Now that it is winter in Australia, it is sort of a good time to try and do some grass and weed clearing... Things aren't popping up within a few hours, and more importantly, the hard rocky clay soil is soft from the rain and the morning frost and dew... on the downside, it is bloody freezing. Still... whacking tools into the earth means that they sink in to the soft soil, instead of rebounding with a hard jar against my arm!

So, I have two clearing projects for myself... things that I want to try and get down before the spring season gets here. This front area needs to be weeded and cleared so that I can finish the wood mulching that was started a couple of years ago. It had paused due to the lack of wood mulch... but we did have a large tree taken down recently, and there is huge pile of wood mulch that needs to be diminished and spread out. This would be a perfect place for it... and it would mean that I wouldn't be wasting so much time in the spring and summer cutting it all back every other week.

... and I probably should finish this last bit of weed matting as well... I had done it earlier with the river rocks only, but the weeds and grass would just grow straight through! So, all the rocks to the left need to be lifted up and moved... a proper weed mat put down, and then the rocks returned. It was a last year project... and most of it has done, but it stalled as other projects took precedence. But it does need to be finished. If nothing else, to tick it off the list and not have it hanging there...

... and the previous week, I had cleared out a new little 10 square metre patch of ground for the second tranche of roll on grass.

I was working in Sydney most of the other week, and I completely forgot to order the grass rolls for the return, and so, I had to delay that... so, pick up and lay down grass in the morning, then return back to Sydney in the afternoon to play a concert in the evening! Oooopss... but self-inflicted problems. If I had remembered to have them ready to pick up on the day that I had originally planned to, then it wouldn't have been such a hectic turn around.

... and the new rolls are now done. They are more dormant than the other rolls that I had put in... so, there is a definitely a browner colour to them! Ah well, I figure all of that will come good in the growing season! Either that... or it is so dormant that it is actually dead!

I'm getting a lot faster at rolling them out though! Either that or just a little less careful!
