is precisely this that would trigger that genre that is so widely known today as "Metroidvania", a combination of Metroid and Castlevania, more specifically Symphony of the Night, which would create one of the most popular genres, acclaimed and used in what is the indie sector of video games.
A Start for the Remembrance
Super Metroid has a fast, explosive and very concise start, after the second game of the saga, when Samus tries to kill the Metroid larva and it sees it as its mother figure, they found out that they could investigate this Metroid to understand them more, and they could even have different uses. This is how this game begins, giving a summary of the end of the first and second video games to put you in context of what happens.
Samus receives a signal that the Space Pirates are attacking the space frigate where they are investigating the larva, the Metroid is missing, and it turns out that they stole it. Super Metroid begins with a dramatic scene, its very home screen says so. A gloomy music, a dark environment with corpses, and especially an empty capsule, giving you to understand that something has escaped. It seems that many people do not think of it this way, but Metroid is one of these sagas that with a simple image tells you many things, it is very subtle in what it does, so it basically tells you a story just with the stage, because here we are talking about a game that does not show you dialogues, only at the beginning, and the whole environment and atmosphere are the protagonists of the narrative of this game.
After the Metroid is stolen, Samus escapes from the ship that is about to explode due to the attacks, goes to Zebes, precisely the same planet where the first game was developed, and that is where our protagonist's journey will begin. When you get to Zebes, the only thing you notice is that it is a planet that seems to be uninhabited, and with a completely desolate environment and image, and again I emphasize how good this game is to tell you a story without showing you a single dialogue.
Obviously this planet is not uninhabited, it has unknown enemies and obstacles that will make your life impossible, as well as different environments that seem real to me, reflect the fact that the planet is truly alive.
His Gameplay Influenced the Industry
Talking about the gameplay of this game and the saga itself, Super Metroid is mainly an exploration game, I must emphasize that this game is not linear, it is not going from point A to point B, first of all when you start the adventure they don't even tell you where to go, exploring and remembering yourself you will know over time, but at no time does the game guide you or take you by the hand, and that is one of the most important characteristics when we talk about a game of this type.
Games like Metroid, as they do not have a linear structure, the structure of the map is based on showing you many paths, many of them interconnected, with many secrets, hidden rooms and others. In Metroid many of these rooms will not be accessible at first, because even starting out you will find areas of this type, areas where you will not be able to access unless you have the object or the necessary improvement for it, and these types of objects are You find yourself exploring and advancing in the game, discovering secret areas and generally observing the environment.
I must say that I love this game structure, it is intuitive and encourages you to keep exploring, and the best part is that it never gets tedious. Another thing that I quite like is that the game never forces you to go to a specific area, it always makes it clear that you can go wherever you want whenever you can, there are objects for example that you were not supposed to get at first. , but with sheer skill if you can get them, the game does not have a specific order, and it is something that is appreciated, especially in an industry where most games take you by the hand.
Detail Care
Technically the game is beautiful, it has a lot of detail and the many different environments that it has shine with the pixel art so good that this game has, I think that the environments would not be the same if it did not have the detail that these people put into it. Graphically, it is one of the most impressive games if we speak at the pixel art level, and I must say that it has aged very well despite taking more than 25 years since it was released.
The music accompanies the game very well, I like the melodies that sound in each zone, they are memorable and they do not sound repetitive at any time. With the sound effects, for such an old game, I was quite surprised, it is very well done in that sense.
In short, Super Metroid in my opinion is one of the most important games as such, it has characteristics that many current games trace, it is excellent in many of its sections and it was the one that popularized and standardized the genre as we know it today. What Dark Souls does at this time, Super Metroid did more than 2 decades before, transmitting you and transferring the story only with the environment, and it is something impressive if we stop to think how many years this game is and what good that looks today. I recommend it to anyone, if you give it a chance you will most likely like it, but if I tell you that it is a calmer game, where exploration matters more, it is not a shooter. If what you expect is unbridled action, better forget it, but if instead you like games with many secrets, exploration and an interesting world, it is essential.

Super Metroid a mi parecer es un juego muy especial, es un juego que me gustó de principio a fin y nunca me aburrió, tiene una atmósfera espectacular, enemigos memorables, una excelente banda sonora, un pixel art como los dioses y uno de los cierres que más me han gustado a nivel general en los videojuegos. Es el tercer juego de esta saga, y precisamente es este el que dispararía ese género que tanto se conoce hoy en día como "Metroidvania", una combinación de Metroid y Castlevania, más específicamente Symphony of the Night, que crearían uno de los géneros más aclamados y utilizados en lo que es el sector indie de los videojuegos.
Un Comienzo para el Recuerdo
Super Metroid tiene un inicio rápido, explosivo y muy conciso, luego del segundo juego de la saga, cuando Samus intenta matar a la larva de Metroid y esta la ve como su figura materna, se enteraron de que podían investigar a este Metroid para comprenderlos más, y hasta podrían tener distintos usos. Es así como comienza este juego, dando un resumen del final del primer y el segundo videojuego para ponerte en contexto de lo que sucede.
