July in my house is one of the favourite months for all my family and especially for me because it is time to abandon the tasteless tomatoes that you buy in the supermarket and it is time to enjoy the tomatoes grown in the small family garden.
In my small garden this year we have grown two different varieties of tomatoes:
Pear tomato
This type of tomato is named after the peculiarity of having a more elongated appearance.
In total we have planted twelve plants of this type of tomato at home and the main objective is to use it to make homemade tomato sauce as it is a very fleshy and sweet tomato.
Giant tomato
We have planted a total of twelve plants of this type of tomato as in the previous case.
Thanks to my uncle Rubén, who makes seedlings in spring, we have planted this type of tomato, as in May he gave us a box of tomato plants from his seedbed.
However, although the fruits are large, we expected them to be bigger, but I think I am partly to blame for having added a lot of banana peels to the soil, which has meant that almost 100% of the flowers have been pollinated thanks to the contribution of potassium.
Raf tomato
We have planted twenty-four plants of this type of tomato because it is the favourite tomato for summer salads in our house and also for our closest relatives, to whom we give several kilos throughout the summer.
As you can see, these tomato plants have an enviable appearance due to the large number of tomatoes they have.
In order to help the plant support the weight of the bunches of tomatoes, we have even chosen to tie the bunches to the stakes we have for each plant to prevent the bunches of tomatoes from breaking and damaging the plant.
As material for tying the bunches I use strips of cloth prepared from an old T-shirt. This way we do not damage the bunches or the plant as it is a material that does not tear the plant.
At the same time, we are optimistic about the summer from the point of view of the plantation as we see new flowers sprouting every day.
Also a good sign from the point of view of having a good production is to see that many of the flowers are being pollinated. For those who are familiar, it is the flowers that look like they are wilting, but have a small tomato bulb on the way.
And we even see already small tomatoes that in a couple of weeks, if the good weather continues, will be used for making salads and sauces.

So far we have harvested three tomatoes
First tomato salad
And the result is a tasty salad with onion, olive oil and a little vinegar.
