The Floods
So we knew for a few days that we were due a big storm. As that storm got closer the implications became more and more clear. Australia is prone to massive storms where only those that live in tropical areas can possibly understand the volume of water that pours from the sky. We know this.
We know these things are coming for us.
while we were fairly confident that we would be high and dry (unless the roof caved in or a landslide happened or (worst case) that Wivenhoe the mega dam broke and released 10 years of rainfall into out streets... we would be safe enough.
I don't have photos of the suburb sumburging floods with water over house roofs as i did as i was told and STAYED AT HOME.
sorry - Not sorry
Gardening
well obviously no real gardening has been done at all. unhappily the new garden beds were not it.. and we are trying to keep weeds at bay... the beautiful heat and rain will make them bloom even faster. Along with the nasty mosquitos...
However i DID HAVE TO DO SOME gardening in the rain... mostly digging up drainage ditches to take water away from the shed, It was pooling quite dangerously in the foundations.
above is the little river i built to take the water away from the shed. Might seem small but the volume falling from the sky was backing the shed dangerously.
it worked.
For those Following along.. this is the area that flooded and where we are up to
These photos are from the week BEFORE THE FLOOD so there is no mud. They are now very very dirty
You can see one garden bed is in... and we have ordered the material for the other 3. Unhappily the foundations for the water tank there appear to have been damaged further so we will need to fit that.
That being said...
at least i didn't ahve to water the veges in several days
I mean all that water ... i did need to give them a nutrient top up as all would have been washed out for sure...
The Stream next to the house
the water was meters high as it gushed through here... happily it is all down in a ditch and didn't get us!
2011 Floods
we were new to the area and rented in a place that we NOW know floods.
WE MOVED thank goodness because these places all flooded again this year. 2022 and it happened all over again.
Anyway folks... when all the fuss dies down and we have access to food and things... we will be getting back into the garden build. Just a little bit of a bump in the road.
we have been very lucky really ...
thanks for reading folks.
