A few years ago, I ate a cake at a friend's house that I was delighted with. I discovered that it was made with red currants. While we were drinking coffee and eating cake, he offered me currant and blueberry seedlings.I started out of pure curiosity. And I've been growing them for several years. My dear friends from Hive, I can tell you that they have become a favorite part of my garden.I took some seedlings and planted them along the fence. My seedlings have progressed nicely and I am already picking fruits. and believe me, I'm impatiently waiting for the berries to ripen. The fruit is very tasty and medicinal.
I like blackcurrant the most, its smell is stronger, how would I describe it when I eat blackcurrant it is like it cures all diseases, it gives me that feeling. We make juices and homemade jams from blackcurrants. Some people also make juice from redcurrants, but I don't like it, redcurrants are the best for making cakes or homemade and fresh desserts. My wife freezes redcurrants, then puts them in a blender and adds sweet cream and makes wonderful sugar-free ice cream.
Growing currants is not demanding. I water them regularly, prune the branches and plant them again and feed them. I avoid chemicals, so I keep them as natural as possible, which I'm really proud of.
I like blueberries the most. They are also the most healing. I wouldn't want to write what they all contain, you can google it yourself. Many years ago I went to the mountain with my family and picked wild blueberries. They are small but very sweet and tasty. I can sit down and eat the whole bucket I picked. There were a lot of blueberries, so we made juice without a drop of water. I have never drunk such a delicious and thick juice. Today they are there, but in smaller numbers.Now I grow these domestic ones, they are not bad, but they don't have the taste that wild mountain ones have. Blueberries are a little more difficult to maintain because they require peat. I know this very well and I go to the lake, I get peat, there is a lot of it, and then I plant them there. They look for acidic soils.It took me three years for the seedlings to start growing. I thought nothing would come of them, but they surprised me. We make juices and jams from them, using the whole fruit. We dry them in the sun and make tea. I dried them in my car one year. Believe me, it's the best drying place haha. Place them on the seat and open the windows and they dry best there. If you have an expensive car, don't.
