Toraja Coffee From Toarco, The Paradox of Excellence

When something or someone is already known for its greatness, sometimes it becomes expected of them that they would do just fine and there's no "spark" anymore. It becomes something usual and expected that whatever they produce would be great.

Sometimes that’s how I feel with Toraja Coffee. Among many variants’ coffee in the world, Toraja is already known for its excellence. You can never go wrong with it and whatever is the company is roasting the beans; they are just great. To put it simply, greatness is just the baseline of this coffee.

During the holiday, I got a 100gr of Toraja Coffee from a friend of mine. This coffee is meant to be imported and under the license of a Japanese company. For all I know, Japan takes their coffee matter seriously. Considering that way, this coffee would some of the best top tier that this area produces.

Unfortunately, when I was brewing this coffee, it felt just the usual regular coffee. It was something expected from Toraja coffee, quite an excellent cup. Typically, I would be so excited but because I know that this coffee is great, somehow it was expected. That removes the joy drinking it and exploring it.

This is why I rarely get Toraja as I know that they're great. I want to explore something more, an underdog of its kind. Ever now and then, I would find something the underdog of the coffee world and that sparks joy.

I know, phin filter is the worst choice for this grind but that's all the tools I have currently. Even then, it's Toraja Coffee, it doesn't matter how you brew it, they're still going to be a crisp, clean and delicious cup of coffee.
