It's just over 20°C in daytime here in east part of Germany. Some of the tomato leaves are looking a little tired, probably due to the weather but the forecast says summer will return next weekend — I’m hopeful!
Micro Balcony Update
The rain has been doing most of the watering, so I’ve only needed to give a little attention to the smaller pots or the ones placed inside the balcony when I felt like it. Thanks to the cooler weather, nothing has completely dried out — it's been a low-maintenance week like in autumn.
I spent this week mostly at home, which naturally led to a lot of quiet calm balcony time. Every morning I’d do yoga, make a cup of coffee, step out onto the balcony, observe the plants, and tend to them with coffee in hand. One of my small tasks was gathering strawberry runners and lightly pinning them onto soil-filled pots. If they root successfully, I’ll move them to the garden.
Speaking of strawberries, the late-bearing variety has started to bloom. One morning, as I sat on the balcony, a flower seemed to greet me with a little “Good morning,” and I had to snap a photo. This plant actually kept fruiting until December last year! If you're a strawberry lover, I highly recommend planting both early and late varieties — it really stretches out the harvest season.
I’ve been harvesting tomatoes daily — in addition to the balcony tomato ‘Lambada’ I’ve been picking until now, I got the first yellow ‘India Moon’ this week. Another one called ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy’ should be ready for harvest next week. My daughter especially looks forward it because of it's fun sounding name and red-yellow striped out look.
This week my daughter came back from a trip with a succulent from a community garden she visited with grandma. I had to laugh — I also tend to bring plants home from my travels. There was a perfect spot in a container arrangement I made last fall, so we planted it there together. My daughter also said, “I want to grow them and bring some to the garden.” Definitely she is my child 😂
The “Klein” but Big Garden
I visited the garden three times this week — once on my own, and twice with my daughter — which might be a new record.
The plums and berries are still producing well, and the green apples turned out great too. I baked a simple apple cakes, and it was delicious.
The tomatoes in the garden are also starting to ripen. I think this one is ‘Black Beauty’. I’m looking forward to tasting those deeply flavorful black tomatoes with a kind of umami taste.
Here’s an overview of the current growing space in the garden. The zucchini are going wild. I was glad to see the yellow zucchini plant, which had been dropping its fruit, is now developing decent-sized ones. I hope I can harvest some next week.
Oh, and I recently received the garden’s appraisal report. Turns out, the little old building on the right in the above photo is 50 years old! I was surprised that it's older than me. That gave me a sense of awe and a stronger desire to clean it up and take good care of it ☺️ By the way, its appraised value? €15! Looks like depreciation was properly calculated.
To-Do for Next Week
It looks like summer heat will return next weekend, but until then, we’re in for more calm, cool weather. I plan to keep caring for the plants and, at some point, bring the vacuum cleaner to the garden and start cleaning out the little hut.
That's it for this week. Next month, there's a plant fair in Berlin that I absolutely love, but hotel prices are high due to overlapping events… Should I just go for the day, or splurge and stay overnight? Please upvote my garden journal to cheer me on! Just kidding 😁

私が住んでいるドイツ東部では最高気温が20度ちょっとの涼しい日が続いています。トマトの葉っぱの色が少し元気がない感じなのが気になりますが、来週末にまた夏が戻ってくるようなので期待しています。
マイクロバルコニーと家の中の植物の様子
水やりをほとんど雨がやってくれたので、小さい鉢や、バルコニーの内側に置いているものにちょぼっと気が向いた時に水をやる程度でした。涼しいので、からっからになることもなく、楽をさせてもらっています。
今週は家でゆっくり過ごす一週間で、自然とバルコニー時間もたくさんとれてじんわり幸せでした。毎朝ヨガをして、コーヒーをいれてバルコニーに出て、植物を眺めて、コーヒー片手に植物が必要としているかもというお世話をしていました。いちごのランナーを集めて、土を入れた鉢の上に軽くとめてあげる作業もそのひとつです。うまく増やして、庭に移植しようと思っています。
いちごといえば、遅く実がなる種類のいちごの花が着き始めました。朝バルコニーに座ったら、いちごの花が一輪「おはよう」と言っているようだったので、思わず写真に収めました。この株は去年12月まで実をつけていた株なんですよね。いちごは早生と晩生を混ぜて植えておくとかなり長い間収穫できるので、いちご好きにはおすすめです。
バルコニーでは日々ころころとトマトがとれていて、これまでとれていたLambadaというバルコニートマトに加えて、India Moonという黄色いトマトがとれました。もう一種類、Fuzzy Wuzzyという楽しい名前のトマトも来週には収穫が始まりそうです。
今週は子供が旅から戻ってきて、おばあちゃんと訪れたコミュニティガーデンから多肉植物を持って帰ってきました。私も旅先から植物を持ち帰ることがあるので、笑ってしまいました。去年秋冬に作った寄せ植えにスペースがあったので一緒に植えました。一株は花芽が伸びていて、どんな花が咲くのか楽しみです。子供は「増やして庭に持っていきたい」とのことで、これまたうちの子 😂
"Klein"だけれど大きい庭の様子
今週は、一人で一度、夏休み中の子供と二度庭を訪れ、一週間の最多記録だったのではないかと思います。庭ではすももやベリーが引き続き取れていて、青りんごもとってみたらいい感じで、大好きなりんごのケーキがおいしく焼けました。
庭のトマトも色づき始めています。この株は確か・・・ブラックビューティーだと思います。旨味の強い黒いトマトを食べるのが楽しみです。
庭の栽培スペースの全体像は現在こんな感じで、ズッキーニが全開です。実を落としていた黄色いズッキーの株にも大きめの実がつき始めていて、来週こそは収穫ができるといいな。
そうそう、先日庭の評価書をもらったら、右端に写っている古屋は築50年ということがわかりました。私よりお姉さん！なんとも感慨深く、きれいにしたいという思いが強まりました ☺️ ちなみに評価額は15ユーロ！きちんと減価償却がされているようです。
来週のTODO
来週は週末に暑さが戻るようですが、それまでは今週のようなお天気でのんびり過ごせそうです。植物の見守りとお世話、あと、一度掃除機を持って庭に行って、小屋の掃除を始めようと思っています。
そんなこんなの今週のガーデニングジャーナルでした。来月は大好きなベルリンの植木市があるのですが、大きなイベントが重なってホテルが高い・・・日帰りで行くか、奮発して泊まりで行くか迷っています。みなさん、いっぱいupvoteして応援してください！なんて 😁
