Hello, hivers and garden lovers!
A couple of days ago, I decided to haul some of my shredded leaf mulch up to the community garden for one of my garden beds. I covered the other garden beds last fall, but I wasn't able to finish covering one of the beds before it started snowing.
I started the process by filling a couple of my big plastic totes with mulch from the pile. It's the easiest way to carry the mulch up to the community garden.
The easiest way to move the full totes to the back garden gate is with my railroad flatcar.
From there, I loaded the totes into the back of my old Explorer and hauled them up to the garden. I took my wheelbarrow with me to move the totes from the vehicle to the garden plot. My old back doesn't like carrying heavy totes anymore...
After dumping the totes onto the garden, I got distracted by the dead corn stalks in the other end of this double plot. (I'm easily distracted by garden chores) I was curious to see if I could pull out the corn stalks yet, so I tried a few. That led to clearing out all the corn stalks.
After all that work, I finally got back to spreading out the compost with the rake.
I still need at least 1 more tote full of compost to finish this garden plot. That's going to have to wait a few days because the weather changed to rain and colder. I'm sure there's more nice days coming soon, so I'll get back the mulching then.