Samus recibe una señal de que los Piratas Espaciales están atacando la fragata espacial donde están investigando la larva, el Metroid no está, y resulta que lo robaron. Super Metroid inicia con una escena dramática, su misma pantalla de inicio lo dice. Una música tétrica, un ambiente oscuro con cadáveres, y en especial, una cápsula vacía, dándote a entender que algo se ha escapado. Parece que mucha gente no lo piensa de esta manera, pero Metroid es una de estas sagas que con una simple imagen te dice muchas cosas, es muy sútil en lo que hace, por lo que basicamente te cuenta una historia nada más con el escenario, porque aquí estamos hablando de un juego que no te muestra diálogos, solo al principio, y todo el ambiente y la atmósfera son los protagonistas de la narrativa de este juego.
Luego de que roban al Metroid, Samus escapa de la nave que está a punto de explotar por los ataques, se dirige a Zebes, precisamente el mismo planeta donde se desarrolló el primer juego, y es ahí donde iniciará la travesía de nuestra protagonista. Cuando llegas a Zebes lo único que notas es que es planeta que parece no estar habitado, y con un ambiente y una imagen completamente desoladores, y nuevamente hago hincapié en lo bueno que es este juego para contarte una historia sin mostrarte ni un solo dialogo.
Evidentemente este planeta no está deshabitado, tiene enemigos desconocidos y obstáculos que te harán la vida imposible, así como distintos ambientes que a mí parecer realzan el hecho de que el planeta está verdaderamente vivo.
Su Gameplay Influyó en la Industria
Hablando ya de la jugabilidad de este juego y de la saga en sí, Super Metroid es un juego principalmente de exploración, debo de recalcar que este juego no es lineal, no es ir de un punto A a un punto B, en primer lugar cuando comienzas la aventura ni siquiera te dicen a donde ir, tu mismo explorando y recordando lo sabrás con el tiempo, pero en ningún momento el juego te guía ni te toma de la mano, y esa es una de las características más importantes cuando hablamos de un juego de este tipo.
Los juegos como Metroid, como no tienen una estructura lineal, la estructura del mapa se basa en mostrarte muchos caminos, muchos de ellos interconectados, con muchos secretos, habitaciones ocultas y demás. En Metroid muchas de estas habitaciones no serán accesibles en un principio, porque incluso comenzando te encontrarás con zonas de este tipo, zonas donde no podrás acceder a no ser que tengas un el objeto o la mejora necesaria para ello, y este tipo de objetos los encuentras explorando y avanzando en el juego, descubriendo zonas secretas y en general observando el ambiente.
Debo de decir que esta estructura de juego me encanta, es intuitiva y te incita a seguir explorando, y lo mejor es que nunca se hace tedioso. Otra cosa que me gusta bastante es que el juego en ningún momento te obliga a ir a una zona concreta, siempre te deja en claro que puedes ir donde quieras siempre que puedas, hay objetos por ejemplo que se supone que en un principio no debías conseguir, pero que con pura habilidad si que puedes conseguirlos, el juego no tiene un orden específico, y es algo que se agradece, y más en una industria donde la mayoría de los juegos te llevan de la mano.
Cuidado al Detalle
Técnicamente el juego es precioso, tiene mucho detalle y los numerosos ambientes tan distintos que tiene brillan con el pixel art tan bueno que tiene este juego, pienso que lo de los ambientes no sería lo mismo si no tuviera el detalle que le metió esta gente. Gráficamente es de los juegos más impresionantes si a nivel de pixel art hablamos, y debo decir que ha envejecido muy bien a pesar de llevar más como 25 años desde que fue lanzado al mercado.
La música acompaña muy bien al juego, me gustan las melodías que suenan en cada zona, son memorables y no suenan repetitivas en ningún momento. Con los efectos de sonido, para ser un juego tan viejo, me sorprendió bastante, está muy bien hecho en ese sentido.
En definitiva, Super Metroid a mi parecer es uno de los juegos más importantes como tal, tiene características que muchos juegos actuales calcan, es excelente en muchos de sus apartados y fue el que popularizó y estandarizó el género como lo conocemos hoy. Lo que Dark Souls hace en esta época, Super Metroid lo hizo más de 2 décadas antes, lo de transmitirte y trasladar la historia solo con el ambiente, y es algo impresionante si nos paramos a pensar la cantidad de años que este juego tiene y lo bien que se ve hoy en día. Yo lo recomiendo a cualquiera, si le das una oportunidad lo más probable es que te guste, pero si te digo que es un juego más calmado, donde importa más la exploración, no es un shooter. Si lo que esperas es acción desenfrenada, mejor olvídalo, pero si en cambio te gustan los juegos con muchos secretos, exploración y con un mundo interesante, es imprescindible.
