Although it may seem like a simple flower, besides being beautiful, this has a deeper connotation. 🧐 A few months ago, we began building a bio filter. But what the heck is a bio filter? Well, it's a graywater drainage system. Water from the sink, shower, and utility sink will be discharged into it. This graywater will first pass through a grease trap system (still to be built). It will have three compartments where the grease can be separated. Then it moves on to the next system of three 250-liter ponds. The bottom is made of crushed clay blocks, then bluestone, very typical in the use of concrete constructions, and finally a layer of sand and fine stones. Each of these ponds is perfectly suitable for planting aquatic plants or perhaps a banana tree. The plants purify the water. Then, this water will overflow until it exits through another pipe, which empties into a shallow body of water, deep enough to support fish and complete the purification process. At this point, the water flows into a storage system using tanks or wetlands to irrigate our agroforest, which, by the way, I'm starting to weed to plant our first edible trees.
Hence the beauty of this lily flower, which has been with us for quite some time. It was in a small container with water and stones. Today, it's developing a more suitable environment for its development.
This has resulted in the appearance of some amphibians, which is quite interesting because a mini ecosystem is being created thanks to this device that will help us improve our water purification system.
Reusing water is vital for us because, with a large number of trees, we need to have accumulated water to be able to constantly irrigate the crops, especially during the dry season. The trees will appreciate it.
These contributions are part of the philosophy of our @vidaverdeve project, which seeks to have a healthier and more environmentally friendly lifestyle.
I'm not sure this post is clear. It's like a reflection on how beautiful the flower is, as well as how the biofilter construction project has been, in addition to everything that has happened since it was halfway completed. We're still in the bathroom construction phase. It will be finished soon, and we'll be able to add an additional one at the opposite end of our container home.
Taking this opportunity, I'm going to show you a little bit about how my garden is doing! The rain has been very good for it. The lettuces are huge, as are the first peppers, and they're flowering, just like the tomatoes. The latter aren't in season and tend to die due to the heavy rains. Perhaps building a greenhouse to have tomatoes year-round wouldn't be a bad idea. The rest of the time, I've spent very little time maintaining the garden; I've let everything grow, but it's almost time to prune some plants to keep them sized so everything fits in the garden. Last year, we left some eggplant plants, and since they couldn't grow to huge sizes, this meant nothing else grew. We still made a lot of meals with the eggplants, so nothing was lost.
There are other crops outside the garden, such as papaya, yucca, corn, black beans, passion fruit, ocumo, celery, pumpkin, and cucumber, that are growing slowly. We hope this year will bring us good harvests.
